I describe the Seven Dimensions of Man to define the phrase Whole Man, or Whole Person, or Whole Dude. These dimensions are 1. Man, the Physical Being with cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems, 2. Man, the Mental Being with thoughts, feelings, and moods, 3. Man, the Social Being, in which the Singularity of Man, in reality, represents a vast biological or biotic community of interacting individual, independent cells apart from trillions of organisms, 4. Man, the Moral Being who can choose good or evil actions and make the distinction between right and wrong in the performance of his living activities, 5. Man, the Spiritual Being who desires Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility in his Living Experience, 6. Man, the Created Being who has no choice other than that of existing as an Individual with Individuality, and 7. Man, the Rational Being who accounts for the Subjective and Objective Reality of his Physical Existence in the Natural World.

Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Wednesday, October 25, 2018, said the only hope to create a more peaceful future is through a more holistic education in which knowledge of materialistic values, physical and emotional health are integrated.

Interacting with 28 youth peace builders from 14 countries of conflict, he said the younger generations have the opportunity to contribute to a happier world.

He lamented the increasing use of violence and advocated for a greater role of youth and education in the transformation towards peace.

He stressed his conviction that education is the key to changing people’s way of thinking. “The hygiene of physical is already in our education and now we need to include hygiene of emotion in a secular education system,” he said. He argued that relying on the religious system of moral won’t appeal to everyone. He expressed his profound admiration for the ancient Indian knowledge for its contribution toward the understanding of the human mind and the imbibing of practices to tackle negative emotions. He said a new curriculum combining the ancient Indian knowledge which focuses on inner peace and wisdom with a modern education that brings physical comfort, is being implemented in various educational institutes across the country.

“If you want inner peace, you should come to India. Come here and study modern education and ancient knowledge, but if you want more dollars, then you should go to the US or Europe,” he said. He urged for a greater sense of oneness and mutual understanding during his conversation and said 7 billion human beings have to coexist on this planet.

“Future of the east, west and north and south depend on each other. The national boundary is not so relevant given the new problems such as global warming and climate change. As human brothers and sisters, we have this brilliant intelligence and on top of that, we share an innate compassionate nature. As you witness more and more suffering, use it as an opportunity to strengthen your determination and willpower,” Dalai Lama said.

This is the third annual dialogue with youth peace-builders drawn from countries across Africa, the Middle East and Asia and this year’s youth leaders came from 14 countries, including Syria, Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Iraq, Somalia, Colombia, Nigeria and seven others.

Whole Individualism = Molecular Individualism + Law of Individuality

Human Identity and Individuality is defined by the Doctrine of Molecular Individualism

In 1965, while Whole Dude was a student of Human Anatomy at Kurnool Medical College, they had the opportunity to know Dr. J. C. B. Grant (1886-1973), the author of Grant’s Atlas of Anatomy. The 5th Edition of his Atlas was published in 1962 and was available in India in their Medical College Library.

Born in Loanhead (south of Edinburgh) in 1886, Grant studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School and graduated with an M.B., Ch.B. degree in 1908. While at Edinburgh, he worked under the renowned anatomist Daniel John Cunningham. Grant became a decorated serviceman of the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War before moving to Canada. He established himself as an ‘anatomist extraordinary’ at the University of Toronto, publishing three textbooks that form the basis of Grant’s Anatomy. The textbooks are still used in anatomy classes today, and made unforgettable memories for those who found themselves in his classes nearly a century ago. One of Grant’s many accomplishments was establishing a division of histology within the department.

As a medical student, Whole Dude used Grant’s Atlas of Anatomy, the seminal work of Scottish-born Dr. John Charles Boileau Grant, who would become the chair of Anatomy at the University of Toronto in 1930 and retired in 1965.

The Grant’s Atlas of Anatomy (1943) is used to train thousands of medical students around the world. Grant came to University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine from University of Manitoba (and previously Edinburgh), and was Chair of the Department of Anatomy there from 1930 to 1965. Although he is best known for this famous atlas, his research and teaching also included biological anthropology, as evidenced by such work as Anthropometry of the Cree and Saulteaux Indians in Northeastern Manitoba (Archaeological Survey of Canada 1929). The human skeletal collection he formed, the “J.C.B. Grant Collection,” is still a core collection for human osteology in the Department of Anthropology at University of Toronto. He is also remembered in the Grant’s Museum at the Medical Sciences Building at the University of Toronto. This museum, with its displays of anatomical specimens, many of which were dissected by Grant himself, continues to be used in an active learning environment by more than 1000 students each year.

Students continue to use Grant’s textbooks today, and for the more artistic anatomist there’s even a Grant’s Anatomy Coloring Book, published in 2018.

At the University of Toronto, Dr.McMurrich, Chair of Anatomy was succeeded as chairman in 1930 by Dr. John Charles Boileau Grant. Dr. Grant wrote three text books, of which “An Atlas of Anatomy” (published in 1943) rapidly gained international prominence and is still, one of the most widely used anatomical atlases in the world. It is now known as “Grant’s Atlas of Anatomy” and is in its tenth edition. The atlas was based on a series of elegant dissections done either by Grant or by others under his supervision. Many of these dissections are currently housed in Grant’s Museum at the University of Toronto.

Cunningham’s Manual of Practical Anatomy has provided Whole Dude the learning tools to know and understand Man’s External and Internal Reality and its Identity as described by Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Organ Systems.

Daniel John Cunningham was born on 15 April 1850 in Scotland. After his initial schooling at his home town, Crieff, he took up the study of medicine at the University of Edinburgh and passed with honours. He is best known for the excellent series of dissection manuals, namely Cunningham’s Dissection Manuals. Cunningham’s Manual of Practical Anatomy has provided Whole Dude the learning tools to know and understand Man’s External and Internal Reality and its Identity as described by Cells, Tissues, Organs, and Organ Systems.

Whole Dude learned about the human body while dissecting the body in a systematic manner. The Manual of Practical Anatomy which guides us through this entire process was published in England. The author Dr. Daniel John Cunningham prepared the Manual while dissecting cadavers of British or Irish citizens. He had never encountered cadavers of Indian citizens. At Kurnool Medical College, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, India, where Whole Dude was a student, the Department of Anatomy obtains dead bodies from  Government General Hospital Kurnool and most of the deceased are the poor, and often the illiterate people of that region. None of the deceased had the chance to know this man called Cunningham and Cunningham had no knowledge about the existence of these people who arrive on our dissection tables. But, as the dissection of the human body proceeds, inch, by inch, we recognize the anatomical parts as described by Cunningham. The manual also lists some anatomical variations and we very often exchange information between various dissection tables and recognize the variations mentioned. The dissections also involve slicing the organs and studying them, both macroscopically, and microscopically. We did not miss any part of the human body. So what is the Identity of this Human Person? How does the living Human organism maintains its Identity and Individuality? Apart from the Cultural Traditions of India, several Schools of Religious Thought claim that the Human Individual and its Identity is represented by Human Soul. Where does this soul exist in the human body? What is the location if the soul is present in the living person? Does man have a soul?

THE WHOLE DUDE DOCTRINE OF MOLECULAR INDIVIDUALISM. MAN’S EXISTENCE IS DEFENDED BY MOLECULES CALLED ANTIBODIES WHICH CAN RECOGNIZE OR SEPARATE SELF AND NON-SELF PROTEIN MOLECULES.

The man exists in the physical world for his existence is essentially supported by Unity or ‘Eikyata’ with ‘Prabhu’, or LORD God Creator. It is of great importance to note that man’s existence involves use of a creative mechanism that deploys unique molecules that establish man’s physical identity on a molecular basis. Man’s existence is ‘Conditioned’ for he has no choice other than that of existing as an Individual with Individuality. This Individualistic Nature of Existence is defended by Immune System that deploys unique molecules called Antibodies. Man’s existence is defended by a creative mechanism that involves deployment of Antibody molecules that distinguish or separate Self and Non-Self. Modern Science has provided tools to visually examine large molecules and experimentally verify individualistic variations in their behavior. For this reason, we have to know each man as a Specific Individual with Individuality.

Knowing man’s identity and individuality demands understanding of molecules that defend human existence. For example, each antibody molecule bears two identical binding sites consisting of six b-loops.

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism: At room temperature atoms and molecules in the air move about at breakneck speed. In order for them to be studied, they need to be slowed down or chilled. During the 1980s Steven Chu, Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, and William Phillips developed different methods for this. When atoms come in contact with light particles with fixed energies, photons, their movement is affected as if they had been bumped. With the aid of laser light from different directions and adjustment of the photon’s energy for Doppler effects, the atoms can be cooled to extremely low temperatures and captured in a trap.

Nobel Laureate, Dr. Steven Chu (United States Secretary of Energy), former Professor of Physics and Applied Physics, Stanford University has described that molecules can exhibit a surprising degree of individuality. In experiments that examine the physical behavior of single molecules, Stanford researchers have discovered that identical polymers; long, flexible, spaghetti-like molecules that are found in everything from plastics to living cells;  UNFOLD in a variety of ways even when exposed to the same experimental conditions. Dr. Chu had stated : “We discovered it because we have developed the ability to visualize and manipulate single molecules.” He had further observed that, “Only by looking at individual animals you can get a true sense of  diversity of species.” Dr. Chu researched Biological Physics and Polymer Physics. Dr. Chu’s research in Polymer Physics made use of individual molecules of DNA to study Polymer Dynamics.

We define our identity in the natural world and defend our existence by deploying unique protein molecules. Our genetic code determines the protein molecules that we use. The genetic code is made up of  DNA strands that express Molecular Individualism. It arises from exceedingly small differences in the initial configuration of the polymer.

Nobel Prize for Medicine Goes to Cancer Therapy

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. The Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’. 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine. My Thoughts on the Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence.

American James Allison and Japan’s Tasuku Honjo have won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Medicine for a pioneering approach to cancer treatment.

The Nobel committee said the pair’s research — which harnesses the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells — amounted to a “landmark in our fight against cancer.” The approach, known as immune checkpoint theory, had “revolutionized cancer treatment and has fundamentally changed the way we view how cancer can be managed,” the committee said.

Two scientists who discovered how to fight cancer using the body’s immune system have won the 2018 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine.

The work, by Professor James P Allison from the US and Professor Tasuku Honjo from Japan, has led to treatments for advanced, deadly skin cancer.

Immune checkpoint therapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, said the prize-giving Swedish Academy.

Experts say it has proved to be “strikingly effective”.

Prof Allison, of the University of Texas, and Prof Honjo, of Kyoto University, will share the Nobel prize sum of nine million Swedish kronor – about $1.01 million or 870,000 euros.

Accepting the prize, Tasuku Honjo told reporters: “I want to continue my research … so that this immune therapy will save more cancer patients than ever.”

Prof Allison said: “It’s a great, emotional privilege to meet cancer patients who’ve been successfully treated with immune checkpoint blockade. They are living proof of the power of basic science, of following our urge to learn and to understand how things work.”

Treating the untreatable

Our immune system protects us from disease, but it has built-in safeguards to stop it from attacking our own tissue.

Some cancers can take advantage of those “brakes” and dodge the attack too.

Allison and Honjo, now both in their 70s, discovered a way to unleash our immune cells to attack tumors by turning off proteins that put the brakes on.

And that led to the development of new drugs which now offer hope to patients with advanced and previously untreatable cancer.

Immune checkpoint therapy is being used by the NHS to treat people with the most serious form of skin cancer, melanoma.

It doesn’t work for everyone, but for some patients it appears to have worked incredibly well, getting rid of the tumor entirely, even after it had started to spread around the body.

Such remarkable results had never been seen before for patients like these.

Doctors have also been using the treatment to help some people with advanced lung cancer.

Prof Charles Swanton, from Cancer Research UK, congratulated the prize winners, saying: “Thanks to this groundbreaking work, our own immune system’s innate power against cancer has been realized and harnessed into treatments that continue to save the lives of patients. For cancers such as advanced melanoma, lung, and kidney, these immune-boosting drugs have transformed the outlook for many patients who had run out of options.

“The booming field of immunotherapy that these discoveries have precipitated is still relatively in its infancy, so it’s exciting to consider how this research will progress in the future and what new opportunities will arise.”

My thoughts on the Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: 2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine. My Thoughts on the Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence.

The Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence. Man’s Unity with Lord God Creator can be learned from the study of Immunology. Each Antibody molecule bears two identical binding sites consisting of six b-Loops.

My ‘Theory of Man’ describes the Man as a Created Being. Man’s physical existence in the natural world in good health or ill-health always demands Man’s Unity (Sanskrit. Asmi) with Lord God Creator (Sanskrit. Brahman) for Man is constituted as a Spiritual Being. Man, the Rational Being is inclined to investigate the basis for the reality of his own existence. The reasoning for my statements is derived from the study of Immunology.

The Defense of Human Existence

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: The Study of Immune System helps in understanding the Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence.

THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR THE DEFENSE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE. NATURE OF HUMAN IDENTITY AND INDIVIDUALITY IS REVEALED BY HUMAN DEFENSE MECHANISMS.

An individual exists in the natural world by his biological abilities to defend his continued existence as an independent entity. This essay explores the physiological aspects of human existence and the defensive mechanisms that sustain this existence and the molecules which define and shape our Individualism. The term immunity describes the natural defensive mechanisms that give an individual the ability to recognize foreign proteins and foreign substances and neutralize or degrade them with or without injury to the individual’s own tissues. Immunology is the branch of science concerned with the body’s response to foreign agents and substances.

The Functions of the Immune System

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: The Functions of the Immune System relate to the role played by unique protein molecules in the Defense of Human Existence.

THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR THE DEFENSE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE. ORGANS, CELLS, AND PROTEIN MOLECULES OF IMMUNE SYSTEM REPRESENT A CREATIVE MECHANISM TO OPPOSE, NEUTRALIZE, AND DESTROY FOREIGN INVADERS.

The immune system responds to invasion by the foreign organisms and their toxic products. This immune response is also described as active immunity. In the natural world, an infant is defended by molecules transferred passively across the placenta from the mother’s circulation during the fetal stage of development. The infant after birth may also receive passively protein molecules from mother when breastfed. This passive immunity defends the baby for several months and the baby further survives by developing its own immune system. Another major function of the immune system is the removal of damaged or dying cells. The immune system is also able to recognize and eliminate abnormal or mutant cells that frequently arise within the body. Using a system that is described as immune surveillance, the body recognizes and disposes of such abnormal cells which could result in the incidence of certain types of cancer. The immune system plays a vital role in protecting the body from bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites and helps to prevent certain types of cancer.

The immune system is very important and it is also very sensitive. The system’s very ability to recognize foreign substances may often result in undesirable reactions. Millions of people suffer on account of hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to fairly harmless substances present in the environment. Many individuals suffer on account of their sensitivity to proteins found in the foods such as milk, eggs, fish, wheat (gluten), and nuts that we consume. Sometimes, the immune system is misdirected and initiates an immune response against the body’s own cells or tissues producing a condition known as an autoimmune disease. While an immune system could cause some problems, we take full advantage of the system to defend ourselves from serious infectious diseases such as smallpox, polio, rabies, diphtheria, whooping-cough, measles, rubella, mumps, tetanus, typhoid, cholera, tuberculosis, hepatitis B, influenza and others by using vaccines and inoculations. Millions of lives are protected by routine use of vaccines and inoculations which help the body to become resistant to these infectious agents. We also use foreign proteins to protect the lives of people in times of a severe life-threatening crisis. We use blood, plasma, and sera (containing immunoglobulins secreted by animals) with utmost care to tide over an emergency. I used foreign immunoglobulins to treat snakebite victims and tetanus cases. The foreign proteins elicit a minor immune response and the situation is carefully monitored.

By being careless and reckless, and by polluting our food, water, air, and soil with dangerous chemicals, we damage our very sensitive immune system and this is contributing to a higher incidence of immune-related health problems in the population.

Types of Immune Response

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: Man’s Intelligence, mental work, and mental memory are not the “First Line of Defense.”

The Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence: The Fundamental Basis of Human Existence is not that of Man’s Intelligence, Mental Memory and Mental Functions.

The immune system defends human existence with a variety of cells and by the protein molecules known as immunoglobulins or antibodies produced by the immune function capable cells. The ability to recognize foreignness, specificity of the response, and the memory of the prior immune response are the key characteristics of immune defense. The immune system must be able to recognize the foreign agents and foreign materials in order to locate and destroy them. Specificity means that immunity to one foreign substance or organism does not provide resistance to another type of organism. Memory is the ability of the individual to develop an accelerated, enhanced, and long-lasting immunity after the initial attack by an infectious disease. The memory function described in Immunology should not be confused with the mental faculty called Memory. The body defends itself through two types of mechanisms which work together to protect our existence. 1. Humoral Immunity:- this involves the production of protein molecules described as immunoglobulins or antibodies.2. Cell-mediated Immunity:- It does not involve secretion of antibodies but requires direct physical contact with the foreign substance or agent. It also involves the use of other protein molecules which assist in the defense mechanisms.

Humoral Immunity

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: The recognition of Self and Non-Self at the molecular level is the fundamental basis for human existence.

THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR DEFENSE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE: HUMORAL IMMUNITY INVOLVES DEPLOYMENT OF UNIQUE PROTEIN MOLECULES TO COUNTERACT WITH FOREIGN PROTEIN MOLECULES.

The cells known as Lymphocytes or B cells are produced in the bone marrow and circulate in our blood and are distributed to the various lymphoid tissues in the body, such as the lymph nodes, spleen, tonsils, and Peyer’s Patches (Lymphoid Follicles) that line the small intestine. When stimulated by an infectious organism, production of lymphocytes increases and the lymphocytes are carried to the site of infection. Depending upon the site of infection, the lymph nodes of that region often swell up and are found packed with lymphocytes. The B cells produce chemical substances known as antibodies. These are protein molecules which are specifically generated against specific organisms. The foreign substance is described as antigen. The antibodies that are generated recognize their antigens with high affinity and extreme selectivity. The interaction of an antigen with its specific antibody involves only small areas on the antigen’s surface; these areas are known as antigenic determinants. Protein molecules are very potent antigens as they have several antigenic determinants. Many carbohydrates are also antigenic because they have antigenic determinants. The antibodies circulate in the blood. The simplest, most prevalent means by which the immune system defends the body against bacteria and viruses is by a combination of a specific antibody with the antigenic determinants on the surface of the invading organism. This interaction between antibodies and antigens produces an aggregate of cells called as an agglutination. The body has wandering scavenger cells known as Macrophages. The clumps of agglutinated cells are engulfed and digested by the macrophages. Antibodies also bind to toxic molecules given off by invading microorganisms and this reaction produces large, insoluble aggregates known as precipitates. These precipitates are also removed by macrophages. The virus after entering the body survives by its ability to invade or enter cells. Antibodies prevent the ability of the virus to infect cells by covering up and blocking the attachment sites of the virus.

Cell-Mediated Immunity

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: Immunity and Immune Response involves the deployment of unique protein molecules.

THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR THE DEFENSE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE: INTERACTION OF CELLS AND UNIQUE PROTEIN MOLECULES OF IMMUNE SYSTEM DEFINES MAN’S IDENTITY ON MOLECULAR BASIS.

There is another distinct type of Lymphocytes known as T lymphocytes or T cells. T cells originate in the THYMUS and become localized in lymphoid organs. The immunity associated with T cells does not involve secretion of antibodies but through their direct contact with their targets or by the effects of secreted molecules known as lymphokines which help other cells to make the direct contact. There are four kinds of T cells. 1. The cytotoxic T cells
or Natural Killer cells or NK cells defend the body by destroying infected, foreign or cancerous cells. The other three kinds of T cells regulate immune responses by secreting messenger proteins known as lymphokines. 2. Helper T cells enable the other T cells and most B cells to perform their functions. The Helper T cells are destroyed by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients resulting in a depressed immune response that allows infection by a variety of microorganisms and the growth of some types of cancerous tumors. AIDS patients are very vulnerable to fatal infections. 3. Suppressor T cells dampen the immune response of the B and T cells. 4. The fourth kind of T cell is involved in certain kinds of hypersensitivity reactions. In a normal healthy individual, there is a balanced ratio of these four kinds of T cells to provide an efficient immune system for defense against all foreign substances. Macrophages and White blood cells known as neutrophils have the ability to engulf and digest particulate matter by the process of phagocytosis. They eliminate many foreign organisms and particulate materials that enter the body. The ability of NK cells to kill or destroy some cancerous or tumor cells is enhanced by two lymphokines known as gamma interferon and interleukin-1. Another lymphokine known as interleukin-2 activates the Lymphokine Activated Killer Cells or LAK cells which also have the ability to kill a variety of human tumor cells. Activated T cells also secrete a lymphokine known as Transfer Factor which is able to cause normal lymphocytes to release lymphokines or otherwise become activated and thus to destroy other cells. Transfer Factor stimulates the lymphocytes to develop normal immunity.

The Cytotoxic T cells destroy other cells by interacting with antigens present on the surfaces of the cell. They are involved in the attacks on tissues and organs grafted or introduced into the body, viral antigens found on infected cells and on chemicals that have entered the body and found attached to cells. The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: Identity and Individuality are determined by unique protein molecules of the human body.

THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR THE DEFENSE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE: ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION AND IMMUNOLOGY. MOLECULES OF HISTOCOMPATIBILITY LEUKOCYTE ANTIGEN (HLA) SYSTEM

T cells are involved in the rejection of transplanted tissues and organs. The chances of successful organ transplantation are improved by carefully matching the tissue or Histocompatibility Leukocyte Antigens known as the HLA system of the donor with those of the recipient. The protein molecules of the HLA Complex establish the identity of our body, its tissues, and various organs. They work to preserve the identity of the individual and to exclude the introduction or grafting of foreign material into the body. Even after careful matching, and selection of suitable donors, transplanted tissues or organs are usually maintained by using drugs that cause immunosuppression by which the normal immune response of the recipient against the donated organ is prevented.

Biological Existence

A normal, healthy immune system is vital to defend our biological existence. Immunodeficiency diseases, depressed or compromised immune system conditions such as associated with corticosteroid therapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or exposure to certain types of toxic chemicals, and autoimmune diseases impose a heavy burden and threaten our existence. Medical interventions and treatment may help us but the quality of life is invariably compromised. A functioning immune system is important to defend our existence.

Molecular Individualism

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’: Immunology helps in understanding the Molecular Basis for Man’s Identity and Individuality.

The Molecular Basis for the Defense of Human Existence: Man exists as Individual with Individuality as his existence involves defensive mechanisms operated by independent, individual cells, and protein molecules which exhibit Cellular Autonomy. The cell is the lowest common denominator of all life. While the cell is functionally independent or autonomous or self-governing, it displays the abilities characterized by Mutal Assistance, Cooperation, Tolerance, and Functional Subservience to provide some benefit to the Individual who lives in the physical world.

2018 Nobel Prize for Medicine will help us to develop a ‘Theory of Man’ by the study of unique protein molecules that play an important role in the defense of human survival. The Physical Being called Man needs the support of Spirit, Soul, or a Divine Agency to bring Unity between the cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems providing the structural and functional basis for Man’s existence.

The Whole Dude Doctrine of Molecular Individualism. Study of Antibody Molecules will help in understanding the concept of ‘Molecular Individualism’. The Doctrine of Individualism. The Man has no choice other than that of existing as an Individual with Individuality. His genome is unique and one of its own kind.

Whole Medicine – The concept of Whole Person in the defense of Whole Health

The Theory of Health demands a Theory of Man:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - HOLISTIC MEDICINE: THE DEFINITION OF WHOLE PERSON. 1. CONSCIOUS BEING, 2. PHYSICAL BEING, 3. MENTAL BEING, 4. SOCIAL BEING, 5. MORAL BEING, and 6. SPIRITUAL BEING. This entire Human Organism is derived from a Single, Fertilized Egg Cell.

The Concept of Whole Medicine to address the problems of Mental Health

The Concept of Whole Medicine

I define the phrase “Whole Medicine” as a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of Man’s Well-Being in relation to health and disease while the man exists as a Created Being.

Yes indeed, Life is Complicated. The complexity of Life includes not only the complicated problems of shopping for healthy foods but also the problems of shopping for Wholesome Health Care.

Spirituality Science – The Art of Medicine

The Concept of Whole Medicine to address the problems of Whole Health. Spirituality Science – The Art of Medicine

The Art of Medicine in its essence is a spiritual practice. It aims to restore the experience of Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility in the living condition of the Man. The fundamental concepts of Medical Theory reflect the Philosophy of Nature and of Man. The term Physician describes the person who practices ‘The Art of Medicine’. This term is derived from the medieval English word ‘Physic’ (Latin. physica; Greek. physike which means nature) which is used to describe Natural Science, Medicine, and Nature. This archaic usage of the English word “Physic” as the name for the art, science, practice and profession of Healing suggests what the word’s Greek root signifies, namely that the physician is a student of Nature.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ART OF MEDICINE: Hippocrates, the Greek physician(c.460 - 377 B.C.), the Father of Medicine stated that, The Art of Medicine consists in three things, 1. The Disease, 2. The Patient, and 3. The Physician.
The Art of Medicine: Hippocrates, the Greek physician (c.460 – 377 B.C.), the Father of Medicine states, The Art of Medicine consists in three things, 1. The Disease, 2. The Patient, and 3. The Physician.

Natural Science provides systematized knowledge of the physical world and its branches include Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics, and Geology. The Faculty of Medicine represents Biological Sciences that are concerned with knowledge bearing on the relation of man to nature. Medical Science as a Natural Science must be concerned with the following  two questions:

1. What is the Status of Man in Nature?

2. What is the true or real nature of Man?

The first question deals with man’s relationship with the physical world in which man exists. The physical world represents the total of all things in Time and Space or the entire physical universe. The term Nature includes the Power, Force, and Laws that regulate or operate in the physical world. In Biology, the Theory of Evolution proposes a view about the origin of species and it describes that things in Nature change under the influence of Time. It opposes various cultural, and religious beliefs about the origin of man and his Status as a Created Being. The second question is about the essential characteristics or qualities that makes or describes man’s essence as a Human Being. The nature of man deals with the inborn character, innate disposition, and inherent tendencies of the Whole Person and it includes the instincts, desires, appetites, drives etc., of the Person apart from the vital functions of specialized organs. Man’s nature could be detected from the activities of the human organism and from the forces that operate and influence these activities.

The Medical Theory – Atomism, Mechanism vs Spiritualism:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ART OF MEDICINE: GALEN, CLADIUS GALENUS(c. 130 - c.200 A.D.), Greek physician who served the Roman Emperors provided a synthesis of the Medicine of the ancient Greek world. In his view, "The true Art of Medicine borrows its method from Nature's Art."

There is tremendous increase in our knowledge of the specific diseases and man developed a vast store of well-tested remedies and still the problems of medical practice essentially remain the same. According to Galen, the Art of Healing consists in imitating the health-giving and healing powers of nature itself.

The Concept of Whole Medicine to address the problems of Whole Health. Spirituality Science – The Art of Medicine

Galen thinks of human body as an organic unity and not as a simple aggregation of atoms or a system of interlocking parts. Galen opposes the views of Atomism, or Mechanism that views the human body as a mechanical assembly of tiny, individual parts. In Galen’s view, Nature works not by the external impact of part upon part, but by its faculties or powers for the performance of natural functions and the production of natural effects. “Nature is not posterior to the corpuscles (small, constituent parts), but a long way prior to them…” writes Galen. “Therefore it is nature which puts together the bodies of both plants and animals; and this she does by virtue of certain faculties which she possesses – these being on the one hand, attractive and assimilative of what is appropriate, and on the other, expulsive of what is foreign. Further, she skillfully moulds everything during the stage of genesis; and she also provides for the creatures after birth employing her other faculties again.”

The Concept of Whole Medicine to address the problems of Whole Health. Spirituality Science – The Art of Medicine

Galen calls Nature the Artist for it produces effects according to its powers and in conformity to its needs. Nature seems to work with intelligence and for an end, not blindly and by chance. Galen states it as a maxim, “Nothing is done by Nature in Vain.” An Art like Medicine seems to imitate Nature by cooperating with the natural process. The Art of Medicine involves following the course of nature, and thereby it enables the natural result to emerge by overcoming the chances of adverse outcome. The interior nature is the Principal cause of Healing with the physician providing exterior or external help. The physician strengthens nature and employs food and medicine to assist the natural mechanism (such as the “Repair and Inflammation” described in the Science called Human Pathology) to achieve the intended end. The subordination of The Art of Medicine to Nature appears to be the keystone of the whole structure of Medical Practice. The patient is guided to regulate and control the various aspects of diet, exercise, and the lifestyle and medicines or drugs perform an auxiliary function. Surgery is used in the treatment of injuries and to resolve problems where medication by itself will not yield good results. However, it is important to remember that surgical procedures and interventions work by cooperating with nature and natural healing process called Repair and Inflammation. In other words, the physician is a servant , not a master of Nature. Medicine as an Art can be compared to Agriculture which helps a natural result to come about but this effect would never occur without the  work of the Artist. Plants may grow and reproduce without the help of farmers. A person may regain some health without the care of physicians. But, in reality, it is impossible to raise a crop or to grow an orchard by simply depending upon nature and natural mechanisms.

Spirituality Science – The Spiritual Basis for Health and Wellbeing:

The Concept of Whole Medicine to address the problems of Whole Health. Spirituality Science – The Art of Medicine

If the term Soul or Spirit describes the vital, animating principle that governs and operates the existence of the human organism, its nature and functions can be derived from studying the structure and functions of the Red Blood Cell or Erythrocyte which simply exists to integrate and to harmonize the functions of trillions of individual cells, tissues, and the organ systems that constitute the Whole Person who exists as an Individual with Individuality. Health is that condition of the body in which the physiological elements are in balance and in which the various parts function harmoniously with one another. Health represents harmony or good order, or equilibrium in the body.

I describe Spirituality as the operating Principle that generates functional unity, good order, and equilibrium among the cells, tissues, organs, and the organ systems that comprise the human organism and the human Individual experiences Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility in his living condition.

SPIRITUALITY MEDICINE - THE ART OF MEDICINE: The integration of Structure and Function describes the Spiritual Basis for Health and Human Existence. By knowing the structure and function of the Red Blood Cell or Erythrocyte, we can establish the facts of Blood Circulation, the reason for the structure of the Heart and Lungs, their motions and their relation to each other and their relation to the Human Being who exists as an Individual with Individuality.

The Theory of Medicine will determine the nature of The Art of Medicine that is practiced to establish the Physician – Patient Relationship. If the Art of Medicine is based upon Spirituality Science, the Physician – Patient Relationship will have a Spiritual basis. I would ask my readers to give attention to the problems of modern medical practice and we need a Medical Theory that would have a bearing on the following three aspects of The Art of Medicine:

1.  Is Health  better served by the General Practitioner treating the Whole Man or by a Specialist treating a functionally differentiated Special Organ or Organ System?

2. What should be the nature of the Physician-Patient relationship? Is there a therapeutic factor in the relationship that underlines the effectiveness of the Physician’s skills in all other respects?

3. What is the interaction between mind and body in the origin and in the cure of disease?

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ART OF MEDICINE: Sir William Osler(1849-1919) who taught at McGill, the University of Pennsylvania, Johns Hopkins, and Oxford thinks that a Doctor of Medicine is of value to the society even when all medicines are abolished.

Spirituality Science – Holistic Medicine:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - HOLISTIC MEDICINE: The Concept of 'Holistic Medicine' is fundamentally flawed. It fails to describe the term "WHOLE PERSON." If the Person is not known, the concept cannot promote the Health and Well-Being of that Person. The central issue would be about knowing the True or Real Man.

It fails to describe the term “Whole Person.” If the Person is not known, the concept cannot promote the Health and Well-Being of that Person. The central issue would be about knowing the True or Real Man.

Holistic Medicine is a system of health care based on a concept of the “Whole” person as one whose body, mind, spirit, and emotions are in balance with the environment. It is a movement within Medicine that emphasizes the need to perceive patients as “Whole” persons and to treat them accordingly. Holistic Medical Care follows three basic tenets; 1. Recognition of the psychological, environmental, and social contributions to disease, 2. Active involvement of the patient in the treatment process, and 3. Emphasis on preventive medicine and on life-styles that lessen the probability of developing disease. Holistic Care stresses the importance of personal responsibility for health without accounting for man’s existence in the physical world. Apart from conventional Medicine, Holistic health care may recommend alternative medicine such as Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Biofeedback, Faith Healing, Folk Medicine like “Ayurveda”, Megavitamin therapy, Meditation and Yoga. It may avoid Surgery and Prescription Drugs. Holistic Health practitioners may encourage their patients to establish self-regulated regimes to control such illness-related factors as poor diet, smoking, alcohol intake, and stress. It may be noted that the concept of Holistic Medicine and Holistic Health Care is not officially recognized by the American Medical Association.

American Holistic Medical Association – AHMA:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - HOLISTIC MEDICINE: American Holistic Medical Association must define the words it uses in the description of the concept of the "WHOLE" Person. What is Spirit? Where is Spirit located in the multicellular Human Organism? What is the Structure and What are the Functions of the Spirit? AHMA must clarify the Biological Basis for Human Existence before sharing its views about the factors that contribute to Human Illness, Sickness, or Disease. IF MEDICINE OR MEDICAL INTERVENTION WORKS, AHMA MUST ALSO EXPLAIN AS TO WHY THE MEDICINE WORKS.

AHMA must clarify the Biological Basis for Human Existence before sharing its views about the factors that contribute to Human Illness, Sickness, or Disease. If Medicine or Medical intervention works, AHMA must also explain as to why the Medicine works.

American Holistic Medical Association, AHMA founded in 1978 is serving as the leading advocate for the use of Holistic and Integrative Medicine. AHMA defines Holistic Medicine as the Art and Science of Healing that addresses care of the “Whole Person” – Body, Mind, and Spirit. It integrates conventional and complementary therapies to promote optimal health, and prevent and treat disease by addressing contributing factors. Holistic Health Care practitioners strive to meet the patient with grace, kindness, acceptance, and “spirit” without condition as Love is Life’s most powerful healer. Each person is seen as a unique individual rather than an example of a particular disease. AHMA states that disease must be understood to be the result of physical, emotional, “spiritual”, social, and environmental imbalance. AHMA concludes that healing takes place naturally when the physical, emotional, “spiritual”, social, and environmental aspects of Life are brought into proper balance.

AHMA does not mention as to how the physical, emotional, “spiritual”, social, and environmental aspects of Life establish the reality of the Human Being who may exist in the physical world because of the interaction of these factors that are involved in the causation of Disease.

The Concept of Whole Person, Whole Man, Whole Self, and Whole Dude:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - HOLISTIC MEDICINE: THE WHOLE PERSON, THE WHOLE MAN, THE WHOLE BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT, THE WHOLE DUDE, OR THE ENTIRE HUMAN ORGANISM IS DERIVED FROM THIS SINGLE, FERTILIZED EGG CELL, OR "THE WHOLE CELL."
Whole Medicine: The Whole Person, The Whole Man, The Whole Self, The Whole Dude, or the entire human organism is derived from this Single, Fertilized Egg Cell or the Whole Cell.

I ask my readers to give due consideration to the definition of the ‘Whole Person’. I claim that the ‘Whole Person’ is derived from the Single, Fertilized Egg Cell or Ovum which always comes into existence with a unique Genome that is Original, distinctive, one of its own kind, and a Genome that has not existed in the Past, and will not exist again in the Future. Hence, I claim that the ‘Whole Person’ always arrives in the World as a Created Being even if man uses the latest reproductive technology to use  a fertilized Egg Cell that is cloned. Man always exists as a Created Being with Identity and Individuality without any exceptions. This Person is a Conscious Being and hence is distinct from all other physical matter and all other Living Matter. The Person is Conscious of the fact of his own Existence at any given time, place, and environment. Every aspect of the ‘Whole Person’ is derived or contributed by this Single, Fertilized Egg Cell which I would like to recognize as the ‘Whole Cell’. To promote the health and well-being of man at any stage of his human existence; at any age, any place, any environment, and as a member of any social community, I submit that, the factors that contribute to the establishment of the ‘Whole Cell’ and its transformation and existence as the  ‘Whole Person’ must be explained.

The Concept of Whole Person, Whole Man, Whole Self, and Whole Dude: Man is the natural host to trillions of microbes which affect the man’s wellbeing.

The term ‘Whole’ means auspicious, sound, uninjured, healthy, entire, complete, intact, containing all the elements or parts or constituting the entire amount, extent, and number. When the term ‘Whole’ is applied to a human being, it must state all aspects of one’s being that are instrumental to the establishment of the existence of that Living Being.

The medical term ‘Etiology’ describes the causes or origins of disease. It promotes the understanding of the disease as a consequence of the relationships between the host, the etiological agents such as the disease-causing bacteria, and parasites under the influence of social, and environmental conditions that demand man to adapt to constant changes in his living conditions.

Spirituality Science – Whole Medicine:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: The birth of Aesculapius. The Healing Art of Ancient Greece.
Whole Medicine: The birth of Aesculapius. The Healing Art of Ancient Greece.

Medicine is among the most ancient of human occupations. Evidences of the practice of ritual healing, combining religion, and primitive science, are found in the earliest traces of human society and communal living. The Healing Art of ancient Greece was associated with the worship of Apollo who taught Medicine to Chiron and it was passed on to Aesculapius who could be a real person that lived in Greece around 1,200 B.C. The term ‘Asclepiad’ describes a physician and it was used to designate physicians belonging to a family that had produced well-known physicians for generations.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: While the physician in ancient Greece was called Aesculapius, the place of Healing was known as the Temple of Aesculapius. Healing was considered to be a Divine Function or it involved Divine Mechanisms.

In ancient Greece, the knowledge of Medicine was imparted at Medical Schools and such institutions of Learning were known as ‘Askleipion’.

Whole Medicine: Hippocrates, Greek physician of antiquity is traditionally regarded as the Father of Medicine. He belonged to the Greek Island of Kos.

Hippocrates, c. 460 – 377 B.C. was undoubtedly a historical figure in spite of the fact that most accounts about his life could be imaginative. Little is known about him, but a great tradition surrounds his name. Apart from practising his art, he presumably taught at the Medical School at Kos.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: Hippocrates exercised a permanent influence on the development of Medicine and on the ideals and ethics of the medical profession.
Whole Medicine: Hippocrates exercised a permanent influence on the development of Medicine and on the ideals and ethics of the medical profession.

Greek philosopher Plato called Hippocrates, “The Asclepiad of Kos.” Greek philosopher Aristotle said that, Hippocrates was called “The Great Physician.” Hippocrates had a philosophical approach to Medicine. He regards the body as a “Whole” – that is, as an Organism. His medical practice resulted from his collection of information regarding parts of the body into an embracing concept and thereafter, the division of the “Whole” into its parts. He promotes Medicine based on objective observation and deductive reasoning.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: Hippocrates stressed the importance of relying on facts, clinical observation, and experiment.
WHOLE MEDICINE: Hippocrates stressed the importance of relying on facts, clinical observation, and experiment.

Hippocrates states that it is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has. In a quote attributed to Hippocrates, he claims that wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity. Hippocrates may not have authored the so-called “Hippocratic Oath”, but he could have stressed the ethical code for the medical profession. He also stresses the importance of diet and hygiene.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: Hippocrates stressed the importance of human nutrition, the role of diet in the causation of disease and the use of food in treating disease.
Whole Medicine: Hippocrates stressed the importance of human nutrition, the role of diet in the causation of disease and the use of food in treating disease.

The principles taught by Hippocrates are, 1. a physician should work not for personal gain but for love of humanity, 2. disease should be studied by meticulous observation, and cases should be carefully recorded and studied to establish a prognosis, 3. disease is often the result of environmental forces, diet, climate, and occupation, and 4. a physician should emphasize simple treatment supplemented with careful diet and surgical intervention when necessary. In spite of the breathtaking rapidity of developments in modern Medicine, the basic concepts are still the same.

The Philosophy of Medicine – The Concept of Whole Medicine:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - WHOLE MEDICINE: If man is viewed as a "WHOLE" Organism, the organism is derived by the growth, multiplication, and development of this "Whole Cell", the fertilized Ovum. I am advocating a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of man's well-being in relation to health and disease. Such as study must include the concept of this "WHOLE CELL" which has all the attributes that can be observed in man.

I am advocating a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of man’s well-being in relation to health and disease. Such as study must include the concept of this “Whole Cell” which has all the attributes that can be observed in man.

Medicine is the Science and Art of Diagnosing, Curing, and Preventing Disease and it includes the relief of pain, minimizing of disabilities, improving, preserving and maintaining health. The term ‘Medicine’ is also used to describe any drug or other substance used in treating disease, healing, or relieving pain. In several native traditions across the globe, Medicine may include any object, spell, rite, etc., supposed to have natural or supernatural powers as a remedy, curative, preventive, or protective. The idea of ‘Take One’s Medicine describes the requirement to endure just punishment or accepting the results of one’s action.

In my view, Medicine must be concerned with the status of man in the universe, in his natural environment, in his social community while the man exists as an individual with individuality. In other words, Medicine as a Science must primarily be concerned with the biological basis for the reality of man’s physical existence in the world. A systematic study of the biological basis of human existence would demand  the study of Soul and Spirit as the vital, animating principle found in all living things. I seek the existence of Soul and Spirit in a substance that is basic to life activities. Spirit or Soul must be found in a living material substance that is responsible for all living processes. The term Soul and Spirit belong to the materialistic realm where the physical reality of man’s biological existence is established. Further, I do not intend to use the term Soul or Spirit as a metaphysical or transcendental reality independent of the living organism. I define the phrase “Whole Medicine” as a systematic study of the Physical, Mental, Moral, Social, and Spiritual aspects of Man’s Well-Being in relation to health and disease while the man exists as a Created Being.

Man’s Physical Existence:

The subjective reality of man’s physical existence is conditioned by his physical, mental, social, moral, rational, and spiritual well-being.

If man is viewed as a multicellular human organism, we may have to ask ourselves the following question. Who or what is the subject who lives because of the functions of the trillions of cells? Man has to explore the biological basis for his existence in nature. The subjective reality of man’s physical existence is conditioned by his physical, mental, social, moral, rational, and spiritual well-being.

Mental Health – The Mind-Body Connection:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide

Mental health is an important component of the total positive health when health is defined as not the mere absence of disease, but as a state of man’s physical, mental, social, moral, rational, and spiritual well-being.

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide

The man is conditioned to exist under the influence of a grand illusion such as the Sunrise and Sunset which regulates the biological rhythms. The man must find a rational basis for his physical existence as the realities of existing on the surface of a fast, spinning planet impose limitations on man’s cognitive abilities. In the final analysis, the man must face the challenges of living his mortal life finding solutions in a logical and rational manner. Physical conditions and ailments affect mental well-being. Mental health and well-being could have important consequences affecting the physical, and social well-being of the man and may even threaten his ability to maintain the biological integrity to survive as a human organism.

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide

Mental health is defined as the capacity in an individual to form harmonious relations with others and to participate in or contribute constructively to changes in the social environment. A living organism has a tendency to maintain normal internal stability by coordinated responses that automatically compensate for environmental changes. Claude Bernard explained the concept of ‘milieu interieur’ as that of “all the vital mechanisms, varied as they are, have only one object; that of preserving constant the conditions of life.” This concept of homeostasis, the maintenance of stability and equilibrium is applicable to man’s existence within a social group. A living thing maintains its individuality while being a member of a social group. Mental equilibrium, and mental tranquility is needed to maintain internal stability and for developing harmonious relationships with others present in the social environment. The different constituent parts of one’s personality should work in harmony so that an individual faces life situations rationally, successfully, and happily. The aim of the positive mental health care is to strengthen and develop well-integrated personality by influencing the behavioral pattern of the individual so that psychological situations are controlled by the individual in a logical, and rational manner. The individual while facing challenging life situations must arrive at solutions without disrupting the physical, mental, or social well-being. Mental health comprises the well-being of the intellectual and the emotional components of the mind. The intellectual breakdown of the individual deprives him of logical and rational thinking. The decisions taken will be faulty if the individual is not capable of logical and rational thinking. Such faulty decisions tend to affect the individual’s well-being. Intellectual breakdown is always accompanied by emotional breakdown. Emotional imbalance affects individual’s reactions. The individual may show inability to cope with life situations. The inability to withstand the strain and stress of the life situations could affect the physical well-being of the individual. The aim of this presentation is to understand the nature of man’s essence and existence in the physical world and to use that information to prevent the problem of suicide.

Stress and Stress Resistance:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide. A person with a well-integrated personality acquires high resistance against stress and will be able to react healthily while confronting unwholesome life situations.

Resistance against mental and emotional breakdown is built up by the autonomic process of integration of personality. It is the normal process of the growth of personality within the group environs. An individual with a well-integrated personality acquires high resistance against difficult situations. The individual will be able to react healthily while confronting unwholesome life situations. A healthy mind and ability to be moulded in an integrated personality depends upon several factors including the physical, social, and psychological environment in which the individual is growing. It also depends upon the culture patterns and attitudes handed down from one generation to the next. From a very young age, integration of the personality proceeds along with intellectual development  and emotional moulding. Children must be given a better chance to develop integrated personalities with resistance against stress. Stress stimuli generate a chain of psycho-physical reactions strong enough to cause manifest effects. Personalities can be divided into 5 types according to their ability to resist strain and stress to master a given difficult life situation without a physical or mental breakdown. The same psychogenic stimulus may not cause similar reaction in all individuals. Each person reacts in a different manner according to the level of preformed stress resistance.

Group I: Highly stress resistant. These persons have a high level of preformed resistance. They also have the ability to develop resistance within a short time when exposed to stress stimuli. This group comprises of people with well-integrated personalities with dominant will power and power of endurance. They carry out the task even while under great stress without experiencing any negative consequences. They successfully master the stressful and difficult situation. These individuals live in good positive health and may not have a preexisting disease condition or a predisposition to such disease conditions that may undermine the physical and mental aspects of their health and well-being.

Group II: These persons have an average amount of preformed stress resistance. They overcome the stressful situation partially. In the attempt to master the stressful situation and to achieve success the person may suffer from precipitation of internal conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery disease and so on when other predisposing factors are also existing. However, the individual completes the task while facing the stressful stimulus. These persons perform better if they maintain good positive health.

Group III: These are persons with very low preformed stress resistance. They still have the ability to develop resistance on exposure to a prolonged stressful situation. While performing the task under a stressful situation, they may display psycho-somatic symptoms of the overt stress syndrome.

Group IV: These are persons with no preformed stress resistance. They have a very low ability to create resistance upon exposure to a stressful stimulus. These individuals are more likely to abandon the task which may have exposed them to a stressful experience. They would try to escape from stress rather than attempting to create resistance to stress stimuli. If they cannot escape, the lack of stress resistance is manifested in a variety of bizarre symptoms.

Group V: These are persons who are non-resistant to stress. They have no preformed stress resistance. They are not capable of favorably reacting to stress producing situation. Their biological existence could be threatened if they are exposed to a stressful situation. They may manifest an overt psychiatric illness apart from the inability to perform a task that could generate the stress reaction. Such individuals must be recognized in their childhood and they must be provided proper environment and psychological counseling.

The part played by stress varies in different individuals according to their basic personalities. The factors that impact the role of stress include environmental influences, community with its varied backgrounds of culture patterns and life habits. Pre-existent resistance against stress reduces the requirement of immediate psycho-physical response. If the problem of suicide is viewed as a stress reaction, prevention of suicide would require promoting the idea of stress resistance.

The Problem of Suicide:

A man’s right to life is a well-recognized principle. Very often, the law would defend a man’s right to life and would condone the act of killing if it is purely intended for purposes of self-defense. Does a man have the right to kill himself or renounce his life? Suicide is condemned by various societies. Major religions like Judaism, Christianity, and Islam oppose the practice of suicide. Attempts to commit suicide are punishable by law in several countries. In the East, some cultural traditions have glorified acts of self-immolation or of renouncing life to resist enemy or to defend personal dignity, honor, or as an extreme measure of self-preservation.

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide:To defend her true nature, to preserve her essence, to resist the violation of her personal dignity and honor, Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh, India had courageously responded to a difficult and challenging life situation by an act of self-immolation. Her physical being was destroyed by the fire which she had willingly embraced and yet her spirit has survived. She has declared Victory over Death and she lives as an immortal person in the hearts of Indians and gives them a sense of Pride and Identity. Indian Culture and Tradition glorify the act of giving life to resist the Enemy.

In the West, attitudes have been slowly changing. The law may permit euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide under very special circumstances that affect the quality of life of an individual.

The Problem of Suicide in the Armed Forces:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide. While serving as Medical Officer of the Indian Army Medical Corps, I provided Comprehensive Health Care to the troops and their families. The concept of Fitness to Fight includes both Physical Fitness and Mental Fitness. The goal is to keep the troops Fighting Fit at all times and under all conditions that may impose physical, psychological, social, or biological Stress. Indian Tradition has always paid attention to the well-being of all the aspects of health and it includes the Moral well-being, and the Spiritual well-being of the human being. During the years I had served, the incidence of Suicidal Death in the Indian Armed Forces was minimal.

To the members of the Armed Forces, the problem of suicide is of special significance. The Armed Forces as a military establishment has a very challenging and difficult duty to perform. It has to conserve man-power, keep up the morale of its troops, and retain its fighting abilities and capacities at all times, both during peace and during war. In ethical, and moral terms, Armed Forces believes in the act of killing and accepts the inevitability of causing deaths during the conduct of military operations. Armed Forces also actively prepares its members to overcome the fear of death and willingly exposes its members to the risks of getting killed both for the purposes of training and during actual combat situations. A soldier is not expected to kill himself to escape from the stress of his military duty and at the same time he must retain a very high level of motivation to kill the enemy and be willing to get killed in the performance of his task. Armed Forces selects its members with due care and chooses people with preformed stress resistance and further uses training as a tool to build up the stress resistance level of its members. The qualities of valor, duty, and honor define the essence and the spirit of service and Armed Forces members must exist to display their essence. I had participated in the military operations that were conducted in the Chittagong Hill Tracts during the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and I had encouraged men to overcome stress and had promoted the attitude of stress resistance. Kindly refer to my blog post titled ‘The Victory over Death – The Psychology of Warfare.

The Prevalence of Suicide:

Suicide has become much more common and it ranks as the second or third most common cause of death during adolescence. Suicide is also most pronounced in the older age. The rate of suicide is greatest between the ages of 35 and 75 years with a peak at about the age of 55 years. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, in the year 2007, suicide was the third leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 24. Among ages 65 and older, of every 100,000 people, 14.3 died by suicide in the year 2007. This figure is higher than the national average of 11.3 suicides per 100,000 people in the general population.

The Warning Signs of Suicide:

Suicide constitutes the greatest risk in manic-depressive psychosis . During depression, or mania, the psychotic individual shows no insight into the abnormal nature of his mood. Depression is a major symptom of neurosis. Attacks of depression are characterized by signs that the person has deep feelings of melancholia (sadness). The sufferer typically looks unhappy, he feels hopeless and worthless, considers his life a torment. The depressed individual may experience a desire to punish himself by self-destruction and may directly or indirectly express such feelings or thoughts.

The American Society for Suicide Prevention posted these warning signs of suicide, and signs of depression :- Unrelenting low mood, pessimism, hopelessness, desperation, anxiety, psychic pain, inner tension, withdrawal, sleep problems, increased alcohol or other drug use, recent impulsiveness & taking unnecessary risks, threatening suicide or expression of a strong desire or wish to die, making a plan, giving away prized possessions, sudden or impulsive purchase of a firearm, obtaining other means of killing oneself such as poisons or medications, unexpected rage or anger. Changes in attitude, personal behavior could be always discovered and the individual who is at the risk of taking his life could be helped by simple observation.

The Causes of Suicide:

Current research nad thinking on suicide tend to view biological, psychological, social-structural, and social-situational factors as interacting with each other. Sociological theories of suicide usually emphasize the importance of either the social structure or the social situations, and the cultural pressures that individuals face. Psychological theories emphasize personality and cognitive factors.

The Sociological Theory of Suicide:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide. Emile Durkheim (April 1858 to November 1917) is considered to be founder of the French School of Sociology.

Emile Durkheim in his paper ‘Le Suicide’ published in 1897, had tried to explain the apparent and purely individual decision to renounce life as a product of social forces or ‘social functionalism’. He had introduced the term ‘anomie’ or anomy. Suicide results from the breakdown of social standards that people need to regulate their behavior. A failed society produces in its members a sense of futility, lack of purpose, emotional emptiness, and despair. Anomie is a condition of relative normlessness of a society or social group. It may also mean a state of mind of a person who has no standards or sense of continuity or obligation to maintain his social bonds.

The Personality Theory of Suicide:

The desire to escape depression is the most frequently cited motivation to explain suicide. A personality factor could be involved in persons who believe that suicide constitutes a solution to the problems that they may be facing. The suicide victim’s ideas, beliefs, and ways of thinking have a causal relationship with an underlying personality. The way people view their problems can produce a greater or lesser tendency to depression and suicide.

The Quest for Authentic Existence:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide: Philosopher, Nobel Laureate Jean Paul Sartre recommended the quest for authentic existence. He claimed that Suicide is absurd; it is absurd to get rid of what man is (etre-en-soi) as the true subjectivity of man (etre-pour-soi) disappears at the same time.

The Existentialists suggest that a person must find a situation in which he finds his true significance. In his Existentialist book, ‘Being and Nothingness’, philosopher and Nobel laureate Jean Paul Sartre divides the being (the existing reality) into two categories. One category is called being-in-itself (etre-en-soi) and it may describe the essence of the man, the sum of the intrinsic properties without which a thing would cease to be what it is. The second category is being-for-itself (etre-pour-soi) which comprises the being that has thoughts, feelings, and consciousness. The being-for-itself exists only when it is supported by the being-in-itself. Existentialists view man in terms of his existing thoughts and actions rather than in terms of his essence. According to Sartre, man’s own existence is always attempting to overcome a radical estrangement between man as the object of scientific study or man himself (etre-en-soi) and the subjectivity man knows in his thoughts and consciousness (etre-pour-soi). A man’s life in the world and his social transactions often conceal his true subjectivity. A sense of authentic existence is given to each person when he realizes his true subjectivity as a being that is conscious. Sartre claimed that suicide is a final act of absurdity. Suicide is absurd; for in getting rid of what man is (etre-en-soi), the true subjectivity of man (etre-pour-soi) also disappears at the same time.

The Prevention of Suicide:

There is no single approach that could be expected to succeed in substantially reducing the incidence of suicide. However, it will not be incorrect to claim that suicide is 100 percent preventable. The act of killing oneself or the action called suicide is totally preventable even when suicidal thoughts may not be preventable. If an individual’s mind is engaged in suicidal thoughts, it may not be possible to prevent those thoughts as the thoughts have already originated. I may succeed in preventing the individual from acting upon his suicidal thoughts. As long as man knows his thoughts, and would not let his thoughts overwhelm him, man can lead a normal life even when the mind explores ideas or thoughts about suicide.

Stay Informed and Stay Connected:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide: Suicide is totally preventable if man seeks information about his essence and the connection that maintains his existence.

To help prevent suicide, I want to keep the man informed by sharing the following information, and the man must reflect upon the nature of the ‘connection’ that sustains man’s existence in the physical world.

Existence precedes Essence:

Existence is the state of being in the world of actuality. Essence is the most significant part of a thing’s nature, the sum of the intrinsic properties without which a thing would cease to be what it is. What is the fundamental nature or quality that is important or essential to define the true substance of the man? To understand human essence, a human being must be defined as a physical, mental, social, moral, and spiritual being. The subjective reality of man’s existence precedes and defines man’s essence. Existence is the first priority and must be preserved if man wants to define his nature or essence. To defend human existence, the physical, the mental, the social, the moral, and the spiritual well-being of man must be defended. As I have mentioned before, Indian tradition honors the man who may define his moral, or spiritual essence by putting an end to his physical existence. That is the only exception to the rule. The rule is; human existence does not depend upon the contents of man’s thoughts, feelings, desires, emotions, self-pride or ego. Man must always strive to rationally understand and evaluate his thoughts, feelings, desires, moods, emotions, and self-pride and should not act upon them to compromise his existence which is truly independent of such factors that impact human life. If I think that I must live for two hundred years, the thoughts about a long life span would not change the basis for my biological existence. Similarly, if I think that I must kill myself, the suicidal thought does not alter the basis for my biological existence. Suicidal thoughts do not describe human essence. A stress resistant individual would have the ability to investigate and reflect upon his suicidal thoughts and trace the reason for such thoughts. Stress is a problem that is associated with identity and individuality. The human person is a multicellular organism and man must know as to how the human organism establishes its identity and its individuality. While man seeks to define his essence in terms of his identity, the organism seeks to identify the individuality of the person whose existence the cells of his body tend to support.

Identity and Individuality – Two sides of the Same Coin:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide. If Essence describes one face of the coin, Existence describes the second face of the same coin.
Mental Health and the prevention of suicide. If Identity is described by one side of the coin, Individuality is described by the second side of the same coin.

Mental health is related to the understanding of identity and individuality. We need to understand as to how identity and individuality is established in the multicellular human organism. My mind may define my identity in one manner and my human organism may establish my identity in a different manner. My mind may seek my identity from my thoughts, intellectual information & knowledge, emotions, and false ego. These four aspects of mental activities or functions are named in the Indian tradition as Manas, Buddhi, Chitta, and Ahamkara. These four mental activities are together named as Mano Chatushtayam or AntaHkaranam. Indian tradition asks people to recognize that the true identity of the individual does not pertain to these four aspects of human brain activities. The attempts by man to establish his identity on the basis of his morphological appearance, anthropometric data, biometrical information, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, language, or nation/ place of origin have no biological relevance in terms of supporting the existence of that human individual. Man exists as long as he has the ability to defend his individuality and maintains the integrity of the various physiological/metabolic activities that support the vital functions that impart the quality or condition called Life and keeps the organism living. In the human organism, this functional unity is maintained by an anatomical structure called Brain Stem. Man lives as an individual while the functions of the Brain Stem are intact and man dies if  functional activity is not found in the Brain Stem. Man can seek any kind of identity if he could maintain the individuality that the Brain Stem supports. Man is free to change his morphological appearance, can change his sexual identity, can change occupation, speak a different language, change his place of residence, practice a different religion or no religion, and can change the nature of his personal relationships with others while he maintains his individuality as a living organism. A man must be always conscious of his individuality which exists as a distinct entity from his mind and its mental activities. A man could be aware of the presence of suicidal thoughts engaged by his mind and yet maintain his separation from those thoughts. A man who seeks to exist as an individual will have no problem in resisting his thoughts, feelings, emotions, and mood changes. Such mental activities would not overwhelm or overpower the person. The problem of stress would not go away. However, man can become stress resistant. Such stress resistance from psychogenic stimuli is the key for prevention of suicide. The man who is facing challenging life situations represents just one side of the coin, and on the second side is represented the man who is maintains his individuality as a human organism. This separation of identity from individuality gives us the scope to make people stress resistant and to avoid the psychological compulsions of suicidal thoughts. When this separation is established, a man would not act in ways that could harm him in body or mind. To promote mental health, to prevent the consequences of mental disease, we need to give the tools to people to understand and define individuality and identity as two separate aspects of the same coin.

The ‘Self’ and the ‘Knowing-Self’:

Mental Health and the prevention of Suicide.Man could be divided into two categories; the ‘SELF’ represents man as the physical, mental, and social being; the ‘Knowing-Self’ represents man as the Moral and Spiritual being. The ‘Knowing-Self’ could be described as the function of the Reticular Formation of the Brain Stem.

I divide the living human being into two categories. The first category called ‘Self’ may be compared to Sartre’s Being-in-itself or etre-en-soi. The category ‘Self’ represents man’s state of existence as the physical, mental, and social being. Both Rene Descartes and Jean Paul Sartre divide man into two categories; 1. a physical or inert substance that has no thoughts, feelings, or consciousness, and 2. the mind that has thoughts, feelings, and is a conscious entity. Sartre had further named the second as the Being-for-itself or etre-pour-soi which is capable of making decisions and giving man the freedom to act according to his freewill. I do not subscribe to the views held by Descartes or Sartre and I would not seek separation of mind and body into two distinct categories. Man is a multicellular organism; the body cannot exist without a mind/brain and the mind/brain cannot exist without a body which has vital organs like lungs, heart, liver, and kidneys. The body and the mind/brain have to function together. I have also stated my view about consciousness. Please visit the page titled, “I am Consciousness, Therefore I am”

http://bhavanajagat.wordpress.com/2010/05/10/i-am-consciousness-therefore-i-am/

Consciousness is not an exclusive psychological function. Consciousness is a biological function that is shared by all living cells which display the attributes such as recognition, sensitiveness, coordination, cooperation, functional awareness, and awareness of external and internal environment and condition. The category that I call ‘Self’ represents the physical self with various organs and tissues and the mental self which represents mental activities associated with thinking, intellect/knowledge, emotions, feelings, moods, and ego or self-pride. The ‘Self’ may describe the essence or nature, or identity of the man in terms of the man’s own mental awareness and other people in his environment. The second category that I describe could be called the ‘Knowing-Self’. The ‘Knowing-Self’ is aware or conscious of its state and fact of biological existence. It may not always be aware of its external environment. A man who is in a  state of sound sleep, a man who is under the influence of drugs, chemicals, or pharmacological agents like anesthetics, or a person with a head injury loses some components of the function called consciousness. However, a man at all times of his living condition is conscious of his internal condition/environment, maintains the state of equilibrium or homeostasis, and supports the vital functions that define his individuality as an organism. The category called the ‘Knowing-Self’ is related to the individuality and in the multicellular human organism this function is served by the Reticular Formation of the Brain Stem which gives the person the ‘Capacity for Consciousness’. Man needs the ‘Capacity for Consciousness’ to compose the ‘Contents of Consciousness’. In the absence of the ‘Capacity for Consciousness’, man has no ‘Contents of Consciousness’ and could be declared dead if the function called ‘Capacity for Consciousness’ could not be sustained. The ‘Capacity for Consciousness’ is essential for man’s biological existence. The ‘Capacity for Consciousness’ is required for man to exist as a moral and spiritual being. Man exists with an intrinsic ability to discern right from wrong, and exists because of his spiritual nature which gives him the ability to acquire energy for his various metabolic, living functions. The category called ‘Self’ may experience all the difficult, and challenging situations posed by life, and the category called the ‘Knowing-Self’ is not subject to these sensory or mental experiences that impact the ‘Self’.

The God Connection – Stay Connected:

Mental Health – The Importance of Logical and Rational Thinking

Man must recognize that his biological existence depends upon energy acquisition. Man leads energy-dependent existence and must acquire energy from external sources right from the beginning of his life journey, from the moment of conception. Man does not acquire this energy because of his intellectual effort, or acquired knowledge. The ‘egg cell’ that is fertilized is conscious of its energy dependence and it implants itself into the tissues of the mother who may not be mentally aware of this process called implantation by which the human embryo starts deriving its energy from its mother. This embryo grows and develops into a complex, multicellular organism and continues to derive energy from external sources. This ‘Connection’ between the energy-seeker, and the energy-provider could be called ‘God Connection’. Man has no ability to establish this kind of energy acquisition for his survival. If Sun is viewed as the source of extraterrestrial or Cosmic Power, the Solar Energy is trapped by chloroplasts found in the cells of all green plants. This energy is further made available to man by the presence of intracellular organelles called mitochondria which are described as the powerhouses of the cells. Man has no direct control on the nature of this ‘Connection’ and its operation. Man simply exists as there is a Provider for his energy requirements. In good health, or ill-health, under all circumstances and conditions, and during all the stages of his mortal existence, man needs this grace, mercy, and compassion to keep himself alive. This is a supernatural mechanism, or a ‘God Connection’ that supports man while he leads his energy dependent existence. Man who experiences this compassion, mercy, and grace that is sustaining his life would derive a sense of joy and experiences the condition called true happiness. A man who has discovered true happiness cannot experience a mood called depression. It is really hard to kill oneself while the man is connected to a source of Happiness. Man must experience this sense of Joy and Happiness and realize its uplifting power to alter any depressed feeling or mood. If pain is an inevitable aspect of human life, compassion is also an inescapable aspect of human existence. If pain is true, compassion is also equally true. I invite people to find Compassion, Mercy, and the Grace of the Divine Providence in their lives. It would be irrational or absurd to break the God Connection by the act called Suicide.

Whole Dude – Whole Question

Half Full or Half Empty is not the Right Question – Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

Excerpt: When I drink from the ‘Cup of my Life’; What I truly experience from my life, the reality of my condition is more important than my attitude towards existence. The man has no hope to find happiness until and unless he renounces all desires including the desire to find happiness. The man has no choice other than that of living in the moment without concern for either pessimism or optimism. The attitude of dispassion automatically excludes both pessimism and optimism.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY? IS THAT REALLY IMPORTANT?

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

I drank from that cup. Now, the cup could be described as half full or half empty. Is that really important? The cup that I drink from gives me pain and I experience suffering. What would be the right question if I have to drink from that cup? What I truly experience from my life, the reality of my condition is more important than my attitude towards my existence. The issue is not about optimism or pessimism. I need to focus on knowing the reality and I need to face the reality about what I experience when I drink from that Cup of my Life.

IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THIS CUP TO BE TAKEN AWAY FROM ME ?

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

I would answer this question from a reading from The New Testament of The Holy Bible. I would like to quote verses 36 to 44, chapter 26, The Gospel According to Matthew.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

36. Then Jesus came with His disciples to a place called Gethsemane and said to them, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

37. And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

38. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.”

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

39. He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless not as I will, but as You will.”

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

40. Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?

41.”Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

42. Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, may Your will be done.”

43. And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

44. So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

Jesus had prayed three times, saying the same words. It was not possible for the cup to pass away and Jesus had to drink from the cup.

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

THE TEACHINGS OF GAUTAMA BUDDHA:

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Lord Gautama Buddha has laid the foundation for understanding Pain and Suffering that is implicit in Human Existence. Half Full or Half Empty? – What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

At age 29, Prince Siddhartha realized that humans are subject to old age, sickness, disability and death. He became aware of the suffering implicit in human existence. Buddha described the nature of reality and Dharma (“true law”) as the Four Noble Truths (1) life is fundamentally disappointment and suffering; (2) suffering is a result of one’s desires for pleasure, power, and continued existence; (3) to stop disappointment and suffering one must stop desiring and (4) the way to stop desiring and thus suffering is the Noble Eightfold Path- right views, intention, speech, conduct, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration.

From the hymns popularly known as Bhaja Govindam, while I drink from the Cup of my Life, I will keep contemplate on the concept of dispassion:

“KASYA SUKHAM NA KAROTI VIRAGAH”

Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty? What is the real Question? Can You Drink the Cup I Drink?

suramandira-taru-mūla-nivāsaḥ
śayyā bhūtalamajinaṃ vāsaḥ ।
sarva-parigraha-bhōgatyāgaḥ
kasya sukhaṃ na karōti virāgaḥ ॥ 19 ॥

Living in temples or at the foot of trees, sleeping on the ground, wearing deer-skin, renouncing all possessions and their enjoyment – to whom will not dispassion bring happiness?

The verse 19 in Shankaracharya’s Bhaja Govindam questions, “Kasya sukham na karoti viragah?”, which means, “What pleasure cannot be given by dispassion?” It gives all the pleasures because you are so totally living in the moment.

– What is the real Question?
Whole Dude – Whole Question: Half Full or Half Empty doesn’t change the reality of the experience.

Whole Dude – Whole Satisfaction

Whole Dude – Whole Man: Holistic Education for Whole Man or Whole Dude. One Body with all its many parts constitutes the Whole Body. God is the True Provider of Whole Satisfaction.

I describe the Seven Dimensions of the Man to define the phrase Whole Man or Whole Dude.

A Mantra to Save Whole Man: The Mantra of Sukama Ba – Sukuma Ba- Sukuma Ba:

Whole Dude – Whole Man: The sacrifice of Issac by Father Abraham in obedience to LORD GOD’s command. The genesis of the ‘MANTRA’; “SUKUMA BA, SUKUMA BA, SUKUMA BA.” God is the True Provider of Whole Satisfaction.

This is a true story about the ‘Mantra’ called “Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba” revealed by my friend Hoshea (Hebrew – Salvation).

I received a phone call while I was extremely busy and the person who called me was asking if I could provide something that was missing. I was pained that I was not able to provide the product or service that was urgently needed. I was struggling to find the right words as I wanted to give an assurance and a sense of hope that I could deliver or provide the product if I am given sufficient amount of time. My friend Hoshea, who was listening to my phone conversation, recognized my sense of agony, and the feelings of disappointment for my inability to provide what was needed by the caller. Hoshea told me that my response to the phone call was not proper. He told me the secret of providing and revealed to me the nature of the True Provider and the concept of Whole Satisfaction.

Whole Dude – Whole Man: Lord is True Provider of Whole Satisfaction.

Hoshea assured me that the LORD is the True Provider and directed me that man must always invoke the blessings of the LORD, the True Provider. I asked Hoshea as to what is the correct way to respond to such a phone call or when people ask for help which I may not be able to provide. Then Hoshea, true to his name, revealed the ‘Mantra’ that he learned from Prophet Moses. Hoshea chanted the ‘Mantra’ for my benefit: “Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba.” He told me that the magical potency of this ‘Mantra’ invokes the blessings of the LORD as the LORD is the True Provider. The Lord hears the prayer, and knows the nature of the problem, and provides what is needed or a replacement to provide the Whole Satisfaction that would uplift man from his misery and plight.

I asked Hoshea to explain the meaning of the words of this ‘Mantra’ of “Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba.” He narrated the story from the First Book of Moses, Genesis, the First Book of The Old Testament.

Whole Dude – Whole Man:

Whole Dude – Whole Man: The creation of man as a Whole and Complete person in God’s own image.

The First Book of Moses, Genesis describes the creation of man: “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God. He created him; male and female. He created them.” (Genesis, Chapter 1, verse 27).

Whole Dude – Whole Man: God created man in His own image and for that reason, man is a Whole Man.

Man is a perfect creation and hence the man created by God is a Whole Man which means that man is auspicious, in sound health, not diseased, not injured, not broken, not damaged, not defective, intact, containing all the elements or parts and is complete.

A Test for Whole Man’s Obedience and the Saving of Whole Man by Sukuma Ba ‘Mantra’:

Whole Dude – Whole Man: In obedience to LORD GOD’s Command, Father Abraham decided to sacrifice his only son Issac at an altar chosen by God. Issac who was fully conscious, cried loudly, “SUKUMA BA, SUKUMA BA, SUKUMA BA.” LORD GOD heard Issac’s prayer, was satisfied with Father Abraham’s obedience, sent a male sheep (RAM) to replace Issac for the ritualistic sacrifice.

The Book of Genesis, Chapter 22 describes the story of Issac, the only son of Father Abraham.

Whole Dude – Whole Man: God is the True Provider of Whole Satisfaction.

God wanted to test Abraham : “Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Issac, whom you love, and go the Land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Genesis 22:2).

While Abraham and Issac proceeded to the designated place of worship, Issac spoke to his father: “But Issac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am my son.” Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” (Genesis 22:7). And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” (Genesis 22:8)

Then Abraham built an altar at the place God had told him, and Abraham placed the wood in order; and bound Issac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood (Genesis 22:9).

Hoshea revealed that, it was at that moment of desperation, Issac had yelled to express his sense of shock and disappointment that he had become the sacrificial Lamb chosen by LORD GOD. Issac loudly protested saying the magical words, “Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba, Sukuma Ba.” The ‘Mantra worked and God listened to the prayer and took action to Provide the Lamb for the burnt offering.

Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns.

Whole Dude – Whole Man: God is the True Provider. God Provided His Only Son as the Sacrificial Lamb and forced him to carry the burden of the Cross.

So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son (Genesis 22:13) and Abraham called the name of the place, “The-LORD-Will-Provide”; as it is said to this day.” (Genesis 22:14)

The Material Basis of Spirituality Science. Spiritual Optics. The Materialistic Evaluation of the Physical Assets of the Human Being

The Material Basis of Spirituality Science. Spiritual Optics. Exposing the Material Wealth of the Fashion Angels. The Story of King Midas.

What it is to be a Substance? and What it is to Exist? We need to establish knowledge about the man and the world on a firm basis and the information it provides must be tested for its accuracy and consistency with an external reality. We have to make the fundamental distinction between the living and the non-living matter. The scientific advances of the 19th and 20th centuries reinforced the materialistic position concerning the basic similarity of organic living and inorganic physical matter. The man is viewed as a product of natural evolution and is thought to be subject to the same laws of Physics and Chemistry or mechanistic principles.

We need a methodology to study philosophy and to understand philosophical statements. Logical Positivism, also known as Scientific Empiricism aims to clarify concepts in both everyday and scientific language. It describes analysis of language as the function of philosophy. This analysis of language and of concepts is important to understand questions of belief and ideology which affect what we think we ought to do individually and socially. I would use this method of ‘Applied Philosophy’ to analyze the concept of Spiritual Optics, the Spiritual Connection between Energy and Life. The Laws of Thermodynamics are important unifying principles of Biology. The First Law of Thermodynamics, also known as the Law of Conservation of Energy, states that Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Spiritual Optics accounts for the capacity of photoreception and the term Spiritual Light refers to the creation of Light by God to begin the designing of Matter.

The word ‘Expose’ refers to the process of making a hidden fact, or secret known; to lay open, to make accessible, to allow to be seen, disclose, unmask, reveal, display, or exhibit to get public attention to some information. Victoria’s Secret which designs fashionable lingerie for women disclosed that South African Fashion Model, Candice Swanepoel models Victoria’s Secret’s $10 Million “Royal Fantasy” bra in its fashion show. It gives me the opportunity to examine the philosophical doctrine of Materialism and my doctrine of Spiritualism in which I claim that Spirit and Soul are material substances that establish man’s relationship with God.

While it is easy to estimate the price of the Bra, how do we estimate the worth of the human person? The estimation of the value of human flesh will expose the Secret of man’s relationship with God.

Victoria’s Secret has established this tradition of presenting very expensive, or very pricey pieces of women’s lingerie. The “Royal Fantasy Bra” is one of the most expensive bras in the Fashion Show’s history. This bra is created by jeweler Mouawad and is adorned with over 4,200 precious gems including rubies, diamonds, and yellow sapphires all handset in 18-karat Gold. The center piece of attraction is a 52-karat, pear-shaped Ruby. It took about 500 hours to prepare this Fantasy Bra.

Karl Marx proposed a theory of Materialism that is not based upon mechanistic principles. He opposed G.W.F. Hegel’s Idealism with his theory of Dialectical Materialism which holds that everything is material and that human beings create social life solely in response to economic needs. He used his theory to predict the course of human history whereas I tend to use Materialism to explain the problems of method and interpretation used in Science. I would like to share some photo images of Victoria’s Secret’s Fashion Models which expose man’s involvement with insensible physical matter that has no role in supporting man’s biological existence. It is suggested that a materialist is interested mainly in sensuous pleasures and bodily comforts and hence is concerned about acquiring material possessions that bring pleasure and happiness. Life itself is dependent upon a virtually uninterrupted supply of materials for its metabolism during its entire period of existence called lifetime. Apart from the value of material, we have to pay attention to the functional role of the material to understand if it can contribute to joy, and happiness in Life.

Man has recognized the physical nature of material world and has associated a sense of value with characteristics like physical appearance; lustre, shape, color, and form; durability, resistance to corrosion, and rarity of the material. The word ‘Diamond’ comes from the Latin word ‘Adamas’, and Greek word ‘Adamant’ which means unconquerable, or invincible for it is known as a very hard substance apart from its reflective and refractive properties which can be enhanced by cutting and polishing the stone. A prepared diamond can reflect all the spectral colors. By chemical composition, diamond is defined as a crystalline form of Carbon and yet this Carbon is unlike the Carbon found in all living, organic matter. A diamond cannot replace or repair the broken structures of its own substance, whereas the human body has the inherent ability to heal itself using a natural process called ‘Repair and Inflammation’.

The mineral known as ‘Corundum’ derives its name from Tamil word “Kurundam” and Sanskrit word “Kuruvinda.” It is composed of Aluminum Oxide. It is second only to the diamond in hardness. Pure, transparent varieties of Corundum include the Ruby and Sapphire. Ruby is a clear deep-red variety and the red color is due to minute amounts of Chromic Oxide. Diamonds, Rubies, and other precious stones and gems are known to man for thousands of years and several of them were discovered in India.

MATERIALISM vs SPIRITUALISM:

Materialism is described as a view that considers all facts, the reality of all things including facts about the human mind and will and the course of human history are causally dependent upon  matter, physical processes, or even reducible to Laws of Physics, Chemistry or other mechanistic principles. Materialism tries to explain the nature of reality by examining matter or material objects. The doctrine of Materialism denies the existence of immaterial things but cannot deny the existence of a dimension called space. Matter with form and specific properties cannot exist if the dimension called space does not exist. However, I am not opposed to the doctrine of Materialism, and just like the materialists, I would insist upon settling questions by reference to public observation and not to private intuition. As per this doctrine of Materialism, it may be stated that 1. mental events including ideas, imagination, and feelings are in reality represent certain complicated physical events, 2. mental processes are entirely determined by physical processes, 3. mental and physical processes are two aspects of what goes on in a substance which is both a mental and a body substance at the same time, and 4. thoughts and wishes influence an individual’s life, but the course of human history is determined by the interactions of masses of people and masses of material things in a predictable manner without reference to the higher processes of thought and will. Materialism is said to be opposed to belief in God, in disembodied spirits, in free will, or in certain kinds of introspective psychology. In modern Quantum Physics, matter is explained in terms of fundamental subatomic particles where the mass of a particle represents its energy content. It could be true that living matter is constituted by such fundamental particles, but the understanding of living matter demands the separation of matter and energy. Living matter is defined by chemical molecules and their structural and functional organization that demands supply of energy from an external source.

Whole Dude-Whole Designer-Whole Expose: In Greek Mythology, King Midas of Phrygia was granted the power of turning everything that he touches into gold. When even his food became gold, his daughter turned into gold, he washed away his power in the Pactolus River. This story reveals the relationship between Physical Matter and Spiritual Matter.

The Spiritualism that I describe speaks about the spiritual nature of the living matter. Living Matter is always united with Spirit and Soul, and the presence of Spirit and Soul is reflected in the functional characteristics of the Living Matter that is sensible, and uses its cognitive ability to attract matter found in its external environment and uses that matter to build new molecules of its own substance to maintain its own existence through guided, sequential, selective, and intelligent actions. In other words, Life is a ‘Dynamic’ process and the chemical molecules that constitute the living matter are continually replaced. The Living matter must be supplied energy for continual synthesis of new organic molecules and to replace, or to repair broken organic molecules. The word ‘Metabolism’ is used to describe the processes of synthesis and breakdown of chemical molecules that living matter uses by a constant supply of the materials of which it is composed. The developments in Material Sciences such as Physics and Chemistry indicate that the notion of “Cause” and of “Universal Determinism” cannot be entirely denied. It is important to know the physical worth of human body by understanding the nature of its substance. The value of the human body is not related to the material that may be used to adorn the body. If all the diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and pearls of this planet Earth are invested together, the man cannot synthesize a gram of the living matter described as Protoplasm, or Cytoplasm, the corporeal substance found in the human body that builds its own flesh, blood, and bones. All the material wealth if combined is not equivalent to the wealth of spiritual nature that is required to synthesize living matter from its constituent chemical elements and chemical molecules that can be easily purchased or found in nature.

Who is the Artist? Who is the Designer?

The Material Basis of Spirituality Science. Spiritual Optics. Chlorophyll formulates the Spiritual Connection between Energy and Life. Who is the Artist? Who is the Designer? An artist uses colors with imagination to create forms and to generate a desired visual effect. A “Whole Artist” is a person who creates his own canvas, his own tools, his own pigments, and creates the desired visual effects while the forms that are created have no such creative and cognitive abilities.

No single function can explain the coloration of living things. We need a comprehensive theory that predicts the lines and patterns of coloration of plants and animals. An artist’s palette containing only three properly chosen colors is entirely adequate under most circumstances to produce the various visual effects of color that is observed. The optical mechanisms involved in the production of color are complex. Coloration is a dynamic and complex characteristic and the term must be clearly distinguished from the term ‘color’ which only refers to the spectral qualities of emitted or reflected light. It is apparent that plants, and animals have no cognitive abilities to produce the coloration by which they are recognized. However, the coloration displayed gives us a clue about the nature of the “Whole Artist” who could be using imagination, has feelings for the forms created and seeks satisfaction from the visual effects that he produced.

The Material Basis of Spirituality Science. Spiritual Optics. Exposing the Material Wealth of the Fashion Angels. This Fantasy Bra is a product of man’s idea, and imaginative power where a thought is converted into a physical reality. Can man create Living Matter using his power of imagination?

If a man has the ability called visual perception, he must use the ability to visualize the “Whole Artist” who is at work. I ask my readers to give attention to the three dimensions of Color Perception. These are, 1. The Designer or the Artist, 2. The Object of Perception, and 3. The visual capacity of the Viewer.

What is Matter? and What is Spirit? What is the Color of Money? If materialism is about the influence of material wealth, I would like to use the Power/Force/Energy called Money to talk about Life and Death. The Laws of Conservation are applicable to both the living, and the non-living matter. Hence, it can be stated that “Life can neither be created nor destroyed.” If any person can refute my claim using valid, scientific information, I would offer the person a US $1,000 bill as a reward

WHOLE SPIRITUALITY – WHOLE ORIGIN

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ORIGIN OF HUMAN SPECIES:

The appearance of the Human Species about 8,000 to 10,000 years ago cannot be explained as a natural event and it cannot be accounted for by The Law of Natural Generation. There are two important principles involved; 1. The Biogenetic Law which stipulates that living organisms are generated only by living organisms, and 2. The Law of Natural Generation that states that offspring will always be of the same Species as the parent Species. In my view, the Origin of Human Species as a new form of life cannot be explained by the operation of natural causes. At the same time, I would like to respectfully avoid the term “Supernatural”, and would rather prefer to use the term “creative” to explain the Origin of Human Species and account for the Special Form of Man.

THE NATURAL HISTORY OF MAN:

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ORIGIN OF HUMAN SPECIES: The Science called Geology describes the physical nature and history of planet Earth. Pleistocene, First Epoch of the Quaternary Period in the Cenozoic Era, is known as the Period of the Great Ice Age records the appearance of the members of the species that belong to the Homo Genus. Modern Human activity belongs to the Holocene Epoch that began about 10,000 years ago.

Modern Human activity belongs to the Holocene Epoch that began about 10,000 years ago.

During the Period of the Great Ice Age or Pleistocene, continental glaciers covered much of N. North America, and NW Europe. The Holocene Epoch or Series which started approximately 10,000 years ago began to witness a change in Earth’s surface. The continental glaciers are now restricted to Antarctica and Greenland. It was not a cataclysmic change with consequences for the survival of life. The climatic change has actually helped the development and spread of modern human culture. It is indeed very surprising to note that this improvement in Earth’s surface and climate was accompanied by the extinction of giant mammals and the disappearance of a large variety of the Hominid Species.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ORIGIN OF HUMAN SPECIES: PLEISTOCENE EPOCH IS DIVIDED AS UPPER PLEISTOCENE, MIDDLE PLEISTOCENE, AND LOWER PLEISTOCENE. THE EARLY HOMONID SPECIES SUCH AS THE HOMO ERECTUS ERECTUS OR THE JAVA MAN BELONG TO THE LOWER PLEISTOCENE.

None of these Hominid Species could be  considered as the intermediate link or intermediate species from which the Human Species has arrived. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE - THE ORIGIN OF HUMAN SPECIES: CHARLES DARWIN(1809-1892) MADE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS AND HIS PUBLISHED WORKS INCLUDE THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES(1859) AND THE DESCENT OF MAN(1871). HE FAILED TO DESCRIBE THE CREATIVE PROCESS, THE CREATIVE MECHANISM, OR THE CREATIVE EVENTS THAT CAN ACCOUNT FOR THE APPEARANCE OF NEW SPECIES AND THE EXTINCTION OF SPECIES FOR WHICH THERE IS NO NATURAL CAUSE.

In my view, there is no extinct or living Species that can bridge the gap between the Human Species and its nearest Hominid allies. About, 10,000 years ago, Earth’s surface had changed. The land area covered by Ice has steadily decreased; in Upper Pleistocene about 28 percent land area was covered by Ice and in Holocene, only about 10 percent land area is covered by ice. The warming of the climate has increased the area of habitation available to the various Hominid Species. Environmental conditions are entirely favorable to the survival of all the Hominid Species. If Darwin’s Theory of Evolution is a valid theory, we must witness the simultaneous co-existence of all intermediate varieties that may have progressed through incremental changes leading to the Origin of the Human Species. There was no geological catastrophe, it is relatively easy to adapt to the changed environment, food supply is adequate and particularly the Hominid Species were not preying upon one another in their struggle for existence. Actually, Darwin’s view on blending of hereditary factors is not supported by Gregor Mendel’s classic experiments in hybridization. According to Mendel, Inheritance is particulate and his theory is fully validated. Distinct genetic factors combine to produce a certain somatic result without causing the loss of separate identities carried by specific genes. The genetic factors can therefore be assorted and enter into new genetic combinations in the next generation. There is no evidence to suggest that the new Human Species has arrived because of some abrupt mutations in a single generation of any particular Hominid Species. It may be noted that Darwin’s Theory claims that new species originate through natural processes of Heredity and Selection. The Natural Laws of Heredity, and the natural process named Natural Selection are not sufficient for the production of the new Human Species that replaced all other Hominid Species that survived until Middle and Upper Pleistocene.

SPIRITUALISM AND VIOLENCE – GRIEF AT SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:

In U.S. history, the second-deadliest school shooting took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Connecticut during the beautiful morning hours on Friday, December 14, 2012. The killing of 20 school children and other adults will force us to reflect upon human nature.

This act of violence at Sandy Hook compels us to examine the Spiritual Basis for human existence.

AGGRESSION AND HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS:

Among animals, man has the ability to kill members of his own kind for reasons other than that of food, territory, and reproductive success. However, I do not consider that aggression is innate to human nature. The thought to commit an act of violence may enter the human mind because of an external, environmental stimulus. For an infectious agent to enter human body and cause a diseased condition would require a degree of susceptibility to that infection. A person who is not in proper relationship with his own self, and with others is susceptible to be taken over by harmful emotions such as anger that generates the desire to commit an act of violence. The gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School could be described as a victim of his inability to formulate harmonious relationship both at personal level and interpersonal level. Mental Health involves the ability to develop harmonious social relations. In my view, the basis for external, harmonious, social relationships begins at a personal level; the ability to define one’s relationship with oneself.

THE SPIRITUAL BASIS FOR HUMAN EXISTENCE:

This act of violence at Sandy Hook Elementary School illustrates man’s estrangement or alienation from his true or real nature. I would like to reinforce the fact of the spiritual basis for human existence. In life, or death, man needs the mercy, grace, and compassion of his Creator. Man does not exist in this physical world because of his intellectual, or physical effort. It is a good time to explain the dependent nature of human existence and invite peace, harmony, and tranquility in the living condition by accepting the Divine Providence with a sense of respect and humility. The act of acceptance  of Divine mercy, grace, and compassion generates the emotion called ‘devotion’ which provides a sense of comfort and makes the person stress-resistant, and imparts the ability to overcome the feelings of fear, and the sense of grief generated by the loss of life.

GRIEF AND COMPASSION AT SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:

SPIRITUALISM AND VIOLENCE: GRIEF AND COMPASSION AT SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

It is human nature to respond to grief with feelings of compassion. I describe, that human nature is constituted by the principles  called ‘spirit’, and ‘soul’. In ‘spirit’, man seeks freedom, and with ‘soul’, he establishes the dependence that supports the human existence. The violence, and aggression that we have witnessed is a response to an external environmental stimulus. Man betrays his own true nature or fails to recognize his real self; and this sense of estrangement or alienation from reality leads to behavior that destroys peace, harmony, and tranquility in man’s interactions with others in his environment. This gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School had utterly failed to defend his own freedom as he got alienated from his own ‘spirit’ and had failed to recognize his own ‘soul’ that sustains his existence. This loss of freedom had caused him to end his own existence using the same gun with which he had attacked others.
