Whole Perception – The Flow of Time

Once in a ‘Blue Moon’ – Welcome to New Year 2010:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Once in a ‘Blue Moon’, we encounter a second Full Moon on New Year’s Eve.
Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The sensory perception about Moon depends upon the place where we exist on this planet Earth. The visual experience of Moon is not the same, it is not absolute and is only relative.

In the United States, on New Year’s Eve, we had a ‘Blue Moon’ to ring in the Year 2010. As the saying goes, the Blue Moon is a rare event. In any given season, we encounter three Full Moons. Blue Moon is defined as the third Full Moon in a season with four Full Moons. It is also easy to define a Blue Moon as the second Full Moon in a given month. A Full Moon occurs every 29.5 days and most years have 12 Full Moons. An extra Full Moon in a month is described as a Blue Moon. The name has nothing to do with the color of our celestial neighbor. The first Full Moon of the month occurred on December 2nd, 2009. On Thursday, December 31, 2009, the New Year’s Eve, the Full Moon appeared for the second time. An extra Full Moon occurs every 2.5 years. New Year’s Eve Blue Moons are rarer occuring every 19 years. The last time was in 1990, and the next Full Moon comes on New Year’s Eve again in 2028.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: A partial Lunar Eclipse on New Year’s Eve was visible in the East and not in the Americas.

While the United States ushered the New Year with a Blue Moon and in the Eastern Hemisphere, people celebrated the arrival of the New Year with a partial Lunar Eclipse when part of the Moon entered the Earth’s shadow. This Eclipse was not visible in the Americas. As to how we recognize the arrival of New Year depends upon the place where we live on this planet Earth. This New Year’s Blue Moon is unique to the place where we live.

The Perception of Change:

The experience of time on this planet Earth is an illusionary experience and is not an ‘absolute’ experience. In New York City, at Times Square thousands of people gathered on the New Year’s Eve to watch the “Ball” drop to ring in the New Year.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The Magical Moment in Times Square. The JOY of ushering the New Year.

The future does not exist except in our expectation. The expectation that the Ball would drop at a precise moment is the anticipated future. The future gets transformed into the past in an instant when the Ball drops down. The past does not exist except in our memory. The present represents that instant in the future and past continuum. The New Year has arrived at the middle of the night not because of a perceptible ‘Change’ in the environment. The ‘Change’ is recognized by the use of a clock and the Ball in Times Square drops by perceiving the ‘Change’ in the clock’s time. Time is perceived by the ‘Change’ it brings. Man has invented calendars and clocks to affix numbers to the passage of time. The most a clock can give is the time an instant ago and not even the time ‘now’.

WHOLE DUDE – WHOLE OPTICS: SPIRITUALISM INVOLVES A SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LIGHT OR OPTICS. GOD IS LIGHT, LIGHT IS LIFE, AND COLOR IS THE EVIDENCE FOR THE USE OF IMAGINATION TO FORMULATE SPIRITUAL RELATIONSHIPS.

In the Indian Tradition, the New Year is associated with more perceptible changes in the physical environment. According to Indian calendars, the New Year arrives during the Spring Season, and the New Year’s Day is heralded by the dawn with the Sun rising above the horizon.

The History of Time Measurement:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception. Time Measurement.

Earth’s rate of spin is the determinant of our day. The speed of the Earth’s rotation can be described in two ways: 1. The Angular or Omega Speed – the Earth rotates 360 degrees in 24 hours, or 15 degrees per hour, or 0.5 degrees of rotation in two minutes. 2. The Linear Speed or Velocity of a point on the surface of the Earth is about 1,000 miles/hour. A clock (from the Latin. Cloca – bell ) is an instrument for measuring time intervals of less than a day as opposed to a Calendar which measures time intervals greater than a day.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Measurement of Time. Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) discovered the pendulum
Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The invention of Pendulum – The History of Time Measurement.
Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Dutch Scientist Christiaan Huygens the inventor of first Pendulum Clock
Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Measurement of Time. In 1656, Huygens determined the mathematical formula that related pendulum length to time and built the first pendulum driven Clock.
Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Measurement of Time. The Grandfather Clock – The division of the day into hours, minutes, and seconds helps us to recognize the passage of time. We have no sensory perception of Earth’s spin that gives us alternate periods of light and darkness.

The day is measured in relation to the time taken for Earth’s rotation that causes perceptible environmental changes. Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens ushered us into the era of precision timekeeping. During 1884, Greenwich in England was adopted as the zero degree longitude. U.S. time zones came into existence in 1883, the global time zones came into use in 1884, and ‘daylight’ savings time came into use in 1915. However, the Earth is an erratic time keeper. The Earth’s rotation is affected by the tides, changing weather patterns, ocean currents, and polar ice variations. The net effect is that it is slowing, losing a few thousandths of a second per century. Half a billion years ago the planet took only 20 hours to make it through the day. In another 200 million years an Earth Day will last 25 hours. Man has acquired the ability to track the motion inside atomic nucleus. Picoseconds describe trillionths of a second, and Femtoseconds describe thousandths of a Picosecond. To give a better perspective, it could be stated that there are more Femtoseconds in one second than there were seconds in the past 31 million years.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Measurement of Time. Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 developed the Gregorian Calendar that we use today.

The seasons of Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn and the phases of the Moon are used to measure the passage of time of a greater duration than a day. The Babylonians, and the Egyptians had used calendars. The Calendar developed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 is accurate to a day in every 3,323 years. The Calendar is related to Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Earth’s orbit around the Sun takes about 365 1/4 days. Earth orbits the Sun at a distance of about 93 million miles. Earth travels a distance of about 584 million miles per year at about a speed of 66,660 miles/hour. The Moon rotates on its axis and revolves around the Earth in about 29.5 days  and has helped man to devise the 30 day Lunar Calendar. Moon spins with the same period as its revolution around the Earth and hence the same face of the Moon always points towards the Earth.

Human concepts about Time:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Human concepts about Time. Time flows like a river or moves like an Arrow.

We run our lives by numbers on Clocks and Calendars. The Clocks and Calendars create the illusion that we live in a world of mathematically measured segments of time. Man acquired advanced language abilities to descirbe the past in terms of personal experience. Because of linguistic skills, man is able to communicate his expectations about future and reminisce about past events. Time is looked upon as a flow like a river.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Human concepts about Time. Sir Issac Newton (1687) stated that the Flow of Time is Absolute.

Sir Issac Newton claims that the time “flows equably without relation to anything external.” In 1905, while postulating the Theory of Relativity, Albert Einstein had observed that time is not absolute and that the measurement of time is affected by the motion of the observer.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Human concepts about Time. Albert Einstein stated that Time is not Absolute and is relative to the motion of the observer.

The relativity of time becomes significant only at very great speeds. Rapidly moving clocks tick more slowly than clocks at rest. Herman Minkowski, a mathematician, added time as the fourth dimension of three dimensional space. Time is seen as a dimension like height, and width, and it gives meaning to events and the order in which they occur. Gravity affects both time and light. Time is affected by the gravitational field of each celestial body and thus is unique to any one spot in the universe. The physicists tend to view time and space as the building blocks of the universe. However, time is not a substance and it is only a measuring tool. Motion and time are invariably linked. There can be no velocity without the concept of time. While time is not absolute, the speed of light (186,282 miles/second) is absolute. Now, we have the practical ability to actually look at past while living in the present. By looking at light reaching us from a far away Galaxy, or a Supernova, we are looking as it was billions of years ago.

The Biological Clock. The Eternal Flow of Time vs The Eternal Law of Aging:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The Eternal Flow of Time vs The Eternal Law of Aging. The Biological Clock is an Internal Clock that monitors time and brings about changes that affect the body and its functions.

A  biologist sees time in the ‘internal clocks’ that keep all living entities in sync with nature. The body’s dominant time cycle is called the ‘Circadian Rhythm’ (Latin. Circa – approximately; and Dies – day or About a Day). For most of us a normal circadian cycle is 25 hours. A seven day week could be described as a unit of time for the biological rhythms that regulate changes in body chemicals, the response pattern of the immune system, the rise and fall of heart beat and changes in circualtion display this periodicity of functioning.

Human body undergoes age related changes in structure and function with the passage of time and it is unrelated to man’s ability to measure time or man’s concepts about time. Aging is a time related biological phenomenon on which man has very little control.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The Eternal Flow of Time vs The Eternal Law of Aging. The Molecular Mechanisms of Aging.

The biological clock measures time and the activity of genes is selectively turned on or off. Apart from cell damage due to the products of cell metabolism, effects of physical environment, and biological agents, cells experience senescence. We are predestined to exist as mortal individuals and the human body experiences changes in its structure and function even if we fail to keep track of the passage of time. Humans lack the biological and physiological abilities to transform our physical bodies into sources of perpetual enjoyment. Time has influence over both animate and inanimate world. Apart from human existence, the existence of this created universe is subject to time’s Power of Dissolution. The White Dwarfs, the Brown Dwarfs, the Super Novae offer observable evidence about the effects of time on physical objects and its power to cause change, transformation, and eventually dissolution.

Where are We Now?

Whole Dude – Whole Perception. Where Are We Now?

Where were we in the year 2009? Where would we exist in the year 2011? In the year 2010, where are we now? Our measurement of time gives the illusionary experience of the material world in which we exist. Our experience of time is illusionary as we do not know as to when time began and we do not know as to when it may cease to exist. Indian thinkers have described time or “KAALA” as eternal and time existed before creation, and would continue to exist after dissolution of creation.

During this middle interval, after creation and before its dissolution, time exists in relation to motion. When there is no motion in absolute terms, there would be no time interval that could be measured, and  the stillness arrests the flow of time.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Where are We Now? A Designer Universe is described by a Greek word called ‘COSMOS’ which means Beauty and Order.

Since, time is related to movement, we need a reference point to know our exact position at any given instant. Our position on the surface of the Earth keeps changing as Earth participates in the motions of the Sun as a member of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Sun also revolves around the galactic center at a speed of about 155 miles/second and Earth participates in this motion along with the rest of the Solar System. We need to know the precise location of the Sun in the Milky Way Galaxy at any given time and also know the precise location of the Milky Way Galaxy in the universe in which it exists. Without this information, our experience and understanding of time remains purely a local experience relative to a spot in this universe of unknown dimensions.

Linear vs  Circular Time Flow:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Linear vs Circular Flow of Time.

Is past, present, and future are arranged in a straight line? In the West, time is more often viewed as a one-way track. The “monochronic” perception about time in the West could be related to its cultural beliefs such as resurrection which gives a sense of the arrow of time pointing in one direction. In India, time is viewed as a circle and all things are expected to return to a former state of existence. In nature, the seasons repeat themselves, and the living entities follow this pattern of cyclical growth and regeneration. According to the Indian concept of ‘Samsara’, the individual soul is eternal but is trapped in a cyclical existence of birth, death, and rebirth. The Indian concept of  ‘Karma’ also very firmly binds the individual soul to its past states of existence and the individual experiences the past in his present existence, and also in all of his future states of existence. The cyclical flow of time would let us experience the past and lets time to repeat itself.

Time’s Power of Dissolution. The Mystical Power of Time:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – ESSENCE – IDENTITY – UNITY – EXISTENCE : ADI SHANKARA(c.788 – c.820?), EXPONENT OF ADVAITA OR NON-DUALISM AND THE THEORY OF MAYA OR ILLUSION.

Time exerts a powerful influence over the qualitative aspects of human existence. Whatever qualities or attributes such as material wealth, power, status, and social position that man cherishes and desires most could be dissolved and rendered useless by the effects of time. Indian thinker Adi Shankaracharya has cautioned people to be aware of the powerful force of Illusion called ‘MAYA’ and we are asked to avoid the perceptual problems it generates.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: Time’s Power of Dissolution. The Mystical Power of Time.

Since the manifested world and universe gives illusory experience, we need to be careful about the effects of time that tends to dissolve the manifested universe at an individual level and also as a collective human sensory experience. A philosopher had observed that:”Time is the Best Teacher, unfortunately, it kills all its pupils.” Humans have no choice. Time alters our ability to perceive the sensory experience and enjoyment of our physical body.

Time with its Power of Dissolution would eventually compel us to investigate and to explore the Concept of Absolute and Unchanging Reality. The Strong Nuclear Force, the Weak Nuclear Force, Electromagnetism, and the Gravitational Force operate the Four Fundamental Interactions and the role of time has not been explained by physicists. Natural scientist Charles Darwin had observed that things in nature change with time. Does time exert a force entirely of its own to change things in nature? If time is viewed as a power or a force, who controls this force and what are the Laws that operate this Force? Indian thinkers are of the opinion that Purusha (the Divine Soul), Prakriti (the material Nature), and Kaala or Time are eternal and these three entities existed before formation of this created universe, will operate during the existence of this created universe, and eventually remain existing after the total dissolution of the present created universe.

The flow of time is eternal, but time is not absolute. Purusha or the Supreme Divine Soul is the ultimate Controller of Energy in all of its forms. The Power of Time to dissolve the creation has no effect on the Creator. All the living entities are created by the Superior Energy of the Supreme Divine Soul, and the individual souls have the ability to exploit energy of an inferior source such as Prakriti (material Nature). The physical body experiences dissolution as per a predetermined time (Kaala Sutra), and the individual souls alone survive the dissolution of animate and inanimate world and universe.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – ESSENCE AND EXISTENCE – CHIDAMBARA RAHASYAM: LORD GOD IS JUST ONE AND THE SAME AND YET MAN KNOWS HIM BY DIFFERENT NAMES. IN INDIAN TRADITION, THE NAME RAMA IS THE PERSONIFICATION OF THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH OR THE ULTIMATE REALITY. LORD RAMA IS THE SOURCE OF KRUPA OR COMPASSION FOR HE HAD THE EXPERIENCE OF A LIFE JOURNEY IN HIS PHYSICAL MANIFESTATION AS A HUMAN BEING.

 Essence and Existence:

Whole Dude – Whole Perception. The Eternal Flow of Time.

Everything that is born arrives with a plan for its dissolution. In the multicellular human organism, each individual cell has its life span and the human individual has his life span. How is the existence of the individual is established in a multicellular organism? Man may choose to define his essence, and the cells need to function to support the existence of the individual. Man’s identity is just one face of the coin, and the second face of the same coin represents the individuality of that person. Man exists as long as the individuality is maintained. Man is not capable of independent existence. The individuality is sustained because of ‘God Connection’; the Connection that connects the individual who is energy seeker with his energy provider. Man’s intellectual or physical effort is not the basis for this God Connection.

As time flows, man lives his life span because of the mercy, compassion, and grace of the Creator, who had caused the existence of this object that has identity and individuality.

Whole Dude – Whole Perception: The personification of the destructive effects of Time. Greek god Chronos clipping the wings of Cupid, the god of Love.

THE DAWN USHERING THE NEW YEAR

THE DAWN USHERING THE NEW YEAR

“I see the Dawn ushering the New Year” – Welcome to New Year 2010.

1. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Its glorious colours thrilling the heart,

I hear the song sweeter than nectar

The little black bird pealing out in rhapsody,

I see young maidens in their best costumes

 Gathering flowers, making themselves merry,

Their smiles, like the hues of sapphire,

 radiating innocence,

I see everywhere joy, the Mother Earth herself

 playing the guitar,

Her sweet kiss and warm hug banishing fear

 from every head.

“The little black bird pealing out in rhapsody” – Koel, the Song Bird of India, known as Eudynamys scolopacea, the Cuckoo bird, Family Cuculidae, Order Cuculiformes.

2. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Making me remember the days gone by

The struggle I had to walk erect

To live in the world and still be out of it,

To stand up to truth and with no grease to the palm,

To be a teacher indeed was no mere dream

And do one’s duty was itself its reward.

3. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Rousing hopes in me of joining the immortals

To strain my utmost to get the vision of Beauty,

of Cosmic Effulgence,

To pour over pages to destroy lingering cobwebs

of ignorance and superstition,

To elevate the mind where none is seen as inferior

And vie with the chosen that leave their prints

on the sands of  Fame.

4. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

That works miracles, making hope eternal,

That provides the healing touch to the festering sores,

That puts down the flame in the cauldron,

That restores dignity to the downtrodden,

and helps us to proclaim

That Peace and Sanity shall reign

And the World shall always be One.

Composed by R. Suryanarayana Murthy in celebration of Telugu New Year ‘VIBHAVA’ on March 18, 1988.

THE DIVINE GARB

"I see the crimson colours of the Divine Garb"
"I see the crimson colours of the Divine Garb"

THE DIVINE GARB

I see a divine garb hanging round my body

In the early morning hours when I still feel bodily pains

And warding off all attempts to bring to an end

Night’s dreamy splendour;

I see the crimson colours of the divine garb

Absorbing the cooling effect of the early morning rays

The garb giving me the feel

That  I am something of the very special

The divine garb is not like the one

Faked by rogue weavers

To make a gullible king walk half naked in the streets

The garment is indeed woven as a web

Where threads are smeared with thoughts pure and holy

To give them a dazzle and sheen

I get up not knowing what to do

Is the garment meant to convey a message

That I should play the role of a missionary

To make the man in the street learn his relationship with Almighty

Though a devoted soul I know I am hardly fitted to play such a role

My inadequacies are too many and too glaring

To dare and challenge those already in the field.

Is the garment meant to wake up in me thoughts lying dormant

Like particles floating in the rays of the morning sun

To enable me to join the ranks of knowledgeable souls

Whose message conveyed through word and print

Makes them unrivalled in the field of poetry or art

Here again I feel humbled

As the gumption that produced those wizards

Whose classics enthralled hmanity over the centuries

Is not what I can lay claim to with confidence.

I pick up a few granites of hard History

Which is all I could gather after digging over the years into realms of past

Though the effort is not much I can see the road ahead

I have an understanding how the world is what it is today

The chronicles are there for anybody to read

To understand the myriad efforts put forth by man to achieve progress

I find the divine garb is sent with a mission

To give cheer and hope to an agonised soul

Perplexed with dismay and despair

Facing the trauma of a life besieged with problems of aging and health

Its message is not to waver but put forth best effort

In the service of man even in a limited way

As the last days could also be best days at times

The mind cast in a mould of peace and content,

And God remains sheet-anchor in thought and deed.

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream

Welcome to Tarangini, the Flowing Stream or River. The Flow or Motion is symbolic of Life in Motion.
Water supports Life. Running or Streaming Water represents Life in Motion.
Welcome to Tarangini, the Flowing Stream. Water supports Life. Running or Streaming Water represents Life in Motion.
Welcome to Tarangini, the Flowing Stream. I would like to draw an analogy between the Fluidity that manifests as a Flowing Stream and the Fluidity of a Mind that lets a ‘thought wave’ to propagate.
Tarangini - The Running Stream
Welcome to Tarangini – The Flowing Stream

The word “TARANGINI” means a flowing river or stream. The act of flowing gives the water a life of its own. The river or stream is alive as long as the water is flowing. Man is confronted by the problems of aging and health. It is the thoughts and deeds of the man that survive which gives us a hope that human life could get over the limitations imposed by mortality. Tarangini conveys the thoughts that are expressed by my father, Shri. Rebbapragada Suryanarayana Murthy and I am happy to share his thoughts with others. In the fluidity of this flowing stream, I express a sense of hope for humanity and its quest for immortality.

Please also read my personal tribute to my father at my entry titled TARANGINI” – THE WAVE THEORY OF IMMORTALITY.

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Language of the Heart.

The Language of the Heart

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Language of the Heart.

The language of the heart is a language rarely heard

It originates from the inner recesses of the body

From a point nearer to the heart

In the passionate love between a lover and his beloved

Sanctified by the sacerdotals string tied during matrimony round the bridal neck

It is the language marked by deep emotional fervor

Spoken in whispers of of odonce sweet

Providing the bals to their daily chores

Help the boat in sail through can or perilous waters

Bind the souls together with hoops of steel

It is also the language of truth, of sound reasoning

Making their thought transparent as in a mirror.

The language of the heart gets added strength

With new colours added like the flowers blossoming during spring

When the family base gets widened

The birth of a child, bursting flood banks of leove,

Gives the language a new warth and greater depth

The total innocence of the child and its shining face providing the rich tapestry

To sing the song th lull the child to sleep

Or stop it from crying

Its twitters providing a stream of endless joy.

The language of the heart gets further onriched

With the child growing in age

With new vocabulary added to give strategic strength

To build a canopy, to help the child grow in freedom and joy

To ward off evil forces

The child deeply aware of the flow of love around

Storing in the subsconscious

Scenes of the enchanting days

Memories which will never fade

And help to serve as bedrock

To miltes life’s myriad troubles.

The langage of the heart gets bogged

Its frontiers getting pierced with the teacher entering the scene

Laying emphasis on acquiring skills and smartness of usage

Adding richly to the child’s mental kit

Helping him to acquire a new appearance the adolescent youth

With a buoyancy of spirit, rugged and wild,

To start a new carrer

To seek a partner in life, in happy wedlook

To live in a dream world of their own

The heart ostablishes its regime again

Making full use of the strength extended by the mind.

Rule of Law-My Spiritual Quest

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Rule of Law.”MIND LIKE THE PROTECTING ANGEL TO STEER THE BODY”

I have a rule of law for myself

I need no external aid for this regime of mine

Its strength lies in its vast assets

Built up over the years

Based on internal purity of the mind

Of body too as both are linked in many ways

Body of taking orders from the mind

Mind like the protecting angel to steer the body

Through eddies and whirlpools but always into the harbor

But at times mind fails to provide the signal

Gets bogged with conflicting thoughts

Like the ocean when churned by the Devas and Asuras

Emnating poisonous fumes

Body in deep agony and forlorn

Dwelves deep into the inner recesses

And to a thud, deep and sonorous in tone its source scarcely visible

Could it be the inner voice, the voice of conscience,

Its message clear like the Commandments of yore,

All doubts get doused, all illusions vanish,

A new regime is launched, a new pathway found,

Mind becomes the Conqueror, a Mahavira,

Its enemies driven in all directions

While body becomes the Kingdom, where peace reigns eternal.

A Tribute to Sathya Kidney Centre-The Modern Medicine Man

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. A tribute to Sathya Kidney Centre.

In the world of disease, where billions are prey to myriad troubles,

Giving them sleepless nights,

When anxiety and worry about the dawn of the morrow

Keeps persons in high tension and low spirits

The presence of a doctor by the beside

Could be the greatest of boons.

Not for nothing the medicine man was glorified by the early tribes

He is nicknamed sorcerer by modern pundits

But could be truly a scientist with an all-embracing role

Using his medical knowledge for political gain

While compelling death to take a glance and pass by

Instead of pouncing on his patients with its piercing claws.

In ancient Taxila a student searches and searches in vain

To find one plant or herb not useful for man

In the vast herbal garden adjacent to his school

Is it an insignia of acquisition of highest knowledge?

Or is it the starting point of research?

As no visible sign there is to set a limit to the horizons of knowledge

Which seem to recede further and further

The more the knowledge is acquired.

In Mahabharata a tribal chief,

Practising the highest arts in life saving game

Befools Takshaka, the serpent king,

By bringing back to life a tree

Reduced into cinder by its venomous fangs

A miracle indeed but medical science presents many such miracles

What more classic example can one have

Or ancient India’s pristine effort

To practice the art of healing for the needy and the suffering.

The great Asoka built many a hospital for man and beast

To restore life and give it a fresh lease

A time when sciences and arts mingled in harmony

To make life less miserable to man.

In the Satya Kidney Centre I see

Something of the glow of the golden past

A medical team wedded to service

Practicing the latest arts in medical surgery

Headed by a chief with skillful fingers

Piercing the interior of the body, the invisible and theunseen,

Unearthing the devil inside

Scorching it to see it will never raise its head again

I see here human effort at its best to serve humanity

Let Sathya Centre thrive

And be a beacon for the country and the world.

Using their powers of intuition and invention;

But using medicine to instigate crime they abhor

Aerial spraying of bacterial venom

Soaking environment with chemical fumes spilling death

Drug addiction and its abuse

Would be an anathema to their primitive mind;

Let the medical system, with its vast domain and modern garb,

A Pasteur, a Fleming, an Yellapragada of Lederle fame,

And a host of kindred souls,

Help usher a New Millennium

Where  disease is banished or finds a cure

To enable man to enjoy a longevity

Where death ceases to haunt his mind.

The Song of Prayer

Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. A Prayer.

(A Prose Poem)

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Song of Prayer.

Ye up from bed, it is prayer time,

Pure in mind, raise your voice in his praise,

Is it one god or many

It one shape or many shape

Or is it shapeless

Or is it female form

Makes no difference to the devotee

Each has regal splendor of its own

And makes you feel equality at home

Instills in you high moral virtues

Of love, sympathy and forgiveness

Lkays claim to govern the moral order

The cosmic phenomena

While being part there or

To sutain it, to keep it going,

Each endowned with enormous power

To subdue mind, to thwart evil,

To make you feel humble, to flush out all impurities

(as no prayer is worthwhile with mind remaining impure)
and allow peace to reign while the prayer goes on.

2) Ye up from bed to sing the song of prayer

Each prayer an offering to almighty

A garland of pearls offered in love

To seek pardon for sins committed

In thought, word or deed,

The list can be long, as the mind can never be stable,

(Unless trained in a different way)

Find, a covenant , grilled in many ways,

Victim of tempests rising inside

No escape route to avoid committing sin

Each act planned in the silence of the chamber

With doors closed

To grab a larger slice of material riches

Or satisfy lustful cravings

To which the body succumbs so very easily

Or get at power by methods twisted and tainted

Or by wading through pool of blood

Prayer the biggest antidote to mitigate sin

And to eascape its after effects

Achievement grooved in sin

Is a life condemned

Acts marking success circumvementing sin

Will rank among the best of prayers.

3) ye up from bed lest you miss the prayer

For there is no better way to cleanse the mind

Prayer the only eascape route for the woes of man

To provide the grip to lift yourself up

To rouse the divine in you or bring you near to the divine

To bid goodbye to all that is commercial

And aspire to become part of the great healthy.

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. A Prayer.

Right and Wrong

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Right and Wrong.

I live in the corridor in between right and wrong

The right is the area of righteousness

Where only good deeds are performed

Where good reighbourhood, charity and love are practiced

Where nobody’s bonafides is suspected

Where heroic deeds are performed with a spirit of sacrifice

Where death produces no ripples of fear

But deemed as culmination of a well lived life

Where forces of evil have no chance to penetrate

As each house is built on the hard granite rock of faith

Where each one makes his life one of triumph and glory

Revolving the dharma chakra

To live a life of subdued joy and inner peace.

The wrong is the area where evil has its perpetual sway

Where people wallow in crime, sedition and intrigue

Where evill is not confined to a small part but spread all over the body

Where shafts of cruelty and barbarism are used to pull to ground pieces of art soaked in the sanctity of a glorious past where pride of place is given to the cult of bomb

And diabolical plans are nurtured and used with devastating effect

To target citadels of power and authority

Where people steeped in a philosophy of obscurantism call the shots

And law is demonized to impose bondage and servitude

As for myself I have chosen my path long back

To live in the safety zone or the corridor

Where honest people live watch with dismay the predations of evil forces

Spill into the area

To carry away sheep and cattle in revelry

To make a bonfire, to indulge

Still I live in hope the corridor will one day become a land

Where peace and joy prevail.

Who is this dame that obeys no laws?

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Who is this dame that obeys no laws?

1) Who is this dame that obeys no laws

And claims its origin in some dim, dark days

When man had yet to learn to walk,

Conjures the mind with visions of the past

Giving no clues to the tangled web of events,

Putting at the helm now one, then another,

Each claiming superior to the other

Every time springing a surprise

An election debacle, a military coup,

Or the more daunting assassin’s hand

Settling the issue for the while;

Or when things take a dramatic turn

An invader from outside or a revolution inside

To claim the mandate, but all the while,

“it is the people that rule always”

The highest bidder proclaims each time

While always it is the people

That are taken for the ride.

2) there are no set rules for the drama that is history

It is a paradise where you can roam as you like;

There is no need to go step by step,

To provide the right answer for the right question;

The historical process none can analyse

Where millions are involved in money and men

And ideas too sprouting from nowhere;

We may begin hoping we are at the end

But fin ourselves still very near the beginning

But if the issues are more tangled,

We may be hoping we are at the beginning of the end

But end only where no end is seen;

We claim it is typical of our studies

Where glory and power collude and reign.

3) But where power corrupts, glory departs.,

And blemishes are galore where ends only count,

But all this is our preserve, we hold dear,

To stigmatize or eulogize, to cover up or dress up,

But always the motive with no one to suspect

As ours is the last word, with no axe to grind,

The gospel we proclaim with all our strength,

“there is nothing heinous in the pursuit of power

The shield we provide is the shield of art

And swear always were are guided by truth;

4) Still we lay claim to the portals of science

Building the biggest bastion of variegated colours

Portraying the expanse of human mind

And of achievements in peace and war

Of infinite variety and ineffable charm

No other science to compete or compare

To scale the heights, or see the grandeur around,

But dealing with those in the corridors of power

Is our hobby and our pleasure

We make the laws and give the judgement

And confer greatness where it is due

While many an Utopia of distant dream
Ushered with fanfare and held aloft,

Marking the dawn of the Millennium

Lie disheveled, disrobed and smothered,

Smitten to pieces under the quicksands of history

But inspire still, defying time

Sparkle and glitter in their broken might

With their message all too wise,

“Past is to dead and never will die,

And shadows the present and is very much in the present”.

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Dame School of History. Who is this dame that obeys no laws?

I AM A TEACHER

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. I am a Teacher.

A PROSE POEM

I am a teacher and destined to be one

For me to be a teacher is a matter of pride

I find no need to covet another’s wealth

As the wealth I won is itself so vast

The more I draw on it the more it grows;

Nor need I speak anything verging on falsehood

Since my job is to disseminate what all I know which is all culled from different masterminds

Whose sense of veracity was never in doubt;

But never I own this knowledge as a monopoly right

To be used to expose or exploit or make fun at some one

Who revel in ignorance giving ear to none;

Who am I to strike awe and wonder in gullible minds?

It is not to seek praise nor win glory I teach,

The knowledge I have I hold in deep trust

To be called a trustee in the true Gandhian sense

To make it available to as many as desire

And as freely too as the rain that comes

Making myself available even in odd hours

Using sparkling sentences and phrases conveying deep meaning

Always ensuring I am clear and carry conviction

The greater the knowledge and larger the circle it reaches

Greater is the joy and the peace that ensues.

2) But there is an ultimate to what one professes to know

There is a limit beyond which mind refuses to be strained

To be ranked among the grand masters is given only to the few

They are the stars which are resplendent

Theirs is the luster of the divine grace

To become a teacher one has to learn and learn

But as something new is added something may also go

And as the age advances the problem complicates

And makes you realize that the tree can grow no further,

But for the art of spinning and weaving words

Making a garb of great beauty and charm

There seems to be no limit to the foliage it puts forth

Ranging in colours from crimson red to dark green

Oh what a joy it gives to make a thundering speech

Using flowing words sparkling with deep resonance and pellucid thought

It is a gift which can make angels envy,

But here lurks the danger of getting engulfed in pride

For one may occasionally fumble and mumble

With thoughts getting jammed in a gorge reaching a dead end

The patience of the audience getting sorely tested

A sensible teacher guards himself against all pitfalls

And is rarely jubilant even when the audience gives a resounding cheer

And grafts in the subconscious the homily of the mean

That any things going to the head will have its fall.

3) There are some teachers who excel as preachers

(and there is an element of moral in all good teaching)

But to be a moralist without being truly moral

Own make you sound hollow with derision to boot

For it is always better to be a moralist in thought and action

That pretend to be naive while preaching so many I sm

\But where a teacher has a message to convey

And knows he is sure of his ground

His message conveyed in golden letters and in glittering print

He has no fear, his bonafides is above board

There is what is called the courage of conviction

Then the teacher ceases to be a were preacher

He will attain a stature which is all too different

And when he departs shedding his earthly coil

He will be remembered as one who tolled hard

Leaving many a foot print on the High Road of eternal Quest.

THE DAWN USHERING THE NEW YEAR

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Dawn Ushering the New Year.

I see the Dawn ushering the New Year” – Welcome to New Year 2010.

1. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Its glorious colours thrilling the heart,

I hear the song sweeter than nectar

The little black bird pealing out in rhapsody,

I see young maidens in their best costumes

 Gathering flowers, making themselves merry,

Their smiles, like the hues of sapphire,

 radiating innocence,

I see everywhere joy, the Mother Earth herself

 playing the guitar,

Her sweet kiss and warm hug banishing fear

 from every head.

Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. The Dawn Ushering the New Year.

2. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Making me remember the days gone by

The struggle I had to walk erect

To live in the world and still be out of it,

To stand up to truth and with no grease to the palm,

To be a teacher indeed was no mere dream

And do one’s duty was itself its reward.

3. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

Rousing hopes in me of joining the immortals

To strain my utmost to get the vision of Beauty,

of Cosmic Effulgence,

To pour over pages to destroy lingering cobwebs

of ignorance and superstition,

To elevate the mind where none is seen as inferior

And vie with the chosen that leave their prints

on the sands of  Fame.

4. I see the dawn ushering the New Year

That works miracles, making hope eternal,

That provides the healing touch to the festering sores,

That puts down the flame in the cauldron,

That restores dignity to the downtrodden,

and helps us to proclaim

That Peace and Sanity shall reign

And the World shall always be One.

The Divine Phenomenon - The Power of Creation
Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Supreme Phenomenon.

SUPREME  PHENOMENON

I saw thee dragging thy feet up the stairs

Making me watch every movement of thine

Step by step, you steadied up,

Thy broad smile hiding all thy effort

What angel pushes thee up no eye can see.

I saw thee stretching, hugging the mother earth,

Rising and falling while crawling all the way;

All to thyself, no pitfall to frighten thee,

Nor danger lurking can stop thee going

And when the journey was finished there is that glow

“Who can beat me in the race?” thy challenge goes out

Thou art the victor in all such deeds.

Thou wert the star attraction of all ages,

Napoleon acclaiming thee as the greatest of all creation;

Saintly Gandhi hugged thee to press his lips on thine

“Chacha” Nehru crawled by thy side forgetting his power and pomp;

Can the royal throne or sceptred sway provide anything equal to thee?

Thou hast remained through ages humanity’s main hope in a naughty world.

Why did the Buddha see in thy birth unredeemed sorrow and suffering?

Why was it that Jesus saw in thy advent the gnawing pain of unsullied sin?

Or why was it the great Sankara said that thy emergence was enveloped in ‘Maya’ or illusion?

Thou did confound every philosopher and kept to thyself the mystery surrounding thy species

Thou an enigma and a riddle proclaiming the unanswerable divine will.

Still the world all over rejoices in thee and gives thee royal welcome

Without thee life is a desert with no flower to bloom,

Without thee the sweetest of poetry finds no place in heart

Thou art the greatest messenger of love

And give thy message to everybody, “Love thy neighbour as thou lovest thy child,

And see in every person a latent child

And discard all hatred that corrodes the soul.”

What more sublime is there than thy living touch

What greater joy is there than thy winning smile?

For me thou art a Supreme Phenomenon

With none to surpass not even the father, nor the mother.

Saint Michael Vanquishing the Devil
“It is a fight the like of which no one can imagine” – From ‘A PERPETUAL FIGHT’. The Devil creeps into your dwelling like a thief to rob you and to destroy you.

A PERPETUAL FIGHT

It is a fight the like of which no one can imagine

A fight where the enemy has the edge

Using weapons having the sharpness of a sword

And having physical proportions of a devil though in human shape;

Mine are somewhat rusted nor can be wielded with any strength

As creeping old age makes the muscles lose their sheen

Still I garner all the strength to give a strong fight

To escape deadly blows and cruel fisticuffs

Though I survive I lie prostrate

The devil declares its victory with a bugle sound

Though it cannot kill as it pertains to the domain of God

It shouts loudly ” This is not enough

I will have a bigger fight

My plan is to make mincemeat of your body

It is to see your faculties are destroyed

Your memory power,

Your intellectual strength, your deep understanding of the past,

Your capacity to stand up against untruth and injustice

Will all disappear with one blow

You will be reduced to a level

Where man started his living millions of years back

As a cave dweller, as a hunter, eating raw meat or fruit

With little brain power barring raw instincts”

I get up overcoming fatigue and slumber

I realize I can yield no more ground if I have to survive

Without faculties I will be nowhere

They are my real wealth and shall remain with me

While I am alive

I may grow old in age but not in mind;

I challenge the devil for another fight

Though hands shake and legs shiver

The mind remains strong

It tells the body not to lose heart

As there are ways and means to keep the devil at bay;

The mind gets its strength from food received through secret parlour

Not known to anybody except myself

As the feed goes on it continues the fight

The forces well placed on either side

The fight goes on, it is a perpetual fight

It is part of the great mystery that is called human life.

Saint Michael-the-archangel
Old age creeps into body like a thief, like a devil to destroy you.”As there are ways and means to keep the devil at bay”. Faith is your secret weapon as the perpetual fight goes on.

WHERE CAN POETRY COME FROM ?

"Mind facing slow desertification, a creeping death,"
Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Where Can Poetry Come From? “Mind facing slow desertification, a creeping death,”

Where can poetry come from ?

Mind facing slow desertification, a creeping death,

Advancing age crippling faculties, putting them in bind

Myself feeling lonely and forlorn

There might be a patch of fertile land

Hugging the mind here and there

But who will sow the seed or water the plant

Withered plants strewn all over

Land turning more gravely as days pass by

Who can stop the process or reverse the trend

Man is no god and has to face the inevitable one day.

"But who will sow the seed or water the plant" when the mental landscape turns more gravely as days pass by.
Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream.. Where Can Poetry Come From? “But who will sow the seed or water the plant” when the mental landscape turns more gravely as days pass by.

The child is lucky that way

It too cannot stand erect, nor walk straight,

Falls to the ground each time with bruises all over,

But rescued always with a warm hug by the loving mother

While in bed the child is lulled to sleep with a lullaby

The child hugging mother’s bosom while asleep, its sheet anchor,

The child smiles wandering in a dreamland undisturbed

Producing low musical sounds, its poetry culled from the stellar regions,

But for me it is gloom all over

Desertification spreading, covering pores in the mind;

Is there no balm to restore calm to an agonising soul

And allow it to sprout new seeds of joy and hope ?

“How can poetry come ?” the mind persists

“Give courage, give confidence, give security” beams a voice from inside

Poetry will blossom then, like the triple stream

The mythical Saraswati

Bubbling and bursting, piercing the layers of the earth

To reach the surface

Spreading greenery all over the land.

The hope of a Spring of Water bursting, piercing the layers of the earth to reach the surface for poetry to blossom.
Welcome to Tarangini-The Flowing Stream. Where Can Poetry Come From? The hope of a Spring of Water bursting, piercing the layers of the earth to reach the surface for poetry to blossom.

WHOLE DUDE – WHOLE ARGUMENT

If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, the exchange of words could escalate into open warfare.
If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, the exchange of words, the battle of words, the Whole Argument could escalate into open warfare.

THE WHOLE ARGUMENT – THE BATTLE OF WORDS :

If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, the exchange of words, the battle of words, the Whole Argument could escalate into open warfare. Women while initiating conversation with men begin in the mode of interrogation. Women tend to open up with a sharp question. Some questions that are often asked are; Who are you?, What have you been doing?, Where have you been?, and What else? When questioned by a female partner, men tend to give straight, and short answers. Women never get impressed by brief and matter of fact statements. While men try to use a specific word to project a specific image associated with that word, women are adept in interpreting that word using an alternate image. Women’s zeal to prolong the conversation is often motivated by a desire to probe the man further. When the grilling begins, man relents, starts using words of endearment with his responses to defuse the situation and to take cover. Once the Battle of Words begins, women tend to remain focussed on the battle as long as they have the ammunition. Women ignore all words of endearment used by the men as they view it as a distraction and fear that they may not be able to accomplish their mission of winning the Battle of Words. The inhabitants of Venus would not stop until a total victory is firmly grasped. Man, specially the Most Auspicious One, not only is willing to accept a defeat but also lovingly chooses to get killed in the duel of words. Getting killed is Divine when the Battle of Words involves your female life partner.

THE BATTLE OF WORDS BETWEEN THE “FIRST COUPLE”  :

Parvati :  Kastvam?  =  Who are You?

Shiva  :  Shuuli  = The one with “TRIDENT”, the bearer of a Spear.

Parvati :  Mrugaya bhishajam  = ( Go and )  Find medicine.

Parvati pays no attention to the tradition that allows men to identify themselves by the personal weapon they carry. Lord Vishnu is often identified as “CHAKRI” for He uses “Sudarsan Chakra” as His personal weapon. People who worship Lord Shiva recognize Him as the bearer of “TRI SHUULA” or “TRIDENT”, a Spear. Parvati ignores the image attached to the word “Shuuli” and uses an alternate meaning attached to the word “Shuuli”. The word “Shuula” is a disease entity which is characterized by stomach ache. She interpreted “Shuuli” as a person with a disease entity called “Shuula” and hence She very mockingly suggested to Lord Shiva to go and find some medicine for His stomach ache.

Shiva  : Priye + Aham + Neela KantaH = My Most Beloved, I am the One with Dark Blue Neck.

Lord Shiva ignored Parvati’s mocking suggestion to find medicine, and very politely responds with the word “Neela KantaH” which is often used to describe Him. As per the legend, Lord Shiva had protected the world from being consumed by a dangerous poisonous gas called “Haala Hala” and had safely retained it in His throat and the deadly poison had imparted a dark blue color to His throat and contributed to His name and He is very popularly known as “Neela KantaH”.

"Neela KantaH" or Pavo cristatus, family Phasianidae, a large pheasant with a metallic blue green body; the male is celebrated for its beauty and is endowed with strong "CROWING" voice.
“Neela KantaH” or Pavo cristatus, family Phasianidae, a large pheasant with a metallic blue-green body; the male is celebrated for its beauty and is endowed with strong “CROWING” voice.

Parvati  :  Kekaam + Yekaam + Kuru =  ( You ) Shout loudly ( with Your “CROWING” voice ) once.

Parvati not only avoided identifying Lord Shiva as “Neela KantaH” but also She had challenged Him to give a demonstration of His voice. Birds are very often identified in nature by their unique bird calls or songs. The Indian Blue peacock utters a long mournful scream . Parvati is unwilling to look at Lord Shiva’s throat and identify Him as “Neela KantaH” and She would rather prefer to identify Him by the quality of the sound that comes from His throat.

PASUPATI, BULL - Bos indicus, Zebu, the Brahman Bull; family Bovidae.
PASUPATI, BULL – Bos indicus, Zebu, the Brahman Bull; family Bovidae.

Shiva  : PasupatiH  =  The Lord of all four legged creatures; the Lord of all living entities.

Lord Shiva is not provoked by Parvati’s suggestion to give a demonstration of His voice by giving a loud call. He very politely gives Her a different answer and identified Himself as the Lord of all creatures and He rides a Bull known as “Nandi”.

Parvati  : Naiva + drushtey + vishaaney = ( I am ) Not able to see the Horns.

Parvati made a literal interpretation of the word “Pasupati” which means a bull and responded to Lord Shiva with a bit of sarcasm and had commented that She is not able to find the Horns which could be a very characteristic feature of a bull.

Shiva  : O’ + Mughdhey + Sthaanuur  = O’ Sweet faced One, I am “Immovable”.

Lord Shiva is very patient, did not argue about the meaning of the word “Pasupati”, and tactfully changes the subject and speaks of His Personal Quality with which people identify Him. He is famously known for His Steadfastness and the word “Sthanuu” signifies this personality trait and character. He also demonstrates no signs of  irritation in His manner of speech and He very carefully chooses His words and responds to Parvati with a compliment about Her beautiful face which is full of charm and youthful exuberance.

Ficus religiosa or the Bodhi Tree is often worshipped in India. The tree is also described as "Sthaanuu" which means immovable.
Ficus religiosa or the Bodhi Tree is often worshipped in India. The tree is also described as “Sthaanuu” which means immovable.

Parvati  :   Na + vadati + taruH  =   A ‘tree’ cannot speak!!! ( How could a ‘tree’ talk??? )

Parvati shows no interest in evaluating Lord Shiva’s character and steadfastness and interpreted the word “Sthaanuu” in a very simple manner and further commented  that if the description of “Sthaanuu” is correct; She would not expect to hear  any words as trees are not endowed with the power of speech.

Shiva  : Jeeviteysa + ShivaayaaH  = ( I am ) Life Partner of Parvati.

Lord Shiva uses His final and ultimate weapon in this Battle of Words. The word ” SHIVA” also describes “Parvati”. By claiming that He is the Life Partner of Parvati, Lord Shiva intended to charm Her with His words and yet the same time give an appropriate response to Her question of “KASTVAM” with which She has initiated this Battle of Words.

Parvati  :  Gachha +  Atavyaam  =  Run to the forest.

The alternate meaning of the word “Shiva” is Jackal. Parvati who is fully focussed upon winning the Battle of Words is not in a mood to succumb to the magic of Lord Shiva’s endearing words. Parvati amply demonstrates Her deftness in interpreting words as per the circumstances of the Battle. Jackals are very timid animals. They simply run away when they are challenged by voice. Parvati taunts Lord Shiva and tells Him to run to the forest for He has called Himself a Jackal by using the word “Shiva” to describe His Identity.

The humble and shy Indian Jackal is also described as "SHIVA".
The humble and shy Indian Jackal is also described as “SHIVA”.

Iti Hatha Vachah paatu va Chandra ChuudaH  =  The Lord whose hairlocks are adorned by the Crescent shaped Moon, who is thus killed in the Battle of Words may protect me.

Lord Shiva- Shuuli, Neela kantaH, Pasupati, Sthaanuu, Chandra ChuudaH.
Lord Shiva- Shuuli, Neela kantaH, Pasupati, Sthaanuu, Chandra ChuudaH.

The Lord has chosen not to win the Battle of Words. Ordinary mortals should not even attempt to succeed in such a Battle of Words. Following the Lord’s example, man should choose to get killed in a Battle of Words and grant victory to the inhabitants of the planet of Venus. To concede defeat makes the argument, a Whole Argument.

Whole Dude – Whole Destiny

Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from the man, the Land has its own Destiny
Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from man, the Land has its own Destiny.

The Land of India or Bharata Varsha is identified as KARMA KSHETRA or KARMA BHUMI and is often personified as Bharat Mata or Mother India.

The Sanskrit word Karma describes the totality of a person’s actions in any one of the successive states of that person’s existence. The Law of Karma governs all action and its inevitable consequences on the doer. Because of this deep-rooted belief in the inevitability of consequences on the doer, the Land of Bharat or India is identified as Karma Kshetra or Karma Bhumi.

Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from the man, the Land has its own Destiny.
Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from man, the Land has its own Destiny.
Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from man, the Land has its own Destiny.

The concept of action or Karma is also applied to the actions performed by Mother Nature and the Indian tradition often attaches the names of human personalities to reflect upon their actions. The most important being the long journey of about 3,700 miles performed by the Indian Landmass about 40 to 50 million years ago leading to the formation of Himalaya Mountains from where several rivers flow down India providing sustenance to the denizens of India.

Whole Dude – Whole Destiny. Apart from man, Mother India, Bharat Mata has her own Destiny.

Whole Prayer – Blessings of Success

A Prayer to Lord Ganesha in the performance of all human actions that intend to promote the well-being of the performer or help in promoting the well-being of all others. It provides a very interesting concept about finding Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility in the performance of human actions by simply meditating upon this face which gives the mental composure and removes obstacles in performing actions. Sri Vakra Tunda Mahaa kaaya,

Koti Surya Sama Prabhaa,

Nir vighnam Kuru me Deva,

Subha karyeshu Sarvada.

I seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha in all of my actions that intend to promote my well-being or help in promoting the well-being of others.

While reflecting upon Lord Ganesha it is important to understand the ‘zoomorphic’ form represented in Indian Culture. He is popularly known as the God with Elephant’s head. There are two species of elephants. Elephas maximus is native to India and Southeastern Asia. Loxodonta africana, the second elephant species is known as the African elephant. The ears of the Indian elephant are considerably smaller than those of the African elephant which has large ears with a flatter head.Indian elephants are extensively used as ceremonial animals and are also widely drafted for a variety of purposes. African elephant is never used as a ceremonial animal and used as a draft animal to a very small extent. Lord Ganesha cannot be portrayed with the head of an African elephant. He cannot be depicted with two tusks. He has one tusk and it could only resemble the tusk of an Indian elephant. The long, flexible snout known as ‘trunk’ of Ganesha must always show a bend in its curvature and is never depicted straight and hence the hymn identifies Him as “Vakra Tunda.” Some European artists who had no clue about the differences between the two elephant species had depicted Lord Ganesha with the head of an African elephant. The Lord is connected to the Land of India and only the Indian elephant has the honor to represent His zoomorphic form.

Whole House – A House for God of Israel

Whole House – A House for God of Israel: Jacob’s Pillow-Pillar Stone marks the site as BethEl, the House of God.

JACOB’S DREAM AT BETHEL

The story of Jacob is described in the Book of Genesis, the first Book of Old Testament. He was the son of Issac, the grandson of Abraham, and the twin brother of Esau.He was named Jacob as he came out with his hand grasping his older twin brother Esau’s heel (Genesis 25:26).

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE PROMISE OF GOOD OLD AGE: GOD’S PROMISE OF GOOD OLD AGE WAS MADE TO ABRAHAM. ISAAC, THE SON OF ABRAHAM DIED AT 180 YEARS AGE AND HAD LIVED FOR FIVE ADDITIONAL YEARS AS COMPARED TO HIS FATHER. IN THIS PAINTING, ISSAC WAS GIVING HIS BLESSINGS TO JACOB AND HE WAS DECEIVED FOR HE BECAME BLIND ON ACCOUNT OF THE NATURAL AGING PROCESS.

Jacob received his older brother’s blessing from his father and then flees to Laban in Haran to escape from his brother’s anger. His dream at Bethel is narrated in Genesis, chapter 28, verses 10-17 :

Whole House – A House for God of Israel: Jacob’s Dream at Bethel (Genesis 28: 10-17)

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the LORD, and He said: “I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Issac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying….” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” Early the next morning Jacob took the stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called the place Bethel, though the city used to be called Luz. He had further taken a vow stating that the stone he had set up as a pillar would be God’s house.

Whole House – A House of God of Israel: Jacob’s Spiritual Struggle at Jabbok (Genesis 32:22-30)

Jacob was the father of the founders of the twelve tribes of Israel. Jacob was given the name of Israel after he withstood a spiritual struggle at Jabbok (Genesis 32:22-30). Jacob had literally wrestled with God who came down in the form of a man. The name Israel is derived from the words ‘Sara’ meaning To Struggle, Wrestle, and ‘El’ meaning God. El is one short form of ‘Elohim’, the name used for God.

THE HOUSE OF GOD AT MOUNT MORIAH

Whole House – A House for God of Israel: God set up Laws for the Israelites mostly regarding holiness and worship. The Old Testament Book of Leviticus, Chapter 16, verse 34 :”This is to be a lasting ordinance for you; Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites.” The Children of Jacob (the son of Issac, and grandson of Prophet Abraham) need a House for God of Israel.

In Judaism, Mount Moriah is also known as the ‘Temple Mount’, and is the most venerated as the holiest spot on Earth. After liberating Jews from a life of slavery in Egypt, at Mount Sinai, God enters into a ‘New Covenant’ and He had appeared in the form of fire before Moses and other elders.

Whole House – A House for God of Israel: Make Me a Sanctuary, a Tabernacle, a House, a Temple.

The Book of Exodus, Chapter 25, verses 8-9, God had asked the Jews: “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. Make the Tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you…” The Ark of the Covenant was where God manifested His presence on earth and the Ark went ahead of the Israelites wherever they traveled. The Ark was only housed in a tent for many long years and King David could only erect an altar for God (Book of 2 Samuel, chapter 24:25).

Whole House – A House for God of Israe: 1 Kings, Chapter 8, verse 13l

The opportunity to build a House for God in His Name was given to Solomon, the son of King David. Book of 1 Kings, Chapter 8, verse 13, Solomon declares: “I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.” The site selected by God for the establishment of the Holy Temple in His Name also is considered to be the spot where creation of world began, and Adam the first man was created here. Abraham brought his son Issac for sacrifice at this place. The Jewish tradition known as ‘Midrash’ also claimed that Jacob had a dream and had erected a monument and declared it as the House of Holy One. God had pushed that rock with His right foot and the rock had become the ‘Foundation Stone’, the ‘Corner Stone’, and is also known as the ‘Key Stone’ of Solomon’s First Temple. The Temple of God stands over a stone identified by Jacob as the ‘gate of heaven’. When Solomon dedicated this Temple to God in 957 B.C., God had entered His House in the form of a cloud.

GOD OF ISRAEL’S  DWELLING PLACE

Whole House – A House for God of Israel

Psalm 115, song 2-3 says:

Why do the nations say,

“Where is their God?”

Our God is in heaven;

He does whatever pleases Him.

Whole House – A House for God of Israel: “I have indeed built a magnificent Temple for you to dwell forever.” The remnants of Second Temple stand mutely at a place known as Gate of Heaven. The children of Israel need a House for their God.

A PICTURE OF INDIA’S GRIEF OVER JIHADIST ATTACKS IN MUMBAI

TERROR ATTACKS ON INDIA  :

Recent news reports are stating that the terror attacks on India have not seen its end and they are predicting the possibilities of more attacks similar to the Mumbai carnage on November 26, 2008. “India will continue to face a serious jihadist threat from Pakistan-based terrorist groups, and neither Indian nor U.S. policy is likely to reduce that threat in the near future”, said Angel Rabasa, lead author of the study and a senior Political Scientist with RAND, a non-profit think tank based in Santa Monica, California. According to RAND, the other extremist groups in Pakistan will find inspiration in the Mumbai attacks and there can be more attacks from groups with high body counts and symbolic targets.THE CONCEPT OF JIHAD  :  The term Jihad in Arabic means struggle and is often viewed as a religious duty. A person engaged in Jihad is called a ‘mujahid’, the plural is ‘mujahideen’. The Mumbai attackers identified themselves with the name of ‘Deccan Mujahideen’. The aim of Jihad includes the expansion and defense of the Islamic State and warfare against non-believers. Jihad ideology has historically inspired the conquest of non-Muslim population and the transformation of civil society which is viewed as corrupt, arrogant, and disobedient. The Holy Book of Quran, Surah 25, verse 52 states : “Therefore, do not obey the disbelievers, and strive against them with this, a great striving”. The objectives of armed warfare include uprooting unbelief and establishing supremacy of God, through Islam, in the world.”And fight them on until there is no tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah altogether and everywhere.”

THE HISTORY OF JIHAD IN INDIA  :

Sir Jadunath Sarkar, a historian, and former Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University had contended that several Muslim invaders waged a systematic Jihad against Indians. Sultan Mahamud of Ghazna(present day Ghazni city,Afghanistan) conducted more than twenty Jihadist attacks on North India between 1001 and 1027. In particular the records kept by al-Utbi, Sultan Ghazni’s secretary in the ‘Tarikh-i-Yamini’ document several episodes of bloody campaigns. Persian historian Ferishta records that Sultan Ghazni wants to “root out the worship of idols from the face of all Hindustan(India)”. He looked upon the destruction of temples as an act of Jihad. Mahamud Ghazni specifically directed his campaigns to temple towns of Nagarkot, Thanesar(1011), Mathura(1018), Kannauj(1019), Kalinjar(1023), and Somnath(1024). He had also destroyed temples at Varanasi, Ujjain, Maheshwar, Jwalamukhi, and Dwaraka. Mahmud Ghazni was of Turkic origin but had patronized the use of New Persian language and gave employment to writers such as al-Biruni, and Ferdowsi who gave detailed descriptions of the enormous booty and idols brought back to Ghazni city. Asaru-L-Bilad, a 13 th century geographer also described in great detail the destruction of Somnath. Apart from his regular troops, Mahmud Ghazni had assistance from 30,000 volunteer horsemen who had participated in the Jihad. To resist the attack on Somnath, Ghogha Rana at the age of 90 sacrificed himself and his clan. There are no census documents but after an analysis of all historical documents, historian K.S.Lal had estimated that about 2 million people died during Sultan Ghazni’s attacks on Indian temple towns.Similarly, Sikandar Lodhi of Delhi earned the epithet of ‘But Shikan’- the destroyer of idols. Babur the founder of Mughal empire in India in 1527 ordered a JIHAD against Rajputs at the battle of KHANUA. He had encouraged his men to fight the infidels and asked them to become either a Ghazi(soldier of Islam) or a Shaheed(Martyr of Islam). The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb waged Jihad against Hindus as well as Shia Muslims whom he identified as heterodox. In South India, the Hindu kingdom of Vijaynagar came under repeated attacks of annual Jihad which had started in 1501 and each attack included destruction of temples. In the historical Third Battle of Panipat(January 1761), Ahmad Shah Abdali declared a Jihad against the Marathas. Estimates from historical documents indicate that about 60 to 80 million people in India died between 1000 and 1525 CE.INDIA’S RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENSE  : Indian traditions have clearly established the rules of warfare. A ‘JUST WAR’ or ‘DHARMA YUDDHA’ is a duty and is an obligation of the Ruler. We believe in the principles of protecting all non-combatants. They should not be touched or harmed in any manner. We recognize the right of self-protection, self-defense, and self-preservation. When an enemy attacks you, it would be an act of cowardice if the enemy is not engaged in a battle. In the context of defending people against Jihadist attacks, we are not only defending our territory, our property, our personal lives but also we are defending our right to think for ourselves and cherish the ideas and values that are important to our existence. We have a fundamental right to worship as we please and safeguard the traditional way of life. Since Jihadist attack is actually a war against our fundamental right to practice religion, the propagation of ideas of Jihadist warfare should be prohibited and violators should be punished. The term Self-Defense means defense of one’s rights, beliefs, and existence. The Right to defend oneself with whatever force is reasonably necessary against actual or threatened violence is universally recognized by Law. Self-Defense is a natural, inborn instinct. A National Entity has a Right and also a Duty to defend itself from attacks sponsored by an enemy or an Enemy State. The act of Self-Defense could be expressed in several different forms; a retaliation involving the use of military force, economic and trade sanctions, diplomatic sanctions, imposing travel restrictions, and other punitive or defensive actions as needed.

YAGNA, A VEDIC RITUAL OF SACRIFICE-‘HOTREE’ OR ‘YAGNA PERFORMER’ OFFERS ‘HAVIS’ TO FIRE (LORD AGNI)

THE UNIVERSE AS GOD’S BODY

The word ‘omnipresent’ is defined as present everywhere at the same time. The property of being present everywhere is one of the Divine attributes. In western theism it has attracted less attention and the idea of ‘omnipresence’ is explained in a bit unclear way. In Judeo-Christian, and Islamic Cultures, God is not immersed in the substance of creation even though He is able to interact with it as He chooses. They tend to the view that God is in “HEAVEN”, and that God is above and outside of all creation. They explain ‘omnipresence’ in terms of His ‘ESSENCE’ as He is present to all as the cause of their being, His ‘POWER’ as all things are subject to His power, and His ‘KNOWLEDGE’ as He constantly watches all that goes on in the world and all things are bare and open to His eyes and hence He is naturally present in every aspect of the natural order. Whereas Indian thinkers tend to believe that a thing is said to be substantially or essentially in that place in which its substance is. Hence, people in the Land of India traditionally hold the view that God is related to the universe as though it is His body. The entire creation is seen as a manifestation of the Supreme Person. The theory of transcendent(exists apart from material universe) and immanent(actually present throughout the material universe)’omnipresence’ explains the meaning of the word ‘BRAHMAN’, the Ultimate Reality. Indian people reflect this belief in their worship of creation, and the idea that God is immersed in the substance of His creation could be recognized as a core value, the foundation upon which the Cultural traditions of India are established over thousands of years of their continued existence. The rituals of temple worship and the Vedic rituals of Yagna always include aspects of Worship of Creation and the Scriptures reveal that the Gods also Worship Creation to the same extent and the Indian way of life could be stated as a quest for unity with the Divine.

A HYMN TO SEEK PROTECTION FROM THE CREATOR

Yaa srushti srashtu raadyaa vahiti vidhihutam, yaa havi ryaacha hotree

Ye dvey kaalam vidhatta, sruti vishaya gunaa, Yaa sthithaa vyaapya viswavam

Yaa maa hu sarva bhuta prakriti riti, Ya Yaa praanina praanavanta

Pratyakshaabhi prasanna stanubhi ravatu Vastaabhi rashtaabhi reesa.

We seek the protection of God who physically manifests Himself with the eight bodies of

1. WATER- Lord VARUNA who was created prior to the creation of all other creation(of living entities).

2. FIRE- Lord Agni who receives ‘HAVIS’, the oblations or offerings given to God.

3. HOTREE- the person who is performing ‘YAGNA’, the Vedic ritual of sacrifice.

4. SUN- Lord Surya, the marker of day time.

5. MOON- Lord Chandra, the marker of night-time.

6. SKY- or ETHER which helps in the propagation of SOUND and is spread across the entire universe.

7.EARTH- Mother Earth, Goddess Bhu Devi, who bears the burden of harboring all living entities.

8. WIND- Lord VAYU who is the ‘Breath of life'(or PRANA) of all living entities that breathe.

THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT TO WORSHIP CREATION

The act of Creation Worship defines Indian Identity. All other Cultural Traditions that are existing in India proceed from this foundational principle. Indians seek their well-being, prosperity, happiness and eventually salvation through acts of worship. The foreign forces that occupied and ruled India tried hard to take away this Right to Worship as per our belief that God is immanent. We need to recognize the Right to Worship Creation as a Fundamental Right. Citizens while they are free to profess their religion , should not be free to ‘PROPAGATE’ a religion or idea which basically interferes with a Fundamental Right. No person could have a Fundamental Right to PROPAGATE at the expense of denying and devaluing other core values. To that extent, we should seek an amendment to PART III, Article 25 of the Constitution of India which deals with Freedom of Religion. The Constitution of India must recognize the Worship of Creation as a Foundational Principle of the Land of India and hence should be considered a Fundamental Right and should prohibit PROPAGATION of religion which infringes upon this Core Value. Such an amendment is vital to defend the Freedom of Religion as religious doctrines of Islam and Christianity are opposed to the idea of divinity of all created objects. These religious faiths divide humanity into two categories; the believers, and the non-believers. They also further express the claim that they possess a divine sanction to punish or modify the beliefs of the non-believers. In the global community, the adherents of Hindu religious faith are only a minority and they need special protection to defend the Right to Freedom of Religion.

Whole Dude – Whole Worship: The Lord God or the Principal Presiding deity at Malibu Hindu Temple is known as Lord Venkateshwara who represents the physical manifestation of the Supreme Being, Lord Vishnu in the material realm. Since the LORD is present in this terrestrial realm, He knows the Brahman Spirit that is in Prison.
