A POUND OF FOOLISHNESS   IS BETTER THAN A PENNY OF WISDOM :

What is Reality? The Golden Gate Bridge is real, Pacific Ocean is real, Sun is real. The Sunset is not real. Can man experience the Reality? How would Reality impact man's existence?

The social scientist Bruno Latour, from France’s “Institut d’ Etudes Politiques de Paris” was in New Delhi, India and spoke about what it means to be modern with Deep K Datta-Ray of Times of India. In essence, I support his view and there is a need for a new approach; the use of irrational belief and not that of scientific rational belief.

CAN SCIENCE PROVIDE EXPERIENCE OF REALITY?

Pencil in Water Illusion. Can Science influence the nature of Perception? The Perception of bent Pencil is caused by the properties of Light rays. Science can only explain the reason for this Optical Illusion. Science has no Power to eliminate the Illusion. The only way man can experience the Reality of this Pencil would be that of changing the State of Pencil's Conditioned Existence. It is easy to remove the Pencil from Water and experience the Reality. But, can Man remove himself from his State of Conditioned Existence and experience Reality?

It would be totally irrational to believe that Science could provide the experience called Reality. Science is not POWER/FORCE/ENERGY which operates in the natural world. Science provides information to understand things and it has no power or force to influence things. Science may reveal understanding of the nature of Reality and such revelation could be of no use  in the context of human existence on planet Earth as man lives because of illusional experience of the world and the universe in which he exists.

THE REALITY OF EARTH’S MOTION :

Science can explain the Motions of planet Earth. Science can not provide the experience of the Speed of planet Earth’s Motions. The Reality of Earth’s Motions is known and is understood. But, man exists only if this Reality is not directly experienced. The physical and mental experience of the Speed of Earth, the Angular Speed, and the Linear Speed would not permit man’s physical existence on the surface of planet Earth.

The speed of earth’s motion can be described in two ways; 1. The Angular Speed: The earth rotates 360 degrees in 24 hours and the speed is 1,000miles/hour. 2. The Linear Speed: The distance earth travels is 584 million miles per year. The Linear Speed of earth is 66, 660 miles/hour.

Science may explain the fact of the speed of a point on the surface of the earth but can not force man to experience the Reality of that Speed. Man exists on the surface of the earth without ever experiencing the Reality. There is no physical experience of this basic Reality. There is no direct mental experience of this fundamental Reality. Man may intellectually visualize this Reality by understanding the facts explained by Science. If the human brain and body is constantly engaged by the fact of earth’s motions, the Reality of earth’s Angular Speed and Linear Speed, man would immediately experience a mental breakdown and would not be able to function as a living organism. Just think about the sense of fear, anxiety generated by a brief event like earthquake. The Subjective Reality of man’s Physical Existence on the surface of earth is sustained, is supported, and is protected by a Fundamental Force called Gravitation. Because of the operation of Gravitational Force man is virtually saved from any experience of Earth’s motions. Man only experiences the environmental changes caused by Earth’s motions. Further, this Subjective Reality of man’s Physical Existence is governed by a FORCE/POWER/ENERGY that causes an illusionary experience of Sun’s movement across the sky. Science would explain the Reality of Sun’s motion at a speed of 155 miles/second. But, man exists on the surface of earth with no physical or mental experience of Sun’s true or real motion. What man experiences is the apparent motion of Sun and experiences Sunrise and Sunset. Science may explain the Reality and teach us the fact of Sun shining with brightness all the time. Man has invented stories and has created folk tales about Sun’s Journey in the Sky. The Reality described by Science does not govern human existence. The biological activities, the Biological Rhythms( Circadian/Diurnal/Solar Rhythms) are synchronized with the experience of ILLUSION and not that of Scientific Reality.

BIOLOGICAL CLOCK AND MAN’S LIFE JOURNEY  :

Man's existence on the surface of planet Earth and the duration of his life's journey is measured by the internal Biological Clock. The time duration is measured by the alternating periods of Light and Darkness, the experience of Day and Night, the experience of Sunrise and Sunset which drives the Biological Rhythm. In Reality, the Sun is shining with brightness at all times during the entire length of man's life journey. Man gets no chance to experience that Reality and the Biological Clock is not influenced by that Reality of Sun shining at all the hours of man's earthly existence.

Man can not exist on the surface of physical earth if he has direct body or mental experience of the Reality explained by rational Scientific Belief. The very nature of human existence in this vast universe can not be rationally understood. There is no evidence to suggest that Life could be discovered in other parts of our universe. There is no chance that man could find an opportunity to leave the Solar System and find a Home in a different part of the universe. Man has no control over the structure and organization of the universe. Man has no choice other than that of accepting the conditioned nature of his energy dependent existence with no other place to call as Home. Rational beliefs have no role and do not define the status of man in nature and in the universe. It is more likely that man’s existence could be supported by an irrational belief in Ultimate Reality, which operates the POWER/FORCE/ENERGY which delivers MERCY/GRACE/COMPASSION to spread a veil of ILLUSION to defend man from the direct physical or mental experience of Reality of the Universe in which man lives.

Man can only exist in this Universe if he does not directly experience the Reality of this Universe. Man's earthly existence is defended by ILLUSION and Science has no Power to provide man a chance to experience Reality which is hidden by the ILLUSION.

‘The only shibboleth the West has is science’

Apr 4, 2011, 12.00am IST, Times of India

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/opinion/edit-page/The-only-shibboleth-the-West-has-is-science/articleshow/7857996.cms?intenttarget=no

The social scientist Bruno Latour , from France’s Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), was in New Delhi and spoke about what it means to be modern with Deep K Datta-Ray .

Why do you argue that Western Europe has never been modern?

The only shibboleth the West has is science. It is the premise of modernity and it defines itself as a rationality capable of, indeed requiring separation from politics, religion and really, society. Modernisation is to work towards this.

A move away from the pre-modern, which is a period of embroilment and entanglement of everything but when one looks at the practice of science in a laboratory, as i did, this division is revealed as false.

Scientists are very much entangled in their culture and this culture is not pristine, untouched by other cultures and practices. The real history of Europe therefore is one of a constant interaction, a mixing of peoples, various cultures and the material.

What does this mean for our understanding of what the modern world actually is, how institutions thought of as quintessentially modern function?

There’s very little on how today’s world actually functions. Instead there is the official story of modernisation. Meanwhile, there is a prominent discourse in India about modernisation.

My argument is that the baseline for understanding modernity requires interrogation, which destabilises expectations of what a modernising society should do.

Traditionally, the moderns criticised the supposedly archaic, symbolised by the East. Everyone wanted to become modern – but my work demonstrates that being modern was never as clear as presumed. So, when India begins to modernise what happens?

There is a double instability – of an uncertain baseline and then what happens when that is implemented in a society far away and especially in an institutional setting and in an area so close to the state such as governance. So there has to be more work on this.

This is especially important because there are so many more people here, it is possible to have institutions of a different complexion altogether, of alternative ways instituted here. India is a reservoir of alternative interpretations of what the global is and these ways of viewing the world need to be exposed.

Could it also be said that the idea of a universalising ‘modern’ rationality is not necessarily European but became dominant in Europe?

For that there has to be more work on the non-western world. Regardless of place, there have to be thicker descriptions of practice, of what the modern world actually is, how do banks work for instance, because all we have is utopian description of how modernity functions. The dream of utopia killed descriptive work because the focus was on a universalising rationality, not how rationality actually plays out in practice. It should be clear that i’m not saying the East is somehow different, exotic. If one looks at the works of Newton to Einstein they were never scientists in the way modernity understands the term.

What are the implications of this type of work on politics?

Well, politics cannot keep to the scientific ideal quite simply because science in practice meant our moving from the country to the city and getting progressively disconnected from nature. But now one cannot discuss anything without thinking of the whole. Science was supposed to take us out of the cosmos and into a universalising rationality but that has produced all sorts of problems which are being corrected today by new approaches which are reminiscent of the non-modern, such as the politics of nature. This is a cosmological approach, one that ties in everything to make a decision.

THE PURSUIT OF PURE KNOWLEDGE  AND  PERFECT  WISDOM  : SALUTATIONS TO GODDESS SARASVATI :

Goddess Sarasvati symbolizes Indian Cultural Belief in the Pursuit of Pure Knowledge and Perfect Wisdom.

Saraswathii tviyam drushtyaa veenaa pustaka dhaarinee

Hamsa vaaha samaa yuktaa Vidyaa daanakarii mama.

PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE AND PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN EXISTENCE  :

The pursuit of knowledge is a universal phenomenon. People of all cultures and of all regions have the desire to acquire knowledge. My Indian Identity is displayed by my belief  that some icons could help me in the learning process and in finding Knowledge and to acquire Wisdom.I was encouraged to use three Cultural icons and  was introduced to the use of these icons as the first learning experience of my life. I acquire knowledge to support my human existence. However, Pure Knowledge and Perfect Wisdom is the key, it is the hope and it is deliverance and ultimately it breaks my shackles and gives me the opportunity to conquer the fear of ‘ SAMSARA ‘, a term which explains Indian attitude and understanding about human existence. While I was very young,I  was encouraged to seek knowledge to find a way to free myself from the problems of Samsara and was instructed about the tools that I could use in this pursuit.I am directed to learn and acquire knowledge not only to make a living and support myself but also to know the nature of Reality.  Pursuit of knowledge is a global phenomenon and it is not the privilege of any particular class of people.

LORD SHIVA :

The humble begining for the pursuit of Pure Knowledge and Perfect Wisdom. Learning commences with an attitude of humility and willingness to learn with the intention of using information to apply it in thinking in areas that are covered by that learning process.

The first icon is Lord Shiva who is described as the God of Learning. The learning of alphabet(” AKSHARA ABHYASAM “)began with the writing of a mantra with my finger tip over a bed of rice grains. The five letter mantra of ‘OM NAMAH SHIVAYA‘ was followed by a solemn declaration of ” SIDDHAM NAMAH “indicating that I am ready and that I am prepared to receive my learning instructions. That is the ground rule for learning.Learning would simply be impossible if the student is unwilling and is unprepared. Shiva ensures that we are willing and obedient before we commence our schooling career.Shiva defines that the purpose of learning is to acquire the ability to think for oneself.

THE LEARNING PROCESS - THE FIVE LETTER MANTRA - Om, Na Ma Si Va Ya.

GODDESS SARASVATI :

Sarasvati - The Goddess of Wisdom and Perfect Knowledge, the Goddess of Speech or Vaak presides over the Broca's Area, the Speech Center of the Brain.

The second icon is Goddess Sarasvati who is described as the Goddess of Wisdom. The personality of Sarasvati could be compared to the female person identified as wisdom in chapters 1,3 and 4 ,in the Book of Proverbs( the Proverbs of King Solomon, the son of King David, the King of Israel) of Holy Bible which instructs that ” The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Knowledge.” She represents the value of acquiring pure knowledge. To optimize our learning potential,to draw upon the immense powers of a creative mind,She recommends an attitude of humility, obedience and discipline. The following verse shows that all the Gods of our Culture including Her spouse BRAHMA worship Her to avoid mental lethargy. She defines that the goal of learning is to transform our minds to make us creative individuals.

Humility, Obedience, and Discipline are required in the Pursuit of Pure Knowledge and Perfect Wisdom.

Yaa kundendu tushara haara dhavalaa, yaa subhra vastranvitaa

Saa maam patu Saraswathi,Bhagavati nisesha jaadyapahaa.

 LORD GANESHA :

LORD GANESHA - THE MENTOR FOR LEARNING - THE ART OF LEARNING WITH HUMILITY, PATIENCE, AND PERSEVERANCE.

Lord Ganesha is the mentor of learning. This belief is so strongly ingrained into our psyche,His idol is worshiped along with the school books placed on the side to remind Him that we are seeking His assistance to learn from those books. He symbolizes the values of attentive listening, writing down words as instructed and patience. In the learning process,He works like a catalyst. He facilitates achievement by removing obstacles. He helps students to gain success with a sense of humility. All obstacles are removed and subdued if I meditate upon His face which is a picture of relaxation and total composure. The following prayer specifically guides me to overcome problems by focusing on positive energy that can be gained by reflecting upon a face that promotes tranquility.

Shuklaam bara dharam,Vishnum.sasi varnam,chatur bhujam
Prasanna Vadanam dhyaaye, tsarva vighnopa sante ye.

THE SARASVATI TRADITION :

Sarasvati, the destroyer of Mental Inertia and Lethargy.

The worship of Sarasvati is not a mere ritual. The worship would invariably include all the books and even note books that are used in the school.Books are not considered to be just a source of information but they are viewed as objects worthy of reverential treatment and as such are deemed to be physically representative of Sarasvati.Any disrespectful manner of handling books is avoided. For example, books including note books could not be tossed or dropped on to the bare floor. The floor should be cleaned and prepared and is preferably covered with a piece of cloth or a mat and the books should be carefully laid.Books are never to be used as play objects and not allowed to be used to hit another person. As a kid, I had actually believed that improper handling of books would displease Sarasvati and I believed that learning would become extremely difficult as a consequence of disrespectful attitude towards books.Self motivation and high expectation of academic achievement are very important in the learning process. The following prayer to Sarasvati demonstrates the need to prepare the mind to expect success while learning.

Sarasvati,namastubhyam,Varade,Kaama rupinee

Vidyaarambham karishyaami,Siddhir bhavatu mey sadaa.

We commence learning and we shall never desire to give up learning.

SARASVATI CONSCIOUSNESS AND ACADEMIC LIFE :

My academic accomplishments are not exceptional but the over all academic experience was great.I read several books on my own and derived much pleasure from reading.Through out my academic life,I had competed with my fellow students and had participated in essay writing competitions, elocution contests and debating events and won several prizes. When I was 11 years old,I won the first prize in an English essay writing competition held at the Danavaipeta Municipal High School,Rajahmundry, when the School conducted such a contest for the first time.At age 13, I had finished High School studies and by age 17,I had obtained an under graduate degree of Bachelor of Science(Botany,Zoology,Chemistry)from Osmania University,Hyderabad.I did well in both Part I and Part II of the B.Sc examination and had the satisfaction of getting the top position among students who took the same elective courses.I had completed my under graduate studies in Medicine at Kurnool Medical College in 1970 and on 26 th July 1970,I had reported for duty at ARMY MEDICAL CORPS CENTRE and OFFICERS TRAINING SCHOOL,Lucknow. The Commission to join the ranks of Indian Army was granted to me in 1969 when I was 21 years old.

Among the several prizes that I had won during my school years,I can rightfully speak about my success in one particular event. In 1965,when I was a freshman at Kurnool Medical College,The Department of English conducted an English essay writing competition that was open to all the College students. To encourage wider participation, the topic was announced in advance of the event. It was that of ‘ Family Planning ‘.The lecture hall, the venue of the event was filled up and the centre of attention was a final year M.B.B.S student who had already won the first prize at a National level competition for his essay on ‘ Family Planning ‘.The general consensus was that he would easily win this contest too.I arrived at the venue without any prior preparation. All other participants wrote about the importance of Family Planning, the methods and their ideas about implementing the programme. My essay was the only exception which did not delve upon those issues. As I sat down and was getting ready to write my opening statement,my mind was inspired by the creative spirit and had guided me to oppose the idea of Family Planning. After that,my thoughts came down pouring and I kept writing them down until the final minute of that contest. When the results were announced, the student community was astounded for my essay which opposed the idea of Family Planning won the first place for creative writing.

For the last 24 years I have been living in a Land where Shiva,Saraswathi and Ganesha are not relevant to most of the people in my community. However,I still cling on to my precious icons that made my human existence possible. My mind is not still. My desire for intellectual pursuit is active and alive.Knowledge is revealed to me in tiny bits of information.I learned that the human body is made up of trillions of cells.I learned that I have no ” CHOICE ” or ” AUTONOMY ” to impose my authority over my body. There is not even one single cell in my body whose functions I could directly regulate and govern according to my choice. This lack of ability to rule the cells of my body gives me a sense of fear.I exist but I am not governing my existence. The people of my Land of origin for thousands of years depended upon two letters, ” RA ” and ” MA “to complete their life’s journey.I am learning that those two letters could also help me and give me hope and a sense of direction and also keep me afloat while I cross the ocean.

In my pursuit of Pure Knowledge and Perfect Wisdom, I seek Creative inspiration of Lord Rama who guides my pursuit according to the Laws of Karma. I should not seek the fruits of my work, the Knowledge and Wisdom could only help to know the Reality and is not for material gain. I recognize that the two letters or syllables of "RA" and "MA" represent Pure Knowledge, and Perfect Wisdom.

THE SCIENCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS AND HUMAN EXISTENCE  :

I am fully determined to continue my pursuit of pure and perfect knowledge and as before, I have my icons to guide me. My understanding of the term ‘consciousness’ has changed. Human consciousness includes aspects of mental awareness, and rational thoughts. I understand the term consciousness not only in the context of a mental function but also that of awareness at a cellular level. Consciousness is a biological characteristic and this trait is exhibited by all living cells and all biological entities. Each individual cell is conscious or aware of its existence and its internal and external environment. This awareness or consciousness describes living entities as created entities. In Indian tradition, all living entities are aware and conscious of the Creator. This consciousness gives the living entity a biological ability to exist by exploiting energy from its external environment. This energy dependence could only be instituted by an Energy Controller. Man’s existence in nature is subject to this energy connection with an extraterrestrial source of energy.

A Mantra to illuminate Mind - Mind exists in a state of Ignorance or AVIDYA, a State of Darkness caused by the Power of Illusion called MAYA. Mind seeks to know the Reality using Rational Thought contributed by Acquired Knowledge. Reality can only be known by INNATE KNOWLEDGE, the Knowledge, the Awareness, the Consciousness that connects the Living Entity with Cosmic Enery/Force/Power, the Divine Entity. Because of Ignorance, the mind is not aware of the Cosmic Connection that establishes, sustains, and preserves Human Existence.

The symbolic expression of Ultimate Reality - Sound Energy is the physical manifestation of an Unmanifested Reality. The sound AUM or OM connects the Manifested Reality with the Unmanifest or Transcendental Reality.

GAYATRI MAHA MANTRA GIVES A FORMULA FOR SEEKING PURE KNOWLEDGE AND PERFECT WISDOM. SEEK ILLUMINATION FROM AN EXTERNAL REALITY TO DISPEL DARKNESS, TO BANISH IGNORANCE, TO UNCOVER HIDDEN INFORMATION. THE INTERNAL REALITY IS THE SAME AS THE UNMANIFESTED ULTIMATE REALITY. THIS IS SIMPLY KNOWN BY RECOGNIZING THE COSMIC CONNECTION BETWEEN BREATHING, AND LIVING HUMAN INDIVIDUAL AND ITS DEPENDENCE UPON COSMIC POWER/ENERGY.

Man acquires knowledge by sensory experience, internal reflection, and by rational thought. Such acquired knowledge is useful for man’s material existence in the world. Man has no rational ability or sensory experience to directly know the Ultimate Reality. However, man has innate knowledge whose existence is either hidden or ignored. At the time of conception, man begins his life journey by establishing an anatomical connection with a host without knowing the physical identity of that host. At the time of birth, man continues his life journey as an independent entity. He gains independence from his host but he is not truly energy independent. The newborn declares its connection with a Cosmic Source of Energy and Power by its cry. That simple act of crying announces the vital connection between man and his Energy Provider and Controller. The Journey in the external world after delivery from mother’s womb marks a big transition in the nature of Human Existence. The act of breathing begins, the breath of life assumes control of human existence and this connection is the sign of Divine Providence. The Knowledge of Internal Reality that is physically manifest in the Immanent Realm, and its identity with an External, Unmanifested Reality in Transcendental Realm could be obtained by simple awareness of the connections a Man has to make for his survival and existence in this world.

"TARANGINI" - THE WAVE THEORY OF IMMORTALITY IS MY PERSONAL TRIBUTE TO MY FATHER, SHRI.REBBAPRAGADA.SURYANARAYANA MURTHY.

TARANGINI - THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY

Ripples are undulating movements on the surface of water.

HOW CAN A MAN SURVIVE AFTER HIS DEATH  ?

This is not a discussion about “Afterlife” or “Hereafter”. This is not a discussion about death, resurrection and “Everlasting Life“. This is not a discussion about man’s historical legacy, his enduring fame after death, or about his perpetual existence in a Heavenly Mansion after his physical death. This is also not a discussion about transmigration or reincarnation of the human soul. The concept of immortality describes deathlessness or the idea of “Lasting forever”. In the material realm, everything that is born must die. The fleeting experience of human existence is often compared to the existence of an air bubble on the surface of a Lotus leaf. The material body cannot enter the immaterial realm. Only a “TARANG” or a Wave that is not attached to any physical or material entity, a Wave that is set free and remains in motion, could make the transition and journey into the immortal realm.

‘TARANG’ – ABOUT RIPPLES, WAVES, AND WAVE MOTION  :

Ripples are little waves or undulating movements on the surface of water when the surface is stirred or ruffled by a breeze. We can also cause ripples by dropping a pebble into standing or still waters. Ripple suggests movement and is the result of a disturbance in the prevailing calm. The word ‘wave’ also describes a ridge or swell moving along the surface of a liquid or body of water as a result of disturbance, as by wind. In Physics, a wave is defined as a periodic motion or disturbance consisting of a series of many oscillations that propagate through a medium or space, as in the propagation of sound or light. Hence waves should be understood not only as the result of a disturbance such as the motion of an object, but also as a change in an electric current, or an alteration of an electromagnetic field. The disturbance is transported from one point to another by a wave, but the medium through which it travels does not undergo a net displacement. Wave Mechanics is the branch of Physics that describes the motion of particles, as atoms, and elementary or fundamental particles, by wave motion. In Physics, waves are typically described in terms of their frequency or wave length; the distance measured in the direction of progression of a wave, from any given point to the next point characterized by the same phase. In colloquial usage, the term wave length is used to describe a way of thinking, understanding etc., The commonly used phrase of being ‘on the same wave length’ describes a state of mutual understanding or accord.

WHAT ARE ‘THOUGHT WAVES’  OR  ‘MENTAL WAVES’  ?

THE GENERATION OF THOUGHTS AND THE PROPAGATION OF THOUGHT
THE GENERATION OF THOUGHTS AND THE PROPAGATION OF THOUGHT

BRAIN AREAS - GENERATION OF THOUGHT - VOCALIZATION OF THOUGHT.
BRAIN AREAS - GENERATION OF THOUGHT - VOCALIZATION OF THOUGHT.

The word ‘idea’ describes something a person thinks, a thought, a mental conception or image. The word ‘concept’ refers to something conceived in the mind. But, ideas and concepts must be vocalized by the brain and otherwise, their existence would remain unknown. Brain has to generate thoughts and express them or communicate them in a manner that permits others to understand the contents of those thoughts. A brain at rest, calm or tranquil could be visualized like a pond of water which is still with no ripples and waves  seen. ‘Thought’ arrives like a disturbance and stirs up the resting brain. Thoughts arrive in waves and each represents movement of negatively charged ions or electrical activity and movement of electrical signals or nerve impulses between different areas of the brain. Just like in Wave Mechanics described in Physics, ‘thought waves’ have to move by wave motion, a series of electrical discharges before they find their physical expression.

THOUGHT IS A BRAIN’S CHILD  :

A thought that is conceived in the brain of a thinker could have an existence of its own. The thinker has to sever the connection between himself and his thought. A child is born, is set free to lead an independent and free existence when the cord that connects the mother and the child is severed. A ‘thought wave’ which is no longer attached to the thinker exists with an identity of its own.

“TARANGINI” – THE WAVE THEORY OF IMMORTALITY  :

The word ‘TARANG’ means a wave or motion which is the property of a wave. The word “TARANGINI” means a moving, flowing, or running stream or river. The act of flowing gives the water a life of its own. The stream or river is alive as long as the water is flowing. If the thoughts, ideas, and mental conceptions of a person are propagated to another person; and if such propagation of ‘thought waves’ continues from one generation to the next, the wave is said to be in motion and the quality of being alive is imparted to that ‘thought wave’. I would like to draw an analogy between the fluidity that manifests as a flowing stream and the fluidity of a mind that lets a ‘thought wave’ to propagate. The attribute called ‘life’ exists as long as the wave continues to move and is in motion. The propagation of ‘thought waves’ across generational lines describes my ‘Wave Theory of Immortality’. There are numerous human mental concepts, ideas, ‘thought waves’ or ‘mental waves’ that are ‘immortalized’ and these ‘waves’ are still in motion, flowing from one generation to the next. The human identity may not be known as the human person who had originally conceived the thought and has set it into motion did not attach his/her physical identity to that particular ‘thought wave’. These immortal ‘thought waves’ have originated in the minds of men who always exist in relation to their physical environment. An immortal thought exists in the context of a human personality in whom the mental ‘disturbance’ took birth and has continued to survive, and has continued to move, and is still flowing through the minds of others who got exposed to this ‘mental wave’. I choose to define the “Indian Identity” in terms of such immortal thoughts that took birth in the Land of India known as Bharat. Human minds have conceived the concepts of ‘SATYA'( Truth ), DHARMA ( Right Conduct ), AHIMSA ( Non-Violence), SHANTI ( Peace), PASHCHATH TAPA ( Repentance), PRAAYASH CHITTA ( Penance ), SHEELA ( Character ), PAAPA ( Wrong doing), PUNYA ( Good deeds),PUNAR JANMA ( Rebirth ), SAMSARA ( the cycle of Birth, Death, and Rebirth), Aatma ( Human Soul ), PARAMAATMA ( Divine Soul ), VIDHI ( Fate ), KARMA ( Action and its consequences), THIRATH STAAN ( Ritualistic River Worship ), PAADA SEVANAM ( Worship of Feet), KIRTANA ( Singing as an act of worship ), ARCHANA ( acts of ritualistic worship), SUNYATA ( Emptiness), and various others which establish a specific relationship between the man and the physical environment in which he exists. Immortality as an idea is entertained by people of different cultures. In each culture, the idea is expressed in a different context. In the Land of Bharat, the idea of immortality is not discussed in terms of physical death, resurrection and Everlasting Life after the process of ‘Resurrection’. Immortality is not about perpetual existence in a Heavenly Mansion. In the opinion of Indian thinkers, the mortal body cannot be transported to a Heavenly Abode. Immortality is not about eternal or enduring fame. The fame belongs to a physical entity and it remains in the physical realm in relationship with the physical environment. In the Indian Tradition, the fame of an individual is considered to be eternal or lasting forever if it survives as long as water flows down the River of Ganga or Ganges. Indian thinkers have connected the concept of Immortality is to an unchanging Reality described as SAT( TRUTH )+CHIT( KNOWLEDGE )+ANANDA( BLISS ). These immortal ‘thought waves’ have given us a group identity. We need to constantly remind ourselves that each mental concept has taken its birth in the mind of an individual and the immortal thought has moved away from the physical identity of that individual. These ‘thought waves’ or ‘mental waves’ would continue to flow across the Land of Bharat as long as water continues to flow in a River that is admiringly described as Ganga Maa or Mother Ganges. Indian Tradition has always visualized ‘thought waves’ as a running or flowing Stream or River. In the physical environment, a flowing or running Stream or River represents the perpetual hydrological cycle, the cycle involving the evaporation from the sea, precipitation such as snow and rain, and the return flow to the sea. In relative terms, humans lead a transient existence, and the rivers stream until eternity.
I would like to draw an analogy between the Fluidity that manifests as a Flowing Stream and the Fluidity of a Mind that lets a 'thought wave' to propagate.

SHANKARA  –  IS HE DEAD OR ALIVE  ?

Adi Shankaracharya has expressed his identity as that of SHIVA and that of SHIVA alone. He had excluded mind, intellect, ego, and conscience from his identity. His identity is not related to human knowledge, and the human brain that exists in this physical universe. He had excluded the sensory organs of hearing, taste, smell, and vision from his identity. His identity is not related to the human knowledge that is derived from sensory organs, or sense perceptions. He had excluded Sky( Ether ), Earth, Fire, and Air from his identity. His identity goes beyond the limits of the physical universe and his identity transcends the ‘Immanent’ Realm. However, he has not excluded his ‘thought wave’ from the description of his identity. His ‘thought wave’ is the bearer of his identity. His thought, the mental wave or ‘TARANG’ identifies itself as a True Knowledge of Bliss which is personified and identifed as ‘SHIVA’. This ‘thought wave’ that is set into motion is still flowing and this “TARANGINI” is still alive and it describes the quality of Immortality. Shankara is alive as long as the mental concept of “SHIVO AHAM” continues to create mental vibrations and causes electrical discharges in the nerve cells of human brains and these invisible oscillations gain physical expression and is vocalized as the thought to describe the identity of the individual as “I AM SHIVA”, and “I AM SHIVA” and this alone is my ‘TRUE IDENTITY’. Next time, when you look at a Running or Flowing Stream or River, let that ‘TARANGINI’ connect you ‘The Wave Theory of Immortality’.

River Ganga meandering through the Shivalik ranges near Rishikesh symbolizes my WAVE THEORY OF IMMORTALITY. Man always exists in constant relationship with his physical environment. Immortality is not about perpetual residence in a Heavenly Mansion. Immortality is associated with the idea of Ultimate Reality which is represented by SAT+CHIT+ANANDA. In this physical world, the Indian Identity is immortalized by the flowing River adoringly described as Mother Ganges.

A ‘thought wave’ which took its birth in a human mind begins an existence of its own and when the thought is expressed or vocalized it begins a journey of its own. The mortal human body just belongs to the physical realm. A ‘thought wave’ or TARANG that contains the True Knowledge of Blissful existence travels beyond the limits of materialistic realm and enters the transcendental realm. Its identity with a person described as Shiva makes it deathless or immortal.

WHOLE DUDE – WHOLE HUMILITY

Sri Vakra tunda mahaa kaaya, koti Surya sama prabha
Nirvighnam Kuru me Deva subha karyeshu sarvada.

Lord Ganesha is unique amongst all deities. He has a human form with the head of an asian elephant. Like the elephant which can grasp objects with its trunk, the entire realm of knowledge is in His grasp. In brilliance, He outshines Sun(Surya) and His radiant appearance can illuminate the entire universe. His body is so huge, it can accommodate the entire creation. He is worshiped to remove obstacles. He removes obstacles when we contemplate actions that promote our well-being and brings us the good will of others and the actions should have no evil design or purpose. Lord Ganesha removes obstacles and paves the way for accomplishment and success in human endeavors. The notion that success is the result of divine
sanction rather than being entirely due to personal effort, would let us reach
our goals with a sense of modesty and humility. The primary goals for man have been described as Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. Dharma(right conduct)is not only a goal but also is the way.The other three goals should only be reached following the way of Dharma. To prepare for the journey on the path of Dharma, the traveler finds direction from a sense of humility. The radiant and immense personality of Ganesha endows us with humility. Having reached the goals of Artha(personal wealth ,social status and position), and Kama(fulfilment of desires, progeny and family), we inevitably encounter with the consequences of the powerful effects of time. The following verse from ‘ Bhaja Govindam’ sets us on a mission to seek the fourth goal of human existence.

Maa kuru dhana jana yauvvana garvam, Harati nimeshaa tkaala sarvam
Maya mida makhilam hitvaa,
Brahma padam tvam bravisa viditvaa.

The fear that time would dissolve every thing we possess would help us to overcome arrogance that may be associated with acquiring wealth, family and being youthful in age. Sooner or later, we set our sights for the fourth goal and it will not be very easy to visualize the final destination. To achieve Moksha or Mukti, to reach the shore of liberation and conclude the journey across the ocean of Samsara, a person endowed with humility would be able to say the following prayer and get the needed help. Human existence is permanently bound to illusionary sensory experience of Sunrise and Sunset. Sun shines with all His radiance all the time. The living entities exist in an illusionary state which helps them to mark their existence by the alternating periods of light and darkness. We do not have the biological ability to detect the spin of the Earth and we have synchronized our existence with Sunrise and Sunset and this biological rhythm, known as Solar Rhythm, Circadian Rhythm, or Diurnal Rhythm, manages several of our biological functions. It is not easy to comprehend the Ultimate Reality when the existence is synchronized with an illusion. Time’s Power of Dissolution would eventually compel us to investigate and to explore the concept of Absolute and Unchanging Reality. A prayer to Lord Ganesha would endow us with humility that we need to achieve the four primary goals and gives us success in life.

MENTORSHIP  :

Bammera Potana, the well-known Telugu poet while translating the epic poem of Bhagavatam from Sanskrit language into Telugu had stated that he would narrate the story of Bhagavatam using imagination and inspiration entirely provided by Lord Rama:

“Palikedithe Bhaagavata ma ta, Palikinchu Vibhundu Ramabhadrun da ta, ne

Balikina bhava hara magu na ta, Palikeda verundu gadha balukaga nela?”

I would like to narrate my story, describe my ideas, and share my thoughts drawing inspiration from Lord Rama and it would be my endeavor to destroy the state of conditioned existence called ‘Bhava’, and get over the fear of ‘Samsara’, a journey of the embodied soul across uncharted sea which constantly evokes a sense of fear of the unknown.
LORD RAMA, THE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR CREATIVE WRITING.
Maharishi Valmiki, Adi Kavi, had no formal education. He was totally inspired to narrate the Story of Lord Rama called RAMAYANA. Telugu Poet Bammera Potana who also had no formal education translated the epic poem known as Bhagavatam from Sanskrit into Telugu and displayed his immense powers of Creativity. He had not only dedicated his work to Lord Rama but also acknowledged that every word that he had used was inspired by Lord Rama. For my humble endeavor, I seek the same inspiration.
