Half Full or Half Empty is not the Right Question – Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

Excerpt: When I drink from the ‘Cup of my Life’; What I truly experience from my life, the reality of my condition is more important than my attitude towards existence. The man has no hope to find happiness until and unless he renounces all desires including the desire to find happiness. The man has no choice other than that of living in the moment without concern for either pessimism or optimism. The attitude of dispassion automatically excludes both pessimism and optimism.

HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY? IS THAT REALLY IMPORTANT?

I drank from that cup. Now, the cup could be described as half full or half empty. Is that really important? The cup that I drink from gives me pain and I experience suffering. What would be the right question if I have to drink from that cup? What I truly experience from my life, the reality of my condition is more important than my attitude towards my existence. The issue is not about optimism or pessimism. I need to focus on knowing the reality and I need to face the reality about what I experience when I drink from that Cup of my Life.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THIS CUP TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM ME ?

I would answer this question from a reading from The New Testament of The Holy Bible. I would like to quote verses 36 to 44, chapter 26, The Gospel According to Matthew.

36. Then Jesus came with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane and said to them, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”

37. And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.

38. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

39. He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless not as I will, but as You will.”

40. Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?

41.”Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42. Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”

43. And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

44. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Jesus had prayed three times, saying the same words. It was not possible for the cup to pass away and Jesus had to drink from the cup.

At age 29, Prince Siddhartha realized that humans are subject to old age, sickness, disability and death. He became aware of the suffering implicit in human existence. Buddha described the nature of reality and Dharma (“true law”) as the Four Noble Truths (1) life is fundamentally disappointment and suffering; (2) suffering is a result of one’s desires for pleasure, power, and continued existence; (3) to stop disappointment and suffering one must stop desiring and (4) the way to stop desiring and thus suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path- right views, intention, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.

From the hymns popularly known as Bhaja Govindam, while I drink from the Cup of my Life, I will keep contemplate on the concept of dispassion:

“KASYA SUKHAM NA KAROTI VIRAGAH”

suramandira-taru-mūla-nivāsaḥ
śayyā bhūtalamajinaṃ vāsaḥ ।
sarva-parigraha-bhōgatyāgaḥ
kasya sukhaṃ na karōti virāgaḥ ॥ 19 ॥

Living in temples or at the foot of trees, sleeping on the ground, wearing deer-skin, renouncing all possessions and their enjoyment – to whom will not dispassion bring happiness?

The verse 19 in Shankaracharya’s Bhaja Govindam questions, “Kasya sukham na karoti viragah?”, which means, “What pleasure cannot be given by dispassion?” It gives all the pleasures because you are so totally living in the moment.

The man has no hope to find happiness until and unless he renounces all desires including the desire to find happiness. The man has no choice other than that of living in the moment without concern for either pessimism or optimism. The attitude of dispassion automatically excludes both pessimism and optimism.

The name ” Rudra ” is one of the earliest names known to humanity. According to legend, the Vedic God Rudra acquired His name from His Creator Brahma. As per the story, a boy was seen ‘crying’ and ‘wandering’. The father asked the boy the reason for his ‘howling’. The boy answered that he was ‘weeping’ for he was not given a name. So, the father created a name by bringing together two Sanskrit words which mean ‘crying’ and ‘wandering’. Thus the name Ru+dra was born. This legend is an example of our emotional dependence upon the need for names. The major Deities such as VISHNU and SHIVA that Indians worship are known by thousands of names and remembering those names is deemed as an act of devoted worship. I am born on a Friday night, at 4:30 A.M or the early morning hours of Saturday as the day begins at Sunrise. My grandfather’s residence on Kutchery Road is located at a short distance from Santhome Cathedral on the East, and Kapaleeswarar Temple on the West.

The Corporation of Chennai, Public Health Department entered my birth in the Birth Register and issued a certificate which records my gender, the date and time of my birth, the place of my birth, the names of my father and mother, the registration number and it does not show my name as my parents did not give me a name while reporting my birth. Much later, while living in the United States, I contacted the City Corporation requesting the City Public Health Officer to add my name to my own birth record and my request was not granted for the City requires the signatures of two witnesses.

Dr. Bhasker Reddy, Principal conducted this interview along with a team of Army Medical Corps Medical Officers.

In 1965, I joined Kurnool Medical College after I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad. At Kurnool, a batch of B.Sc., degree students were directly admitted into the second year of the medical education program that awards the M.B.B.S degree. Professor Rama Murthy of the Anatomy Department was very fond of knowing and recognizing each of his students by their personal names. On the first day of our Anatomy class, the attendance register was not ready and Professor Rama Murthy decided to call out names from the list of selected candidates. He very solemnly announced to the class that the roll call begins with a very angry and fiery name. We were intently listening to know what that name could be. Apparently, the list of selected students was prepared according to merit and my name was placed at the top of the list. He called my name and expressed his sense of disbelief. He asked me to verify my name and told the class that it was the first time in his life that he encountered a person with the personal name of Rudra Narasimham. His statement appears to be right and I have not met any other person who may have the same name. It is one of its own kind and is unique and special and these two names were put together to establish me as a Whole Person.

The name Rudra, the first part of my first name is related to Lord Shiva who is recognized as the God of Learning. Shiva is like Socrates. Socrates of 5th century B.C. is claimed to be the father of western thought. He implores people to “know thy self.” Socrates states that the ‘unexamined life is not worth living’. Shiva guides me to reflect upon life. Shiva encourages introspection, reflecting upon your own mind and thoughts. Shiva defines that the purpose of learning is to acquire the ability to think for oneself.

The name Narasimham represents to me a Whole Person who defends my right to choose the Name for my worship. Names of persons, places and the legends form a part of Cultural Legacy of our Land and define the Indian Identity described by the Name Bharat.

My Devotion to Duty is purely reflected in my Devotion to Serve my Comrades.

Excerpt: I love the Service Award I earned at Doom Dooma without using any Service Weapon. I love Doom Dooma for the opportunity it gave to me to demonstrate my commitment to serve the men who serve our country without any concern for my personal safety.

SAINYA SEVA MEDAL

The Government of India awards Sainya Seva Medal to Service Personnel serving in Indian Armed Forces in recognition of ‘non-operational’ services under conditions of special hardship and severe climate. The bar or clasp shows the words ” NEFA ” in Hindi. To qualify for this award, an aggregate of one- year service in the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) is required. The Medal shows an image of Nanda Devi Himalayan mountain peak with a bamboo stand in the foreground.

REMEMBERING A WAR:THE 1962 INDIA-CHINA WAR: This is a photo image taken in 1972, ten years after the 1962 War, while I had proudly served the Nation in North East Frontier Agency. There was no schism or division among the Officers Corps. The Men and the Officers were totally united and were fully motivated to fight the Enemy and we had patrolled the border along the McMahon Line and went beyond the border for Operational reasons. There was no Fear and we were Prepared for the Challenge.

I am proud of my military service in North East Frontier Agency (renamed Arunachal Pradesh) for several reasons. These are;

**Special Frontier Force – Sainya Seva Medal – Service Award without Service Weapon**

In 1962, Communist China’s War of Aggression across Himalayan Frontier motivated me to Resist, to Oppose and to Fight against Red China’s military threat posed from Occupied Tibet. 54 Years after the 1962 War, India is unwilling to part with her territory. India lost control of her territory in the Ladakh region as Tibet still remains under Chinese occupation.

REMEMBERING THE 1962 INDIA – CHINA WAR: The McMahon Line in India’s North East Frontier Agency or the State of Arunachal Pradesh. The Top Secret of 1962 War is the number of Chinese soldiers that were killed and injured during their military attack. Communist China must take courage and admit the true numbers. This War was not a total loss. India learned its lesson. We had a spectacular Military Victory in 1971 during our Bangladesh Liberation War.

Fortunately, in the North-East Himalayan Sector, India retains control over territory which we initially lost in the 1962 War. In 1972, I was very glad to serve in this area for one complete year and I could personally witness the fact that India is fully prepared to fight against Red China one more time. We are willing to do our best to keep ‘NEFA’ (Arunachal Pradesh) under our control whatever may be the Chinese threats protests, and claims to territory she calls “Southern Tibet.” China, apart from the illegal military occupation of Tibet, claims Indian territory publishing maps showing international borders. In recent years, China refused to issue a visa to an Officer of the Indian Administrative Service who had earlier served in this region.

The tensions still exist and I am glad for we are better prepared now and if war is inevitable, we welcome that challenge. To serve in NEFA, I was stationed at Doom Dooma, Tinsukia District, Assam. When I first arrived in Doom Dooma to join my Unit, the first thing that I was told by my Unit Adjutant was, ” Rudra, if you need a copy of your most recent photo, ask the Chinese Intelligence, and they could provide you one.” The Chinese Intelligence operatives or spies keep tabs on each Officer who is entering this area while keeping a close watch on our movements.

To my utter surprise, my Indian Army Picture ID Card stolen during 1972 resurfaces in the Indian Movie titled TE3N. Doomsayer of Doom Dooma earns Sainya Seva Medal – Service Award Without Service Weapon.

We are neither threatened nor intimidated by this kind of Chinese surveillance. We want to assure China that we will not be deterred by their superior Intelligence capabilities.

I arrived in Doom Dooma without my Service Weapon issued by Indian Army as I am expected to participate in operations not known to Indian Army.

My Unit in Doom Dooma is fully armed and equipped by the United States. While I arrived in Doom Dooma, US President Richard M. Nixon arrived in Peking seeking Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong’s hand in friendship.

**Special Frontier Force – Sainya Seva Medal – Service Award without Service Weapon. Richard Nixon Visits China. The Last Week of February 1972 My Life Doomed.**

I was not amused. I had no choice, no alternative for providing Military Service using the US Infantry Weapon for my personal protection. At Doom Dooma, I am predestined to oppose Red China without access to any Service Weapon. I moved around in NEFA performing military tasks sanctioned by my Unit without carrying any Military Weapon.

Indian Army’s Commitment to its Men:

In the Indian Army, we take pride in looking after our men and very often we stretch ourselves to do our best to safeguard the welfare of our men even under the most difficult circumstances. And we maintain this attitude while extending help to others who may not be members of our Service.

I remember my visit to a Forward Company location when a Sub-Inspector of Police came to me asking for medical attention. He belonged to the Central Reserve Protection Force and was dispatched to this difficult area without any prior health screening. I will not be surprised if the same thing is happening today. We deploy police personnel to work in remote areas and we do not care and value their services. This Police Officer was not medically fit to serve in this area and no attempt was made to ascertain his physical fitness to perform the task for which he was sent. Fortunately, he survived the long trek and the very difficult and physically challenging climb to reach the Village where I am camping. The Village has a Government Clinic and as there was no Doctor posted at the Clinic, I was voluntarily providing services to all civilians residing in that area.

I examined him and found his blood pressure to be very high and he was at great risk of suffering from a stroke which could be fatal or cause paralysis. Apparently, he had undiagnosed high blood pressure for a long time and I could also find evidence that his kidneys were already damaged. To bring his blood pressure under control, he needed immediate hospital treatment and required emergency medical evacuation.

His Police Department never cared to inquire about his well-being before giving him the posting order. Whereas in the Armed Forces, we routinely interview the men and get them medically examined before they are sent to difficult areas.

I prepared a note about his medical condition and the Signal Company Operators immediately dispatched this message. Within minutes, my request for Emergency Medical Evacuation was approved. Doom Dooma Air Force Station was asked to send a helicopter. After a short while, I received a call from the helicopter pilot who spoke to me on his radio and informed me that he was sitting in his helicopter and was ready to take off as soon as the weather permits. That was a particularly, rainy and cloudy day with very poor visibility and the mission was really challenging. The pilot had assured me that he would fly in spite of all odds and would pick up my patient. The control tower was closely monitoring the clouds and they were waiting for a window of opportunity to make this trip while the cloud system moves through the mountain valley. He had asked me to keep the patient ready at the helipad and that he would not be able to spend even an extra minute on the ground.

**Special Frontier Force – Sainya Seva Medal – Service Award without Service Weapon. Mi- 4 Helicopter provided airlift service for our operations in NEFA (Arunachal Pradesh)**

Instantly, the whole scenario at my Company location got transformed. The day started on a very dull note. It was raining and there was dense fog. Suddenly, everybody got busy. As per standing orders, armed men were sent to secure our landing strip, weather signs were posted, the helipad was marked with fresh paint. Equipment for Fire-Fighting and Smoke Signaling were positioned on the ground. We erected a small shelter for the patient to rest while awaiting evacuation. A Sub-Inspector of Police suddenly became the focus of attention literally transforming him into a ‘VIP’ or Very Important Person. He was worried about his senior officers who dispatched him to this station. He was concerned that he might offend them by leaving his duty station without their prior permission. I reassured him and told him that the Indian Army would accept total responsibility for sending him to the hospital. I informed him that we value him and care for his well-being and that we would not expect any person to perform duty when their personal health is at risk.

The pilot made the bold trip as promised and safely transported him to Service Hospital at Air Force Station, Jorhat. The Sub-Inspector of Police told me that he would never forget this particular day of his life on which he could directly experience the sense of urgency with which we acted and treated him as if he is the most precious thing on earth.

I love the Service Award I earned at Doom Dooma without using any Service Weapon. I love Doom Dooma for the opportunity it gave to me to demonstrate my commitment to serve the men who serve our country without any concern for my personal safety.

The term ‘inventor’ is used to describe a person who devises a new contrivance. This is a post to pay tribute to Dr. Douglas Carl Engelbart who during 1968 invented the first computer ‘mouse’ and has revolutionized the manner in which people can use the electronic medium to communicate with each other, and to perform a myriad of functions with absolute ease. I am happy to acknowledge the thirty-year track record of Engelbart in predicting, designing, and implementing the future of organizational computing. The invention of ‘mouse’, a device to control the desktop computer has helped the development of interactive computer technologies. Engelbart had authored over 25 publications, generated 20 patents, including the patent for the first computer mouse. In the late 1980s the mouse became the standard way to control a desktop computer.

In Doug’s Words:

” The mouse we built for the [1968] show was an early prototype that had three buttons. We turned it around so the tail came out the top. We started with it going the other direction, but the cord got tangled when you moved your arm.

I first started making notes for the mouse in ’61. At the time, the popular device for pointing on the screen was a light pen, which had come out of the radar program during the war. It was the standard way to navigate, but I didn’t think it was quite right.

Two or three years later, we tested all the pointing gadgets available to see which was the best. Aside from the light pen there was the tracking ball and a slider on a pivot. I also wanted to try this mouse idea, so Bill English went off and built it.

We set up our experiments and the mouse won in every category, even though it had never been used before. It was faster, and with it people made fewer mistakes. Five or six of us were involved in these tests, but no one can remember who started calling it a mouse. I’m surprised the name stuck.

We also did a lot of experiments to see how many buttons the mouse should have. We tried as many as five. We settled on three. That’s all we could fit. Now the three-button mouse has become standard, except for the Mac.”

The first computer mouse was a wooden shell with metal wheels. The man behind it, tech visionary Doug Engelbart, has died at 88 after transforming the way people work, play and communicate.

The mild-mannered Engelbart had audacious ideas. Long before Apple founder Steve Jobs became famous for his dramatic presentations, Engelbart dazzled the industry at a San Francisco computer conference in 1968.

Working from his house with a homemade modem, he used his lab’s elaborate new online system to illustrate his ideas to the audience, while his staff linked in from the lab. It was the first public demonstration of the mouse and video teleconferencing, and it prompted a standing ovation.

“We will miss his genius, warmth and charm,” said Curtis R. Carlson, the CEO of Stanford Research Institute International, where Engelbart used to work. “Doug’s legacy is immense. Anyone in the world who uses a mouse or enjoys the productive benefits of a personal computer is indebted to him.”

Back in the 1950s and 1960s, when mainframe computers took up entire rooms and were fed data on punch cards, Engelbart already was envisioning a day when computers were far more intuitive to use.

One of the biggest advances was the mouse, which he developed in the 1960s and patented in 1970. The idea was way ahead of its time. The mouse didn’t become commercially available until 1984, with the release of Apple’s then—revolutionary Macintosh computer. Engelbart conceived the mouse so early in the evolution of computers that he and his colleagues didn’t profit much from it. The technology passed into the public domain in 1987, preventing him from collecting royalties on the mouse when it was in its
widest use. At least 1 billion have been sold since the mid-1980s.

Now, their usage is waning as people merely swipe their finger across a
display screen.

“There are only a handful of people who were as influential,” said Marc Weber, founder and curator of the Internet history program at the Computer History Museum, where Engelbart had been a fellow since 2005. “He had a complete vision of what computers could become at a very early stage.”

Among Engelbart’s other key developments in computing, along with his colleagues at SRI International and his own lab, the Augmentation Research Center, was the use of multiple windows. His lab also helped develop ARPANet computer network, the government research network that led to the Internet.

Engelbart played down the importance of his inventions, stressing instead his vision of using collaboration over computers to solve the world’s problems. “Many of those firsts came right out of the staff’s innovations even had to be explained to me before I could understand them,” he said in a biography written by his daughter.

In 1997, Engelbart won the most lucrative award for American inventors, the $500,000 Lemelson-MIT Prize. Three years later, President Bill Clinton bestowed Engelbart with the National Medal of Technology “for creating the foundations of personal computing.”

Douglas Carl Engelbart was born January 30, 1925, and studied electrical engineering, taking two years off during World War II to serve as a Navy electronics and radar technician in the Philippines. It was there that he read Vannevar Bush’s “As We May Think” and was inspired by the idea of a machine that would aid human cognition. Engelbart later(1955) earned his PhD. at University of California, Berkeley, but after joining the faculty, he was warned by a colleague that if he kept talking about his “wild ideas” he’d be an acting assistant professor forever. So he left for the Stanford Research Institute, now SRI International.

Engelbart is survived by his wife, Karen O’Leary Engelbart; his four children, Diana, Christina, Norman and Greda, and nine grandchildren.

It was not a cataclysmic change with consequences for the survival of life. The climatic change has actually helped the development and spread of modern human culture. In my view, there is no extinct or living Species that can bridge the gap between the Human Species and its nearest Hominid allies. About, 10,000 years ago, Earth’s surface had changed. The land area covered by Ice has steadily decreased; in Upper Pleistocene about 28 percent land area was covered by Ice and in Holocene, only about 10 percent land area is covered by ice. The warming of the climate has increased the area of habitation available to the various Hominid Species. Environmental conditions are entirely favorable to the survival of all the Hominid Species. If Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is a valid theory, we must witness the simultaneous co-existence of all intermediate varieties that may have progressed through incremental changes leading to the Origin of the Human Species. There was no geological catastrophe, it is relatively easy to adapt to the changed environment, food supply is adequate and particularly the Hominid Species were not preying upon one another in their struggle for existence. Actually, Darwin’s view on blending of hereditary factors is not supported by Gregor Mendel’s classic experiments in hybridization. According to Mendel, Inheritance is particulate and his theory is fully validated. Distinct genetic factors combine to produce a certain somatic result without causing the loss of separate identities carried by specific genes. The genetic factors can therefore be assorted and enter into new genetic combinations in the next generation. There is no evidence to suggest that the new Human Species has arrived because of some abrupt mutations in a single generation of any particular Hominid Species. It may be noted that Darwin’s Theory claims that new species originate through natural processes of Heredity and Selection. The Natural Laws of Heredity, and the natural process named Natural Selection are not sufficient for the production of the new Human Species that replaced all other Hominid Species that survived until Middle and Upper Pleistocene.

WHOLE DUDE – WHOLE DANCE :

Dance is an expression in rhythmic movement of an intensified sense of life, arising from an inner perception that stimulates both mind and body. Dance is often performed to simply take delight in the movement itself. I would like to speak about the dance impulse and not about ‘The Art of Dancing’. The ‘Art of Dancing’ is the act of moving the body in a rhythmical way, usually to music, to express an emotion, or idea and it develops into a design – a planned organization of a pattern of movement in rhythm, in space, and on the ground with its steps, gestures, and dynamics. Dance is one of the oldest of art forms and is part of every culture of our planet Earth. Dance may be used for a variety of motives and its purposes are varied such as ceremonial, liturgical, magical, theatrical, social, or purely aesthetic. However, it must be noted that the purpose of dancing as a social activity and as a form of entertainment is of recent origin. The dance impulse has been there from the beginning of man’s existence on Earth.

DANCE AND WHOLE DANCE :

Dance may have been the first means of communication. Dance is a natural activity to express feelings in action. At a fundamental level, dance remains a simple expression of pleasure or act related to courtship, and mating behavior. Birds, animals, and even spiders dance to attract and impress a mate as part of their reproductive behavior and to attain reproductive success.

Pavo cristatus-Whole Dude-Whole Dance — Whole Dude-Whole Dance: Pavo cristatus- Peacock is a male peafowl with a crest of plumules and long, brightly colored upper tail coverts that can be spread like a fan and have rainbow-colored eye like spots. It struts and makes very loud calls to attract the attention of its female partner displaying a magical quality of courtship behavior.

There are many kinds of dancing but, dance as a natural impulse does not require training or tutoring. Man expresses his feelings in movement to simply release the natural instinct like the desire for mating. Dance as a courtship behavior is devised for the enjoyment of the performer to achieve his own purpose and it is not for the benefit of any spectator other than that of a mating partner. It can be classified as ‘Solo Dance’. My friend Charles the Great performs vivacious, dynamic, and passionate dance movement while all of us are busy performing our work-related tasks. He vibrates his legs, gesticulate with his hands, swings his shoulders and hips, and twitches his head. The impulse to dance comes very unexpectedly just like an epileptic seizure or convulsion. He suddenly moves into the dance mode while he was in the middle of doing or performing a complicated and demanding task. He has explained that his dance could be called “HILLBILLY” Dance. It is wild, it is rustic, or folksy. The hand, and elbow movements indicate a sense of urgency, a passionate desire, and announce that he is ready for action; his preparedness for courtship and it announces a plea for sexual union. The hip movements suggests, demands, or challenges to elicit a response to his readiness for mating. He moves his hips sideways to send a negative signal and when viewed by his partner it gets translated into a positive signal to commence his true, or intended action of moving his hips back and forth for successfully accomplishing his mission. I have asked Charles the Great as to why he is sending a negative signal and not using a positive signal to express his true desire. In his expert opinion, the females are wired differently; they always translate a positive signal into a negative response and convert a negative signal into positive action. The female as species have an intrinsic or innate desire to control, and to regulate the courtship and mating behavior of the male. A signal sent by male will often elicit an opposite reaction. Charles the Great communicates his impulse with his unique dance move that states: “I am ready for action. Do you want to say No?” Charles the Great is a very successful person and his “NO” is always replied with “YES.” I call his Dance as the Whole Dance for Whole Success. I had asked him to share the secret for his success in Life. He told me that he always dances to the magical tune of the Piper and follows the charismatic Piper all the time. I am not surprised. Charles the Great had moved from Boston City to Ann Arbor, Michigan just a few months ago and now he is busy packing his bags and is on the move again. He is leaving all his buddies behind and is following the Piper to live in Chicago. I have asked him if he has any problem with living in Ann Arbor. Hegel developed theories of Reality, Absolute Spirit, Absolute Mind, Absolute Reason, Whole Truth, World Soul and others. He had influenced most facets of modern philosophy. According to Hegel, reality is Absolute Mind, Reason or Spirit which manifests itself in both natural and human history. This Mind is universal and therefore cannot be identified with the mind of any particular person. He treated all reality as the creation of Mind or Spirit. The philosophy of Idealism makes the attempt to account for all objects in nature and experience as representatives of the mind( ideas ). Hegel identified the whole of Reality with what he called ‘the Absolute’ and interpreted the whole of human history as the progressive self-realization of this Absolute Spirit. His famous dictum: “The real is rational and the rational real”, is an expression of the identity of reality and the rational process. Because reality is rational, it acts in accordance with the laws of reasoning. To understand the nature of thought, then, is to understand the nature of reality as a whole. Hegel held that all previous philosophical speculations had failed to give a clear view of reality. As per his view, the attempt to understand the apparently individual and unconnected phenomena of nature, history, and human life through separate categories of thought is utterly mistaken. He insisted that Reality can only be understood as a totality: “the Truth is the Whole.” At the center of the universe, Hegel posited an enveloping Absolute Spirit that guides all reality, including human reason. His absolute Idealism envisages a World-Soul that develops from, and is known through a process of change and progress termed as Hegelian Dialectic. He described the dialectical nature of Mind’s activity. According to the Laws of Dialectic, one idea or concept or proposition (‘thesis’) inevitably generates its opposite (‘antithesis’), their conflict or interaction generates a new concept or ‘Synthesis’ which in turn becomes the ‘thesis’ of a new triad. Thus he developed the concept of Mind or Spirit that manifested itself in a set of contradictions and oppositions that it ultimately integrated and united without eliminating either pole or reducing one to the other. His philosophy enables human beings to comprehend the historical unfolding of the ‘Absolute’. He traced the progression of consciousness from sense perception to absolute knowledge. He had influenced people such as Jean Paul Sartre (Existentialism) and Karl Marx (Dialectical Materialism and Communism), and had influenced the development of Positivism (Auguste Comte), and Analytic Philosophy.

Reality refers to a person or a thing that is real, true, or an established, or verified fact and principle. It has the quality of being true to life. Reality has the quality of being in accordance with experience. Reality suggests confirming observations that are characterized by constancy and consistency. The scientific method involves use of experiments to obtain observational data with precision, accuracy, and consistency. Could Whole Dude or Whole Person use scientific methods to obtain clarity and certainty in all matters? Could Whole Dude or Whole Person extend scientific methodology of investigation to every field of Inquiry? Could Whole Dude or Whole Person find Reality as an external experience? Could Whole Dude or Whole Person use scientific information to experience Reality? Could Whole Dude or Whole Person totally depend upon science to find Reality in Life??? To know Reality, we may have to understand the problem of Illusion which is defined as a false idea, a false perception, a false image, a false appearance, a false opinion, a false interpretation, and a false belief. Illusion has the quality of not being in accord with verified facts, established knowledge, and true and proven information. Does science have the power to remove Illusion and replace it with Reality?

THE POWER OF ILLUSION vs THE POWER OF REALITY :

Pencil-in-Water-Illusion-Whole Dude-Whole Reality — Whole Dude-Whole Reality : Stimulus Distortion Illusion. This visual, optical illusion is produced by the refraction or bending of light rays as it passes from one medium or substance to another medium in which the speed of light is significantly different. A ray of light passing from one transparent medium(Air) to another transparent medium(Water) is bent at the surface where Air and Water meet. The Pencil standing in water appears bent at the Air/Water interphase.

When an object exists in a conditioned state, like this Pencil in Water, the Reality of Pencil can be easily verified by simply inspecting the Pencil after pulling it out of water. Science explains the reason for this Optical Illusion by stating the properties of Light and Light rays. But, science has no power over the Power of Light and the properties of Light rays. Science cannot prevent this kind of Optical Illusion. Similarly, science may explain the fact of the Speed of a given point on the surface of Earth( about 66, 660 Miles/Hour). But, science has no power and cannot force man to experience the Reality of Earth’s Speed of Rotation. Man lives on the surface of Earth without ever experiencing the Reality of Earth’s Motion. There is no physical, or mental experience of Earth’s Speed. To the same extent, man lives on the surface of Earth with no physical, or mental experience of Sun’s true or real Motions. What man experiences in his daily life is the apparent motion of Sun across the Sky. Man consistently and constantly experiences the fact of Sunrise and Sunset which is not supported by the Reality about Sun and its true or real Motions. The Reality as explained by science does not govern human existence. Man’s Biological Rhythm and biological activities are synchronized with the experience of Illusion, the Illusion of Sunrise and Sunset and not that of Reality of Sun’s celestial movements. The movements of Earth and Sun are useful only in the context of the overriding Power of Illusion. Man lives his Life and is dependent upon the Power of Illusion and is saved from the burden of experiencing the Power of Reality.

Name is a very important tool to describe personal identity. The word name as a noun, describes a person, place or thing. It is also a word or words by which an object of thought is known. Indians did not choose the name India or Indian.

My mother gave birth to me at my maternal grandfather’s residence 2/37 Kutchery Road in Mylapore during the month called Dhanurmasam that represents Sun’s transit in Sagittarius.

I am born on a Friday night, at 4:30 A.M or the early morning hours of Saturday as the day begins at Sunrise. My grandfather’s residence on Kutchery Road is located at a short distance from Santhome Cathedral on the East, and Kapaleeswarar Temple on the West.

I spent the years of my early childhood at my paternal grandfather’s mansion in Innespeta, Rajahmundry, East Godavari District of Madras Presidency and later Andhra Pradesh, India.

As per the traditional belief and the practice of Vedic Astrology known as Jyotish (Science of Light), my Birth Star Moola predicted and warned about some forthcoming inauspicious events.

The astrological calculations suggested that remedial action is needed to counter the negative aspects of the Moola Birth Star.

Accordingly, my father performed a ritualistic worship popularly known as Rudra Abhishekam and worshiped Lord Shiva at the beautiful Kapaleeswarar Temple of Mylapore.

To ensure that I would always enjoy the blessings of Lord Shiva, my father decided to name me as Rudra. Hence, the name of Rudra instantly connects me to my birth place of Mylapore and to Lord Kapaleeswarar who was chosen as my personal protector.

The names Rudra and Narasimham are well-known and particularly in the southern States of India, the name Narasimham and numerous variations of that name are frequently used. As long as I remain a conscious entity, my grandparents live in my consciousness.
